'I got a fan to battle the heatwave and it majorly improved my sleep'
With scorching weather this week and no air con units at home, sleeping has been a real struggle of late. I tossed and turned, kicking the duvet off the bed to keep my body cool.
For all the heatwaves in the past, I have been relying on my air humidifier to keep a flow of fresh air in the room, but that did not help when the mercury surged past 30C this week. I got myself a Morphy Richards Pedestal Fan and it has majorly improved my sleep.
The Morphy Richards Airflex Circulating Pedestal Fan, currently available on Amazon for £149.99, stands one metre tall and is equipped with a high-performance motor that provides strong cooling power. It has eight speed settings ranging from a gentle breeze to strong cooling.
It also features 60° auto left-right and up-down oscillation to ensure airflow. While all the function controls are set at the base, those who have knee or back issues can use a remote control.
As much as I like to think that heatwave s only lasts for a few days in a year and it's not worth investing in a cooling gadget, the Morphy Richards fan has been a game-changer for me and the feature I have been enjoying using is the quiet sleep mode. I put it on speed 3 and it's really quiet. I couldn't hear the motor spinning and I was getting cool whisper air all night.
I fell asleep almost straight away and had the most peaceful and undisturbed sleep without waking up in sweat, another useful function is the timer allowing it to shut off after one hour, two hours, four hours or eight hours.
Instead of the traditional design with a net-like metal casing, the Morphy Richards fan measures at 9 inches with a sturdy curved cover that makes cleaning and dusting a breeze. Other than Morphy Richards, Shark's FlexBreeze Portable Fan bears a similar design with five cooling fan speeds, 180° oscillation and 55° tilt. It's currently reduced from £199.99 to £169.99.
For a budget option, Argos' Challenger Chrome Pedestal Fan requires little to no set-up and it's now marked down from £50 to £38. The fan has three speed settings with a 1.6m power cord.
One thing about the Morphy Richard fan that has been hit and miss to me is the remote control - the sensor is not working particularly well and I had to go quite close to the fan to change the speed setting or turn it off.
It would also be nice if the brand included a dust cover but on Amazon, there are many options to choose from. However I'm pleased to have purchased a fan to keep me cool in this heat.

Pet smells linger? This vacuum removes odours for a fresher home
Metro journalists select and curate the products that feature on our site. If you make a purchase via links on this page we will earn commission – learn more If your home smells more of wet dog than fresh linen, even after you've vacuumed, mopped and scrubbed – you're not alone. Lingering pet odours are notoriously stubborn, especially when they cling to carpets and upholstery. We love our furry friends of course, but it can feel like a constant battle trying to keep things clean, especially after a rainy dog walk. But according to shoppers, the Shark Stratos Pet Pro Anti Hair Wrap Plus Anti-Odour XL Upright Vacuum is the secret weapon all dog lovers should buy. Featuring anti-odour technology, the Shark Stratos Pet Pro Anti Hair Wrap Plus Anti-Odour XL Upright Vacuum [AZ3000UKT] traps dust and smells inside the vacuum and leaves floors with a light, fresh scent. Its anti hair wrap technology is great for pet fur and long human hair and the Powered Lift-Away feature makes cleaning in difficult to reach areas a doddle. Buy Now for £349.99 Described as a 'perfect for pet owners' this vacuum doesn't just lift stubborn pet hair and dander, it actually neutralises pet smells, too. How does it do this, I hear you ask. Well, the standout feature is Shark's Anti-Odour Technology, which actively captures and eliminates bad smells inside the vacuum as you clean, rather than blowing them back into the room like other vacuums. It's also built with Anti Hair Wrap Plus technology, which means no more pulling clumps of tangled hair off the brush roll and handles pet hair (and long human hair) with ease, even on thick-pile carpets and rugs. And, for those suffering from allergies, the incredible Anti-Allergen Complete Seal technology means 99.9% of dust and allergens are captured inside the dustbin, rather than floating back into the air you breathe. And it's not just for floors. Thanks to the Powered Lift-Away feature, the dustbin detaches from the upright so you can clean stairs, cars, sofas and under furniture without missing a spot. Add in the XL dust bin (fewer trips to empty it) and the ability to switch seamlessly between hard floors and carpets, and it's easy to see why so many pet owners are making the switch. Sounds too good to be true? We don't blame you for thinking this. But don't just take our word for it, take a look at what other shoppers have to say about the Shark Stratos Pet Pro Anti Hair Wrap Plus Anti-Odour XL Upright Vacuum. More Trending One review left by a user named JaneyB said: 'Amazing product! I would recommend it to anybody that has dogs.' And a five-star review from a user named Liam said: 'Great product, easy to use on carpet and wood and clears up dog hair perfectly.' And a review left by Laura said: 'Great vacuum. I bought it to replace my old Shark after 9 years and it hasn't disappointed at all. While being a heavyish vacuum is very easy to maneuver. The new smell attachment is great and really leaves a very nice scent after. Attachments are just perfect for a household of many pets and the pet tool is great for a quick clean on the sofa.'
