East Elementary named one of eight Missouri Gold Star Schools
OZARK, Mo. — The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has announced eight Missouri Gold Star Schools for 2025.
East Elementary in the Ozark School District has been named one of the eight Gold Star schools.
The other seven schools announced were:
Collegiate School of Medicine and Bioscience, St. Louis Public Schools
Conway Elementary, Ladue School District
Eugene Field Elementary, Poplar Bluff School District
Green Forest Elementary, Green Forest R-II School District
James Walker, Blue Springs School District
Marion County Elementary, Marion County R-II Schools
Steam Academy Middle School, Ferguson-Florissant School District
The program, which aligns with the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, recognizes schools for outstanding academic achievement or for performing at high levels while serving a significant proportion of disadvantaged students.
The U.S. Department of Education's Blue Ribbon Schools will be announced this fall.

Columbia failed to meet accreditation standards, US government says
By Jasper Ward WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. Department of Education said on Wednesday it has notified a university accreditation body that Columbia University had violated federal anti-discrimination laws by its alleged failure to protect Jewish students on its campus. The violation means that Columbia has not met the standards of accreditation set by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, the department said. "Accreditors have an enormous public responsibility as gatekeepers of federal student aid. They determine which institutions are eligible for federal student loans and Pell Grants," U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon said in a statement. The university did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Columbia has been the epicenter of a pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel student protest movement that roiled U.S. campuses over the last year and a half as Israel's war in Gaza raged. The Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services said last month that an investigation found that the university had acted with "deliberate indifference" towards the harassment of Jewish students during campus protests.

CONNECTICUT (WTNH) — Westport School District's Staples High School was determined the best public high school in the state for 2025, according to an annual analysis from Niche. It's not the first time the school as earned this title from Niche.
