"A bullet and a cartridge have been recovered from the spot. CCTV footage is also being examined. Preliminary investigation suggests he was gunned down by an unidentified bike-borne assailant," she said.
Khemka's son was also shot dead by criminals six years ago in Hajipur.
Bihar Congress spokesperson Rajesh Rathod said the killing has exposed the law and order situation in the state.
"The Bihar government headed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has failed to check the deteriorating law and order. The state is witnessing cases of murder, rape, kidnapping, extortion and abduction everyday," he was quoted as saying by PTI.
Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav and Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly also attacked the state government over its inability to curb crime. "Hundreds of businessmen are being murdered in Bihar every month, but we can't call it jungle raj? Because this is what the scriptures call media management, perception management, and image management," he wrote on social-media platform X in Hindi.
Earlier in the day, RJD leader Mrityunjay Tiwari also slammed the state government over the murder, alleging that the state has "descended into lawlessness" under Nitish Kumar's leadership. "Nitish Kumar is no longer fit to remain on the chief minister's chair even for a moment. Bihar has descended into a state of lawlessness... Only the departure of this government will bring good to Bihar," he told news agency ANI.

Serial Killer On The Run For 24 Years Arrested. He Targeted Cab Drivers
New Delhi: A serial killer who targeted cab drivers and sold off their vehicles has landed in the police net after 24 years. The Delhi Police crime branch has arrested Ajay Lamba, who was wanted in four murder-cum-robbery cases. He was on the run for over two decades. Lamba and his accomplices would hire taxis and travel to Uttarakhand. They would then sedate the driver, choke him to death and dispose of the body in the hills. The cab would be smuggled across the border and sold in Nepal. "The accused, a notorious robber-cum-murderer, was involved in four brutal robbery-cum-murder cases targeting cab drivers across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand during the year 2001. He would hire taxis with accomplices, murder the drivers, rob the vehicles, and dispose of the bodies in remote mountainous regions to avoid detection," Aditya Gautam, Deputy Commissioner of Police, said in a statement. Police suspect that Ajay Lamba and his gang members could be involved in more killings. Of the four victims, only one cab driver's body was recovered. Two of Lamba's gang members were arrested earlier. Police are now questioning him. Lamba, 48, is from Delhi and dropped out of school in Class 6. He later moved to Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh and tied up with Dhirendra and Dilip Negi for the chilling murders of cab drivers. Lamba has several other cases against him, ranging from theft to illegal possession of arms, police have said. Police have said that a Crime Branch team had been tracking Lamba through manual and technical surveillance. Police have said he lived in Nepal from 2008 to 2018 and later shifted to Dehradun with his family. "In 2020, he allegedly became involved in the ganja supply chain from Odisha to other parts of India, including Delhi. He was recently arrested in a case registered under NDPS Act in 2021 in PS Sagarpur, Delhi and again in a jewellery shop dacoity case in Behrampur, Odisha in 2024. He was on bail in these cases. He never disclosed his involvement (in the 2001 murders) and absconding status to anyone," the police statement said.

2 Days After BJP Leader Gopal Khemka's Murder, A Request From His Son
Patna (Bihar): Gaurav Khemka, son of businessman Gopal Khemka who was shot dead near the main gate of his residence in Patna's Gandhi Maidan area, has requested police protection for his family, citing a previous family tragedy and fear for their lives. In his statement recorded in the FIR on Saturday, Gaurav mentioned that his brother, Gunjan Khemka, was also murdered in 2018. "After this incident, my family and I are frightened. We request that the government and police provide us with security and ensure the safety of our family. Also, the perpetrators should be arrested and punished," he wrote. Gaurav narrated the incident in his statement, saying that around 8:30 PM, his father had gone to the Bankipore Club. When he returned home at 11:20 PM, assailants who were already waiting at the gate shot him in the head. He added that after hearing the gunshot and being alerted by the building guard, he and his wife rushed to the gate. There, they found Gopal Khemka lying in a pool of blood. Gaurav said they rushed him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police were informed around midnight. However, Gaurav alleged that there was no immediate action. In the FIR, he wrote, "Upon inaction by police, I, along with my family, were about to take my father's dead body home. Around 2 AM, the District Magistrate came and said that we can take the body home only after the post-mortem." He stated that the post-mortem was conducted around 6 AM, after which the body was brought home. An FIR has been registered in the case at Gandhi Maidan Police Station under case number 391/25, dated July 5, 2025. The case is registered under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 27 of the Arms Act. Bihar Police has set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the murder.
