‘Stranger Things' creators may be leaving Netflix

Netflix could soon lose the creative team behind one of its biggest hits. Earlier this week, Variety and other Hollywood publications reported that Matt and Ross Duffer, the brothers who created 'Stranger Things' (and wrote and directed many episodes), were in talks to sign an exclusive deal with Paramount (now under the ownership of David Ellison's Skydance). Then on Friday evening, Puck's Matthew Belloni posted that the Duffers had in fact 'made their choice' and were going to Paramount. The Duffer Brothers' ambition seems to have increased with each season of 'Stranger Things,' as episodes have grown longer, set pieces have become more spectacular, and the budget has grown accordingly, with a reported Season 4 cost of $30 million per episode. So it's not surprising that the Duffers are interested in making big-budget, tentpole movies next — an area where Netflix has struggled, in part due to its thorny relationship with the theatrical business, which co-CEO Ted Sarandos recently described as an 'outdated concept.' While Netflix does release some movies in theaters, it has resisted giving those releases a significant exclusive window before launching on streaming, which means Netflix movies usually aren't shown by the major chains. This was, apparently, a sticking point for 'Barbie' director Greta Gerwig, so the first of her 'Narnia' movies for Netflix will play exclusively on Imax screens for two weeks (or more) before going to streaming on Christmas Day 2026. And it seems this was also important to the Duffers, with Belloni reporting that the 'theatrical component' turned out to be the 'dealbreaker' in their negotiations. The brothers' absence will not be immediately noticeable on Netflix, which will be releasing the final season of 'Stranger Things' in three (!) parts later this year, and where the Duffers have two new shows scheduled to launch in 2026. Plus, the 'Stranger Things' empire is growing, with a prequel playing on Broadway, an animated series coming soon, and a live action spinoff reportedly in the works.

Kumail Nanjiani recalls meeting Elon Musk while shooting 'Silicon Valley':' ''He didn't like the show'

Kumail Nanjiani said that Elon Musk was "upset" with the opening scene of Silicon Valley. Nanjiani appeared on an episode of Mike Birbiglia's podcast Working It Out, where he recalled some of the experiences he had with tech giants while on the show. "He didn't like the show," Nanjiani said of Musk. The Eternals actor remembered meeting the Tesla CEO, who said the parties he attended were "much cooler" than those depicted on Silicon Valley. The premiere opens with Kid Rock playing at a tech event to a sparse, dead crowd. "It was like, 'Yeah, man. You're one of the richest people in the world. We're, like, losers on the show. Of course your parties are better than my parties. What are you talking about?'" the Big Sick star said. The comedian also met Mark Zuckerberg while doing the show, but made a bad impression. He and his costar Martin Starr had presented at the Breakthrough Awards, which were co-founded by Zuckerberg, in 2016. During the ceremony, the Silicon Valley actors called back to a joke from the season 1 finale about giving hand jobs to an entire conference room of people. They retooled that bit to accommodate the number of scientists at the Breakthrough Awards and bombed. Nanjiani said he doesn't blame the Facebook founder for disliking him after that moment. "He was like, 'What the f--- was that?'" Nanjiani said. "And truly in that moment he was right." Check out the full episode of Working It Out with Kumail Nanjiani below. Mila Kunis Says She Barely Ate While Preparing For "Black Swan"

This post discusses restrictive eating. Mila Kunis is opening up about the extreme efforts she took to prepare for 2010's Black Swan. Related: Mila notably played Natalie Portman's ballerina rival Lily, and in a new interview with Vogue to celebrate the film's release 15 years ago, she opened up about her grueling routine to achieve the skinny physique required to play her. Mila said, "My prep was a lot of dancing and very little eating — which I know you're not supposed to say, but it's the truth. I drank a lot of broth and danced for 12 hours a day." Related: The actor, who stands 5'4," previously revealed that she got down to just 95 pounds so she would "look skinny" enough to convincingly play a ballerina. "Because I'm not a ballerina, I have to get on point within three months, and so to get on point, you almost have to fake it," she told Howard Stern in 2016. "So, the best way to fake it is to unfortunately look like it." "I smoked a lot of cigarettes and I ate a limited amount of calories," Mila added, specifying that she survived on an average of 1,200 calories a day. She told Howard that she had since stopped smoking, and although she insisted she lost the weight "in the healthiest way possible," she said she wouldn't recommend her regimen to anyone. "I don't advocate this at all," she stated. "It was awful." Related: In the Vogue interview, Mila also opened up about other challenges while filming, including the physical toll that dancing eventually took on her body. She said, "We would shoot those dancing scenes for hours, and I had bruises all over my ribs just from being lifted over and over again. I also dislocated my shoulder pretty early in the production and thought I was completely screwed, but [director] Darren [Aronofsky] sent me to an acupuncturist and I somehow came out totally fine." Related: According to her, Natalie also suffered an injury on set while shooting the scene of Lily being pushed into a mirror. Natalie told Vogue she "completely blacked that out" and did not have "a hint of a memory" of it, but Mila recalled, "You were scarred up all around your neck."
