Over 16,000 appear in PU UG entrance test
As many as 16,028 students appeared in Panjab University's common entrance test (CET) for admission to undergraduate (UG) science courses, officials said on Monday. The number of students appearing for the exam was similar to that of last year, according to PU officials.
According to the data shared by PU, the test was organised across 24 centres —19 in Chandigarh, two each in Hoshiarpur and Ludhiana, and one in Sri Muktsar Sahib.
Controller of Examinations Jagat Bhushan said 5,258, 5,256, 2,243 and 3,271 candidates appeared for the physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology papers, respectively. These figures are similar to that of last year — 5,271 (chemistry), 5,273 (physics), 2,351 (mathematics) and 3,193 (biology) in 2024.
The university data suggested that 79.1% of the students who had applied appeared in the test. Last year, 84.6% of the applicants had turned up.
The question booklets and answer keys of PU CET (UG) 2025 have been uploaded on the official website.
A candidate, Aryan Pathania, from Pathankot, who came with his sister, described the recent days as stressful. 'I reached here early in the morning. The last few days have been very stressful for us. I will return home today as I don't want to leave my family alone even though the situation is normal now,' he said while referring to the recent exchange of drone and missile strikes between India and Pakistan.
Dravey Jamba, who travelled from Jammu for the test, said. 'I had to cancel my previous ticket due to the ongoing situation. I reached today morning. I was exhausted while doing the paper, but hopefully it went well. I am hoping for good marks.'
Megha Jamwal from Bathinda said, 'My entrance test went well. I just hope that, like the exam, our results don't face any obstacles and everything goes smoothly.'
Suman Sharma from Dharamshala, who accompanied her daughter, said the latter was worried, fearing that the test might be postponed again amid the India-Pakistan tension.
Though the CET UG result was scheduled to be declared on June 2, the result declaration is likely to be advanced to May 23 so that the admission process can begin early.

PU extends last date for admission again
Patna: Patna University (PU) has once again extended the last date for online submission of applications for admission to the four-year degree courses under conventional mode and three-year degree courses under self-financed (vocational) mode by five days. He said that earlier the last date for submission of applications for undergraduate courses was May 31. But, the date has been extended on the demand of several students from north Bihar region who had not received their Class XII marksheets from the CBSE for some reasons. According to CBSE officials, the pending marksheets were likely to be released within two to three days, he said. The PU has received about 9500 applications for admission against about 4500 sanctioned seats in arts, science and commerce streams (both under regular and self-financed streams). The dean said that the first merit list of applicants selected for admission in different streams at PU's constituent colleges — Patna College, Patna Science College, Vanijya Mahavidyalaya, B N College and Magadh Mahila College is likely to be released on June 10. The last date for admission to all undergraduate courses is June 26. Induction meet of all newly admitted students will be held on July 2 and the classes of new batches of students will commence from July 3, he added.

Seat matrix delay derails CET 2024 counselling across Karnataka
Karnataka Examinations Authority Departments consistently delay seat matrix approval. Full data is still missing, inevitably delaying the CET process –KEA Executive Director H Prasanna The delay in submission of seat matrix by engineering, medical, and nursing colleges to the(KEA) has raised serious concerns about the smooth conduct of the seat allotment process for CET 2024 aspirants. Despite the official deadline of May 23, over 650 institutions have failed to provide details of available seats, leading to fears of potential delays and confusion during the counselling phase. KEA had issued two reminders after the deadline, but many institutions continue to remain year, 3.11 lakh students appeared for the Common Entrance Test (CET), of which 2.75 lakh have qualified. The centralized allotment process depends on timely and accurate seat matrix data, without which the schedule could be severely per the seat matrix data received so far, only 85,259 out of the total 1,11,294 seats across various professional courses have been submitted to KEA. This shortfall is causing widespread anxiety among students and parents who fear delays in counselling may hinder deserving candidates from securing seats in their preferred official from KEA said that engineering accounts for the largest intake with 79,907 seats, but only 66,254 have been reported so far. Pharmacy colleges have submitted 2,826 out of 3,227 seats. In Food Science, 329 out of 365 seats have been reported. Prasanna acknowledged the delay and pointed out that multiple departments are yet to submit their respective seat matrices. 'Every year, some departments delay approval. This year too, despite repeated appeals, we have not received complete data. This will inevitably affect the CET process,' he has a vast network of institutions—224 engineering colleges, 26 architecture colleges, 97 AYUSH institutions, 65 medical colleges, 38 dental colleges, 16 homeopathy colleges, 5 naturopathy colleges, 126 colleges, 38 Pharm D colleges, and 14 yoga education institutions. Each must submit caste-wise seat data to KEA to ensure a fair and efficient allotment urge all departments to submit seat matrix promptly to prevent student losses.
