North Wales teen left fighting for life in Greece after contracting meningitis

A teenager from North Wales was left fighting for her life after being struck down with meningitis on holiday in Greece. Millie Bayles, 19, from Garth, Llangollen, jetted out to the holiday island of Rhodes with her friends.
She noticed the symptoms of what she initially thought was an ear infection. But her condition deteriorated rapidly.
She was later diagnosed with bacterial meningitis and moved 300 miles from the island to intensive care in Athens Hospital, where she has been for three weeks. Her family flew out to be by her side.
She is out of immediate danger but she has a long road to recovery ahead of her. Millie had no travel insurance and mum Lauren Murphy set up a fundraiser in an attempt to bring her home.
It is hoped she will be able to come home shortly after more than £44,000 was raised in an incredible effort. Sign up for the North Wales Live newsletter sent twice daily to your inbox
Mum Lauren and step-dad Pete Murphy said: "I just wanted to say thank you to each and every one of you who has donated to, or shared this fundraiser.
"We have not only exceeded our target of £40,000, but we did it in just 24 hours! Thanks to you we can bring our girl back home and we are so incredibly grateful.
"I will leave it open for now because we will no doubt have ongoing medical costs but we are now covered for what we needed most and for that we thank you all again, from the bottom of our hearts." You can donate to the fundraiser here.

Woman left 'fuming' after walking to Yr Wyddfa summit and finding others took the train

A woman who trekked to the summit of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) was astonished to learn she could have taken a train instead. Hettie, known on TikTok as Hettie's Holidays, shared her amusing tale online, causing quite a stir among viewers with her humorous revelation. She couldn't believe that while she had hiked up, others enjoyed a relaxed train journey to the top. Her video quickly became a sensation, racking up over 100,000 likes and proving that a good blunder is always good for a laugh. In her viral clip, she said: "Do you know what's a p*** take when you get to the top of Snowdon? People who have got the train. Firstly, why the hell would you want to get the train to the top of Snowdon? "What is the point? Does that not defeat the whole object? Unless you need to get the train for any specific reason, if you've just done it to come to the top, nah.", reports Wales Online. The TikToker seemed frustrated by the lack of space for her to rest her weary feet. She added: "People are sat up here having a gourmet lunch dressed in Converse, dresses, blouses - sat having like a birthday family lunch, and people have hiked and walked. We're aching, we're freezing and people are just not even offering seats." While Hettie clarified she wasn't demanding they offer their seats, she questioned why one would choose to visit the area just for lunch. She pointed out there's only "one little restaurant" and diners end up surrounded by people who are "really cold". Sign up for the North Wales Live newsletter sent twice daily to your inbox She was left perplexed as people appeared to bring their "newborn babies" for baby showers at the location. She concluded her video with a simple statement alongside her friend: "Nah, that's not good with us." The video has since sparked a flurry of comments from thousands of viewers, who seem divided on the issue. While some sympathised with Hettie's perspective, others pointed out that climbing is entirely optional. One individual commented: "This reminds me of the time I scaled the Eiffel Tower, and everyone in the lift didn't let me sit down when I got to the top." Another echoed her sentiments, writing: "So with you. Remember when I climbed to the top of the Shard, and everyone got the lift, sat there drinking, enjoying the views. Abseiled back down ASAP." However, not everyone was supportive. A third person responded: "The thing about climbing Snowdon is that it's completely optional. Hope this helps." A fourth added: "You're making it sound like you've done a difficult climb. I've seen eight-year-olds go up Snowdon."
