Xzibit reveals $1,000,000 reason he rejected Pimp My Ride return
'Pimp My Ride changed my life,' rapper Xzibit told Metro (Picture: MTV Networks)
To hip hop fans, Xzibit is the LA rap titan who made a name for himself during the late 90s and early 2000s, delivering multiple hits and sharing stages with icons such as Dr Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent.
But for a generation beyond the beats, he's best known as the larger-than-life host who brought vehicular makeovers to the masses on MTV's Pimp My Ride.
It's been 18 years since the final episode of the US show aired, which captivated audiences for six seasons and inspired a global franchise, including a UK version hosted by Tim Westwood.
Yet, despite a wave of imitators and reboot attempts, nothing has managed to recapture the magic of the original series.
As he gears up for the release of Kingmaker, his first solo album in over a decade, Xzibit talked to Metro about his experience on Pimp My Ride, discussing the factors that led to the show's end, his personal choice to move on, and revealing his stance on potentially returning as host should the series be officially revived.
'Pimp My Ride changed my life,' he said, sitting in the lounge area of his SoCal recording studio. 'It turned me into a global brand. I had soccer moms coming up to me pinching my cheeks and telling me how much they love me.'

But after the taping of the show's final episode, which saw Xzibit and the Galpin Auto Sports team transform a Cadillac Fleetwood Hearse, the relationship between the rapper (real name Alvin Joiner) and the show's executives began to fray.
'You really want the truth about why Pimp My Ride only lasted six seasons?' Xzibit asked, prefacing his answer with the caution that 'some people don't want their childhood ruined'.
'It ended because my contract was up and I didn't want to renew it,' he explained.
'I was on my way out the door at 20th Century Fox after filming the last episode, and it was like, 'Yo, all good things must come to an end.' I'm good. I'm very good. I'm shaking hands and I'm like, 'Okay guys, contract's up, I don't want to renew. I'm out.''
As Xzibit was saying goodbye to Pimp My Ride and 20th Century Fox, he was simultaneously getting ready for an overseas tour.
On top of that, he'd just wrapped up filming The X-Files: I Want to Believe, where he played Special Agent Mosley Drummy alongside David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.
Would you like to see Xzibit return to host Pimp My Ride? Yes
No

'So, I'm at 20th Century Fox. I'm on my way overseas. I just got done with the film, and I get a call. 'Hey, the guys from advertising want to come down and say hello to you before you take off.'
'Okay, cool. I come downstairs. 'Hey X, man, so happy that you agreed to do this last episode for us. I know you are on your way out the country.''
Confused, Xzibit enquired about the episode. The brand partnerships team had apparently secured a Fantastic Four collaboration for Pimp My Ride, a deal the Paparazzi rapper knew nothing about.
'I was like, 'I'm on my way to Europe. I ain't filming no f***ing Fantastic Four episode,'' Xzibit said that he told the ad guys.
Determined to leave for his overseas trip, Xzibit made a swift exit and got into his car. Not long after, the show's executives called him.

'I get a call, and they're like, 'Hey, listen, we know you're on your way out the country but we got one more thing to shoot before you take off. It's this Fantastic Four episode.' 'Yeah, I just heard about it,'' Xzibit told them.
The executives offered to fly the Multiply rapper back and forth to Europe on a private jet to do the episode, as well as double his fee.
Little did they know, however, that the ad team had told him exactly how much the network was being paid for the collaboration.
'I had just heard the f***ing number,' he recalled. 'I said, 'Hey, okay, give me a million dollars. I'll do it.' They're like, 'Oh, Xzibit. You know that's not in the budget, we don't have it.''
Unhappy with their response and perceived unfair treatment, he declined the offer and walked out on the show indefinitely, which is why the episode in question ended up being hosted by Houston rapper Chamillionaire.

'Chamillionaire did that episode because apparently any n***a with braids could do what Xzibit does,' he jokes.
Asked whether he would come back and host a reboot if it was brought to him, Xzibit is adamant the answer would be no.
'I know that it will never be what it's supposed to be,' he explained.
'And really, ownership is what's attractive. Let's sit at the table together, not underneath it. Don't sit me underneath the table. Let me sit at the table with you.'
Thankful for what the show did for his career, he concluded: 'They've tried to remake that show over and over and over again and I'm glad it represented what it represented.
'And I'm super grateful it did what it did for my career.'
Xzibit's new album Kingmaker is out May 16 via Greenback Records

