UFC 316 makes two new fights official days prior to event
UFC 316 is days away and the lineup is still being tinkered with.
After independent reports in recent days, the promotion made official two new fights for Saturday's card at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

Khaos Williams, who needed an opponent after withdrawals from Uros Medic and Albert Tadevosyan. He will now fight Andreas Gustafsson, who was expected to fight this past Saturday, but who had his bout canceled when opponent Trevin Giles fell and hit his head on weigh-ins day. Front Kick Online first reported the bout.
Williams (15-4 MMA, 6-3 UFC) and Gustafsson (11-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) are bout strike-heavy fighters, which could make for an appealing matchup for violence seekers. Williams aims to bounce back from a submission loss to Gabriel Bonfim. Gustafsson looks to make the most out of his UFC debut after an impressive TKO win over Pat Pytlik on Dana White's Contender Series. Eurosport NL first reported the bout.
Additionally, a lightweight bout between promotional newcomer Mark Choinski and MarQuel Mederos has been added to the card. Choinski (8-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) enters the promotion as the Anthony Pettis FC lightweight champion. Factory X's Mederos (10-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) aims to maintain his perfect career record after consecutive UFC victories over Landon Quinones and Austin Hubbard.

He praised him for taking on all comers and taking the long road to the top. "Why does the whole world treat him like crap? What did Belal ever do to anybody," Sonnen told The Schmo. "Half of the UFC, it's divided in the first floor and second floor. The guys on the second floor don't like him; the guys on the first floor do like him. I don't understand this. All Belal has ever done is fight the hardest guys, ask for opportunities and keep his mouth shut when it doesn't go his way. "He walks out there in an undercard against Sean Brady, who by the way nobody else has ever, prior or since, even come close to beating. They don't ever give him his credit. The best thing he's done, which was about two weeks after his fight, he called for his next fight which by the way had he won, is what he would have done days ago." Sonnen also liked the way Muhammad handled his loss, and his determination to get his belt back. "There's a time in life where if you ever want to become a gentlemen you have to learn how to lose," Sonnen added. "You have to learn that if things don't go your way, you get back on that horse. That's a great example that Belal set for everybody and it's yet another thing that he won't get credit for, but he deserves it."

'His toughness, his love for the game, the skill set that we've seen on tape, the skill set that his coaches at Georgia explained that he had in his body, a lot of the boxes have checked so far.' There are lofty expectations for first round picks, but they might be even higher for Williams, who is joining a defensive line room that saw multiple departures during free agency. While Kocurek was nothing but positive in his description of the Georgia product, he made sure to temper his comments just a bit. 'Now, we are out there in a geared down setting in OTA football right now,' Kocurek said. 'You won't truly get the true assessment until we get the pads on in August and really start going at this at the level that kind of correlates more to Sundays.' The 49ers have a few more on-field practices before the group breaks for summer, and all eyes have been on Williams to help reinvigorate a pass rush that saw a challenging 2024 season. The 49ers also signed Leonard Floyd last season, who was second in quarterback sacks only to Bosa during his one season with the team. The long-time veteran quickly was signed by the Atlanta Falcons.
