A man in his 20s, understood to be another apprentice jockey, required hospital treatment with what police described as 'serious facial injuries', though no arrests were made at that point in time. Suffolk Police said in statement sent to the Sun on August 7: "Police were called 5.07pm on 4 August to reports a man aged in their 20s had been assaulted the previous night in Exning near Newmarket and had attended hospital with serious facial injuries. "Police investigating. Currently no arrests. Anyone with any information is asked to contact police quoting crime reference 37/43761/25." On Thursday, police issued a second statement which said: 'A 21-year-old man was arrested on 18 August on suspicion of assault (GBH). He was subsequently bailed to return to police on 18 November. The investigation continues.' Police policy is neither to confirm nor deny the identity of any individual before the point at which a charge is issued. The Crown Prosecution Service defines GBH as "really serious harm. The harm does not have to be either permanent or dangerous" and, if found guilty, perpetrators can face jail sentences.

Scots mum tells murder trial how son said ‘I've been stabbed, mum' as he collapsed on her doorstep
Jurors heard a panic-stricken dialogue between Mrs Ferns and the call handler TRAGIC LAST MOMENTS Scots mum tells murder trial how son said 'I've been stabbed, mum' as he collapsed on her doorstep Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A WOMAN told a murder trial of the harrowing moment her son collapsed on her doorstep and pleaded, 'I've been stabbed, mum.' Phylis Ferns described hearing a bang at her door before she looked outside to see stricken Tony, 33, laying on the ground with his head on the doorstep. 3 The court was told Tony died as a result of a catastrophic stab wound to the heart 3 Phylis Ferns described hearing a bang at her door before she saw stricken Tony 3 Four men are accused of Tony's murder on April 18, 2019 Credit: Les Gallagher She then dialled 999 and the call she made was played to jurors at the High Court in Glasgow where four men are accused of Tony's murder. Asked what happened that day by Advocate Depute Alex Prentice, Mrs Ferns said: 'I heard a bang on my door and Tony shouted, 'Mum'. 'I opened the door and he was lying on the stairs and he told me he had been stabbed. 'I saw Tony laying on the stairs mostly with his legs on the path and his head was on the top of the stairs. 'He told me, 'I have been stabbed mum'.' Mr Prentice asked the witness: 'What did you do?' She replied: 'I got my phone and made a treble nine call.' Mr Prentice then asked Mrs Ferns if she was content for the court to hear a recording of her pleas for an ambulance. Jurors heard a panic-stricken dialogue between Mrs Ferns and the call handler who asked 'Is the patient breathing?' Ms Ferns: 'He is sitting up. He is conscious. I don't know what's happened. I need an ambulance.' Desperate cries could be heard in the background amid the commotion as the call handler told Ms Ferns an ambulance was on its way to her home at Roukenburn Street. Weapon-obsessed teen GUILTY of murdering boy, 15, at school with hunting knife before making chilling excuse to teacher The handler asked: 'Is there any serious bleeding?' Sounding increasingly distraught, Ms Ferns replied: 'Aye. It's right through. There is a lot of blood. You are going to have to get an ambulance. My son is dying.' She added: 'He is a horrible colour. He is bleeding.' The handler was then heard urging Mrs Ferns to get a clean towel and press it against his chest wound in a bid to stem the bleeding. At one point, Ms Ferns is heard saying, 'He is passing out' before she tells her son, 'You are not dying'. Further instructions were given about how to administer mouth-to-mouth by which point two neighbours had raced to Tony's aid but he could not be saved. The court also heard from Tony's girlfriend Angela McCann, 36, who said she had also ran to his side after he told her, 'Angie, I've been stabbed.' She told the court: 'I just ran up to him. I held in my arms. He collapsed in my arms.' Asked by Mr Prentice if he was responsive during the 999 call, Ms McCann replied: 'You could see the life was draining.' A forensic pathologist who examined Tony's body told the court he died as a result of a catastrophic stab wound to the heart. Dr Gemma Kemp said the victim had suffered two stab wounds, one 'survivable' blow to the abdomen and another 7cm deep injury through the centre of his chest. Reading from a post mortem report, she said: 'Anthony Ferns died as a result of a stab wound of the heart and that was the cause of death.' She said there had been significant internal blood loss as a result of a 'severe' blow with a weapon like a knife that penetrated his heart. Mr Prentice asked: 'Despite the best efforts of those trying to save his life this was really a lost cause?' Dr Kemp replied: 'yes.' Raymond Platt, 56, Craig Colquhoun, 39, Robert Park, 69, Joseph McCulloch, 50, are on trial accused of killing the tiler in Thornliebank, near Glasgow on April 18 2019. They deny the murder charge.
