Cops tracking down eight to help in police probes

SANDAKAN: Police are currently tracking down several individuals identified to assist in investigations related to a number of criminal cases in the district. Acting Sandakan District Police Chief, Supt Ramasamy a/l Kuppan, said members of the public who know or have any information about the individuals involved are urged to contact the Sandakan District Control Centre at 089-212222 or go to the nearest police station to provide information.
Advertisement Among those being sought is Yee Kok Wai (MyKad: 621219-12-5433) for an offence under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape; Mohammad Azwan Mukram (MyKad: 960814-12-6277) under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017; and Hisyam Tarang (MyKad: 820304-12-6061) under Section 354 of the Penal Code for using criminal force with intent to outrage modesty. Police are also searching for Mohd Nazrie Mohd Sha (MyKad: 770914-12-5581) for voluntarily causing hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code, and Firdawis Daud (MyKad: 860401-12-5489) under Section 46(N) of the Prisons Act 1995. Also wanted is a 31-year-old Indonesian woman, Safawati Taming (Passport No: C3822626), for theft under Section 380 of the Penal Code. In addition, Mohd Dussin Ahmad (MyKad: 900828-12-5529) is wanted under Section 15(4) of the Road Transport Act 1959, and Mohd Nursyahfiq Homir Sari (MyKad: 990815-12-5193) under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft.

Three killed in Russian attack on Ukraine's Kharkiv; Ukrainian drones injure two near Moscow
LONDON: Overnight missile and bomb strikes by Russia on the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv left three people dead and 22 hurt, while a Ukrainian drone attack in the Moscow region wounded two people, officials from both countries said separately on Saturday. 'Kharkiv is currently experiencing the most powerful attack since the start of the full-scale war,' Mayor Ihor Terekhov said in a post on Telegram earlier on Saturday. Residential buildings, educational and infrastructure facilities were attacked, he said, and photos showed buildings burnt and reduced partially to rubble, as rescuers carried the wounded away for treatment. Kharkiv regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov said there could still be people buried under the rubble after one civilian industrial facility was hit by 40 drones and several bombs. In the Moscow region, two people were injured after a drone attack by Ukraine overnight and on Friday, Governor Andrei Vorobyov said on Telegram, with nine drones shot down. Russia's aviation watchdog said operations had resumed at the Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo and Zhukovsky airports in the Moscow region after being suspended temporarily for flight safety reasons. The Defence Ministry said that since midnight, air defence units had intercepted and destroyed 36 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory, including the Moscow region. Ukraine's air forces also shot down a Russian Su-35 fighter jet on Saturday morning, its military said without providing further details. Russian forces have not yet commented on the matter while Reuters could not independently verify the report. A Ukrainian drone attack deep inside Russian territory last weekend likely damaged around 10% of Russia's strategic bomber fleet and hit some of the aircraft as they were being prepared for strikes on Ukraine, a senior German military official said in a YouTube podcast set for broadcast later on Saturday.

Klang boat incident: Victims believed not wearing life jackets
KLANG: All victims involved in the capsized boat incident in the waters off Tanjung Harapan here yesterday were believed not to be wearing life jackets. North Klang District Police chief ACP S Vijaya Rao said initial investigations also revealed that the boat, which was being test-driven, was operated by its owner at the time. He said the absence of life jackets had made the search and rescue (SAR) operation for the remaining two missing victims among the six people on board more difficult. 'Those who engage in activities at sea must wear life jackets, which are very useful during emergencies like this capsized boat incident, in addition to having swimming skills,' he said at a press conference at the search site in Tanjung Harapan today. Vijaya said the location where the boat capsized had been identified, but strong currents may have swept the two missing victims away and caused them to drown. Meanwhile, he said police had recorded statements from three individuals, including one survivor. 'The actual cause of the incident has yet to be determined, and the case is being investigated under Section 280 of the Penal Code,' he said. In the incident at about 5 pm, three individuals including a child died, one survived (Alvin Chang Yan Qin, 17), while a married couple remains missing. The deceased victims were Darren Gan, 3; Cheu Son Hin, 50; and Fong Yong Sen, 29, while those still missing have been identified as Gan Hon Tat, 32, and his wife Careen Man, 29, both from Klang Utama.