John questioned by police on Nate's murder in Emmerdale
In the wake of the discovery of Nate Robinson's (Jurell Carter) untimely Emmerdale death, accusations are flying, but it's John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) who is sweating. Murderous John seemed to be high and dry after the dredging of the lake was called off, and with Aidan slipping back into his coma – the other person who could blow his cover – he smugly returned to the village to resume the new life he'd created for himself. But reality came back to bite him on the bum when they dredged the lake anyway and Nate's body was finally found. It's badly decomposed so it'll be harder for the police to gather much if any DNA, but there will be a thorough investigation regardless and John is not in the clear. Then his worst living nightmare comes true – the police show up to question him about the day Nate disappeared. Having got away with things for this long he plays it cool. But as it turns out, it's not him they're after – it's Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley). Now this does not a happy Cain make, and though the finger isn't pointing at John, John still needs to work hard to protect Cain from going down for a crime he didn't commit – especially in the wake of Tracy Shankley's (Amy Walsh) accusation towards him. Tracy later walks passed and Sam Dingle (James Hooton) can't resist giving her what for. Cain is left shaken and puts voice to a dark thought that he believes Tracy did away with her ex. Finger firmly pointed, Tracy feebly tries to defend herself, but John concocts a dreadful plan to take the heat off Cain. The police soon arrive at Tug Ghyll with a search warrant and make a massive discovery – Nate's phone in Frankie's playhouse. Now the fear sets in for Tracy as she realises how bad things are starting to look – just wait until they find out she's been using his credit card too. But before they even get that far, they learn there is no record of the removal men who came to collect Nate's stuff – the ones that Tracy was the only one to interact with. Doctor Who icon favourite to play Lucius in controversial Harry Potter show
The Muggle world has been set alight with rumours and fan favourite picks for who could play who in the upcoming TV adaptation of Harry Potter. HBO has already selected three young actors from the sorting hat to play Harry, Hermione and Ron, with Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout now on the precipice of international fame. They will be joined in the wizarding world by John Lithgow as headmaster Albus Dumbledore, I May Destroy You star Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Nick Frost as Hagrid. The casting news has been met with a mixed reception, given how contentious JK Rowling has become in recent years amid her anti-trans views. A number of actors have ruled themselves out entirely. There are still several key players from Hogwarts who have yet to be cast – with the cruel Lucius Malfoy among them. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we'll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. The current favourite to sport the straightened blonde wig and do terrible things to Dobby is none other than the Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith. Senior TV Reporter Rebecca Cook shares her take… It's obvious where the thought behind this came from. Take one look at Matt Smith in House of the Dragon and you'll think 'Now who does this hair remind me of…?' Between that and his fiery yellow mohawk in Darren Aronofsky's new film, Smith has proven he's willing to put the hair transformation work in to get the results on screen. But would he be any good as the Death Eater? His wolfish part in House of the Dragon would suggest he could – but it's hard to argue with some of the other (perhaps better) names in play here. Tom Felton would be a wink and a nod to the original films (if he would want to return) while a gender flipped Lucius with Streep would provide a fresh dimension to the Draco relationship. Although, given that the Thrones spin-off is another HBO title, casting Smith would certainly save the props department a wig-sourcing job. The 42-year-old is currently top of a bookmaker's list of favourites to take on the character from Jason Isaacs' portrayal in the films, sitting with 6/4 odds. However, he's closely followed by Potter alum Tom Felton, who played Lucius's similarly peroxide blonde son Draco, and has 13/8 odds to reprise a Malfoy role in the TV show, according to Unlike his co-stars from the original films, Felton has not completely disavowed JK Rowling over her anti-trans views. Instead, he acknowledged the author was responsible for the franchise while also saying he is 'pro-human rights across the board' in an interview with The Independent. The next person in the list might have something of an edge, because not only do they have Isaacs' approval, but several Oscars on at home to boot. Isaacs said the Death Eater should be played by Meryl Streep, telling Variety: 'She can do anything, that woman. There's literally no limit to what she can do.' Who would make the best Lucius Malfoy? Plus, we know Streep has a villainous role in her arsenal after her terrifying turn as Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada, with 2/1 odds for the role. More Trending Isaacs was also asked if he had any advice for whoever is next to take on the role and questioned whether he needs to bother offering pearls of wisdom. 'I know some of the people they're casting already,' he said. 'They're brilliant actors. It's going to be fantastic, and the last thing they need is advice from some old fart like me.' There's every possibility Lucius won't be cast anytime soon, as the character doesn't appear in the first film. Although given that the TV show plans to be a more detailed adaptation, Lucius might be bumped up a season. View More » The Harry Potter TV show will air in 2026. Got a story? EastEnders exit as popular character makes unexpected departure
Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) has made an unexpected temporary EastEnders exit. The character truly has seen it all in the 40 years since he first appeared on our screens as a fresh-faced teenager, so it's no wonder that he's decided to take a break. In the last six months he's discovered his ex-wife Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) was cheating on him, and that his mother Kathy (Gillian Taylforth) attacked her with a snow shovel. With the revelation out in the open, Cindy then shot him, before pushing him in front of a car that ignited an explosion at The Queen Vic. In the aftermath she threatened to reveal her assault to the police – unless the Beales handed over their businesses. Kathy eventually caved and signed over The Prince Albert bar, unaware of the next big bombshell that was awaiting. Cindy had witnessed Kath's affair with Harvey Monroe (Ross Boatman), and after grabbing the keys to the boozer, exposed the dalliance to all of their neighbours. Ian couldn't believe what his mother had been up to, and now has Harvey living under his roof. If the family drama wasn't bad enough, son Peter (Thomas Law) has struggled to bond with his newborn Jimmy after the youngster was diagnosed with a visual impairment. In tonight's episode, he felt uncomfortable hearing Penny Branning (Kitty Castledine) talk so positively about his son's condition. His fiancée Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) noticed how he was reluctant to hold the baby, and staged an intervention with Cindy and Kathy. It was during the difficult conversation that Ian's absence was addressed. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Who's leaving Coronation Street?
