Ron Howard and Henry Winkler talk "Happy Days" reunion at Steel City Con
It's the Pittsburgh mecca for all things fandom. Steel City Con is back at the Monroeville Convention Center.
At 10 a.m. on Friday, the doors to Steel City Con opened to thousands of pop culture fans, who were coming to do everything from a little shopping for vintage toys and art to showing off their unique outfits and costumes.
The Kayla family, who came all dressed as different versions of Superman, say that this event is, well...super!
"This has been kind of our tradition since he was little, little," said J.W. Kayla. "We started working on little costumes and then it grew into where we would just plan out a nice family costume and go do a quick change at the hotel, come back and do something different the rest of the day. I love it. It keeps you young and it's fun!"
And part of the fun for a lot of people at these types of conventions is meeting their favorite celebrities.
This weekend, over 30 stars from film and TV have made the journey to western Pennsylvania to connect with fans. And this Steel City Con is especially big because for the first time since the hit TV show "Happy Days" wrapped in 1984, its core cast members Henry Winkler, Ron Howard, Anson Williams and Don Most are all back together.
KDKA-TV's Chris DeRose met up with both Ron Howard and Henry Winkler backstage.
Chris DeRose:
"What's so great about coming to these conventions and meeting fans?"
Howard:
"First of all, it's great, when you are working on film sets all the time, you are working more for each other and yourself, and you might to a primer or something, but it's all kind of formal," Howard said. And here, you just get that direct energy. But look, I got to say, largely we are here to have a reunion. And we all stay in touch, all of us. And here we are all going to be together and hang and have dinner."
Winkler:
"For the first time ever, we are all together. I have been with Don and Anson before, but this is Ron's second convention in history. I am overwhelmed that we are here all together."
DeRose:
"What makes 'Happy Days' withstand the test of time? It is still going; you can still turn on the TV and watch it."
Winkler:
"I will tell you why. Our leader, the genius of Garry Marshall set it in the 50s so it would be timeless, so that no matter when you turn it on, it was never dated and that was his thought, and the stories are human, wonderful stories."
Howard:
"They are about family, they are about friendship and those themes just endure."
DeRose:
"Well if Michael Keaton were here, another great Pittsburgher, we would have a 'Night Shift' reunion!"
Howard:
"We sure would. We sure would."
Winkler:
"Yes."
DeRose:
"Next time!"
Howard:
"Next time, you bet."
DeRose:
"Thank you guys!"

Could the Nets miss on Giannis Antetokounmpo thanks to Dwight Howard?
The Brooklyn Nets are entering this offseason with plenty to think about when it comes to how they are going to add to the roster in preparation for the 2025-26 campaign. Brooklyn seems to have a chance at being able to trade for Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, but there is a possibility that Antetokounmpo may stay in Milwaukee thanks to a former NBA great. ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Monday that Antetokounmpo is "is open-minded about exploring whether his best long-term fit is remaining in Milwaukee or playing elsewhere" for the first time since he has been with the Bucks. However, with the rumors that Antetokounmpo could be considering playing for another team next season, Hall-of-Famer Dwight Howard weighed on what he thinks the Greek forward should do. Advertisement "Don't leave Giannis coming from someone who been there," Howard wrote on X in reference to what Antetokounmpo could do this summer. While Antetokounmpo is likely going to consult with many people in his life when it comes to the decision that he makes this offseason, it's fair to wonder how much he will listen to outside forces such as Howard, who played for several teams throughout the league during his career. Howard, who is most known for his time with the Orlando Magic, played for six other teams during his 18 years in the NBA, including the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers, whom he won a championship with during the 2019-20 campaign. Antetokounmpo, who is in his 12th season in the Association, appeared to want to remain in Milwaukee as reports indicated that he never made it known that he wanted to go elsewhere. Howard isn't the first person to suggest that Antetokounmpo should remain with the Bucks as teammate Bobby Portis suggested that Antetokounmpo wanted to have a career like Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, and Stephen Curry by spending his entire career with one team. For Brooklyn, Charania's report shows that there is light at the end of the tunnel in terms of their pursuit of Antetokounmpo, but it's possible that voices like Howard and Portis could convince him to stay in Milwaukee. Harvey Weinstein's lawyers argue the alleged perv is the real victim during erratic closing arguments: ‘He's the one who's being abused'
Disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein is the 'poster boy' of cancel culture, his defense attorney ranted during erratic closing arguments, insisting the convicted sex pest is the real victim of the women accusing him of rape. 'They're using their youth, their beauty, their charm, their charisma to get stuff from him,' defense attorney Arthur Aidala said Tuesday of the three women who testified against the once-powerful Hollywood kingpin during his ongoing sex-crimes retrial in Manhattan Superior Court. 'I know it's going to sound crazy, but he's the one who's being abused. He's the one who's getting used.' During the three-hour speech to jurors, Aidala portrayed the relationships between Weinstein and his three accusers — fromer TV production assistant Miriam 'Mimi' Haley, Polish model Kaja Sokola and former actress Jessica Mann — as 'transactional' sexual relationships that were consensual. He claimed the victims are women with broken dreams 'who wanted to cut the line' to stardom. The attorney's animated theatrics balanced a tightrope of absurdity — from mockingly impersonating one of the women to entering the witness stand to discus his own sex life, with his wife in attendance — in an effort to dissuade jurors from reconvicting the one-time movie mogul. 'They needed to get the poster boy, the original sinner for the MeToo movement,' Aidala said, referring to prosecutor's decision for a retrial. 'They tried to do it five years ago, and there was a redo, and they're trying to do it again.' At one point, Aidala took shots at Weinstein's physical appearance, calling the hulking wheelchair-bound ex-Miramax boss a 'fat dude' incapable of 'playing naked Twister' – a hyperbole to how witnesses have described the 'Pulp Fiction' producer's sinister demeanor during the alleged attacks. 'Some of these descriptions from these women sound like 'Cirque du Soleil'!' Aidala charged. The former studio chief's attorney even posed a hypothetical scenario to jurors about a broken shard of glass falling into his own Grandma's 'Sunday Sauce' — likening it to the prosecution's case and the accusers and whether his grandma would still serve the pasta knowing the risk. 'If there's a doubt about his life, their case — you've got to throw it out, you've got to throw it out,' he said. Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Nicole Blumberg fiercely challenged Aidala's spirited remarks, telling the jury that Weinstein — accused of sexual conduct by more than 80 women — wielded his 'power and influence' to trap his victims. 'This was not a courting game as Mr. Aidala wants you to believe,' Blumberg charged at the jury. 'This is not a transaction. This is not people the defendant was fooling around with unless fooling around with is a euphemism for rape… it wasn't about fooling around — it was rape.' Blumberg later argued: 'He never had an interest in their careers. He had an interest in their bodies,' where no meant 'try a little bit harder' until he eventually 'took it anyway.' Weinstein, 73, who has maintained his innocence, faces up to 25 years in prison on two counts of first-degree criminal sexual act, and four years in prison on a charge of third-degree rape. He was originally convicted at trial in 2022, but New York's highest court reversed the conviction last year. Weinstein was separately convicted of rape in California after an Italian model testified that he threw himself on her after appearing uninvited outside her hotel room during an Italian film festival in 2013. The convicted sex fiend was sentenced to 16 years in prison in that case but is appealing. The prosecution will continue with closing arguments Wednesday morning.
