Sanitation workers unfurl national flag in Shaikpet
It has been observed that the moment was deeply emotional — as the tricolour rose, tears streamed down the faces of the honoured sanitation workers, while residents erupted into applause, sending a powerful message.
The celebration also featured sports events for seniors and juniors, 40 free blood tests, and a community breakfast — turning the protest into a festival of unity.
Speaking at the event, Asif Sohail, President of the Jubilee Hills Constituency 300 Colonies Forum, said 'These sanitation workers are our backbone.
Every single day, they clean our streets and keep our homes healthy. The Constitution says all are equal — and today, we proved it. They are not outsiders; they are our own.'
With the recent attacked on the sanitation workers in the areas by the local leaders. The protest has already started gaining attention beyond Shaikpet.
Residents have warned that any attack on those who serve the community will be met with unity, resistance, and nationwide exposure.

Yathindra assures grants for Vishwakarma community hostel
Mysuru: Congress MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah assured that grants would soon be released for the incomplete Vishwakarma community students' hostel at TK Layout and for facilities to be set up at the mutt in Aremadanahalli, Chikkahalli, on T Narasipura Road. He spoke after participating in the Pratibha Puraskar (Talent Awards) programme organised by the Mysuru District Vishwakarma Yuva Jagruti Vedike at Jaganmohan Palace auditorium. Highlighting the challenges of the Vishwakarma community, Yathindra said they continue to remain backward socially, economically, educationally, and politically. "Oppressed communities must achieve economic progress. The govt led by chief minister Siddaramaiah is committed to empowering backward classes, Dalits, and minorities," he said. He stressed the need for unity among backward classes, cautioning that communal forces often attempt to mislead them for political gains. "We must not fall prey to such conspiracies. If the Constitution is not safeguarded, society will face grave dangers," he warned. On development works, he assured that halted construction of the hostel would resume soon and that all necessary facilities for the mutt would be provided. He further announced that a chairman would shortly be appointed to the Vishwakarma Development Corporation and promised to pursue additional grants through it to meet the community's needs. India-Maldives Bilateral Trade Jumps 3-Fold In Last 7 Years
New Delhi: Bilateral trade between India and the Maldives has registered a more than 3-fold jump over the past seven years from $223 million in 2017–18 to $680 million in 2024–25, according to official figures. India's exports to the Maldives rose from $217 million in FY 2017-18 to $561 million in FY 2024-25, while imports from the Maldives expanded from $6 million to $119 million during the same period. The trade between the two countries is expected to increase further with Prime Minister Narendra Modi announcing a Rs 4,850 crore line of credit to the Maldives during his recent visit to the island nation last month. Additionally, PM Modi announced that discussions for a free trade agreement have also started between the two countries. India has decided to promote renewable energy in the Maldives and will share its experience in this sector with the Indian Ocean neighbour. PM Modi visited the Maldives at the invitation of President Mohamed Muizzu and attended the country's 60th Independence Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour. This also represented a turnaround in relations with the Muizzu government, which came to power in 2023. The turnaround in the bilateral ties assumes significance as President Muizzu, known to be close to China, was known for his anti-India rhetoric while in the opposition as part of his political strategy to oust the earlier government. The Maldives is one of India's key maritime neighbours in the Indian Ocean Region, and the overall bilateral ties, including in areas of defence and security, witnessed an upward trajectory under the previous governments in Male. This sentiment is embedded in India's Neighbourhood First policy and the MAHASAGAR vision, which recognises that the security and prosperity of the region are inseparable.
