U.S. forces took part in a pre-dawn raid in northwestern Syria early on Wednesday that targeted a member of the Islamic State group, a U.S. official and a Syrian security source said. Abdelqader al-Sheikh, a neighbour, said he was up late with his son and heard a noise in the yard next door. "I called out, 'who are you?' and they started speaking to me in English, telling me to put my hands up," Sheikh told Reuters. He said the armed forces stayed on the roofs of surrounding houses for the next two hours and that he could hear someone nearby speaking Arabic in an Iraqi accent. In July, the Pentagon said its forces had conducted a raid in Aleppo province resulting in the death of a senior Islamic State leader and his two adult Islamic State-affiliated sons. Idlib has been a hiding spot for senior Islamic State figures for years. U.S. forces killed IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in the village of Barisha in Idlib province in 2019 and his successor, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashemi al-Quraishi, in Atmeh in 2022.

Large-scale fighting between Hamas and Israeli soldiers in Khan Younis
Israeli media on Wedneday reported large-scale fighting between Hamas's armed wing, the al-Qassem Brigades, and Israeli soldiers in Gaza on Wednesday. According to Israeli media, an Israeli army camp in Khan Younis came under heavy attack from Hamas fighters in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip. The Israeli military said at least 18 Hamas fighters were involved in the attack and that three Israeli soldiers were wounded, one of them seriously. Bahrain: Concession deal signed to boost energy strategy
Bahrain - His Majesty's representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Bapco Energies chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa witnessed the signing of a strategic energy concession agreement between the Oil and Environment Ministry and Bapco Energies – the integrated energy group leading the transformation of Bahrain's energy sector – with EOG Resources Bahrain Awali, a subsidiary of US company EOG Resources specialised in crude oil and natural gas exploration. The signing ceremony was attended by Oil and Environment Minister and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs Dr Mohammed Bin Daina; Bapco Energies Group CEO Mark Thomas; a delegation from EOG Resources led by Joseph Korenek, EOG Resources International president; and a number of officials from both sides. Shaikh Nasser affirmed that the signing of this agreement represents an important step in implementing the National Energy Strategy, noting that its provisions will combine Bapco Energies' national vision with the global expertise of EOG Resources, paving the way for new opportunities in oil and gas exploration, contributing to comprehensive national development, and supporting long-term energy security.
