The reason Kate Middleton has four rings & the meaning behind each jewel in her impressive £400k stack

The Sun16-07-2025
PRINCESS Kate looked characteristically elegant as she attended Wimbledon this year - but it was her rings that got everyone talking.
The Princess of Wales, 43, wore a grand total of four rings on her wedding finger during her outings at the tennis championship.

As is usual, she wore her gold wedding band and her iconic sapphire and diamond engagement ring that used to belong to Princess Diana.
But she also wore a third ring: an eternity ring that has been in her collection for years.
Princess Kate finished off the stack with a gemstone eternity band that she has been wearing frequently over the past year.
Jewellery expert Ella Citron-Thompkins, jewellery expert from Diamonds Factory, said the total stack of four could be worth £400,000 in total.
They explained: "Kate Middleton's four-ring stack is estimated to be worth up to £400,000, with the majority of that value coming from her iconic sapphire and diamond engagement ring.
"Alongside it, she wears her Welsh gold wedding band, likely valued between £2,000 and £3,000, as well as the diamond eternity ring gifted to her after Prince George's birth, estimated at around £1,500. Completing the stack is a slim white diamond eternity band, thought to be worth approximately £1,000.
"While the combined cost is significant, much of the value lies in the emotional and historical meaning behind each piece.'
HIDDEN MEANING
The jewellery expert claims that the ring choice was likely to be strategic and thought out.
She told Fabulous: 'Princess of Wales's ring stack is extremely symbolic and carefully curated.
'Her sapphire and diamond engagement ring, once worn by Princess Diana, is naturally the centrepiece, and she pairs it with her classic Welsh gold wedding band, a royal tradition since 1923.

'Adding a personal touch is her diamond eternity ring, believed to be a gift marking Prince George's birth, and more recently, she's introduced a slim, modern, white diamond eternity band, and a Cartier sapphire-and-diamond eternity ring, potentially signifying a new chapter or milestone.'
Ella claimed that there could be a poignant reason why we've seen a shift in Kate's jewellery choices, following her preventative cancer treatment, and her announcing in January that she was in remission.
The jewellery expert explained: 'Instead of her full ring stack, it seems that at times the Princess opts to wear just her eternity bands.
'Following her recent treatment, it's clear that much has shifted in her life.
'Health challenges often bring a deeper appreciation for comfort and symbolism, especially in jewellery choices.
'It's understandable and admirable that she may want a more low-key approach for casual or everyday appearances.'
KATE'S WIMBLEDON WEEKEND
4
Princess Kate attended Wimbledon on Saturday to see the Women's Final, and then was back Sunday for the Men's Final, accompanied by husband Prince William, and eldest kids, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince George, 11.
The royals visited the tennis tournament to watch defending champion Carlos Alcaraz take on world number one Jannik Sinner in the men's singles final today, with Kate set to present the trophy to the winner.
In a poignant clip, Kate was seen speaking to an 11-year-old cancer patient at Wimbledon before he performed the ceremonial coin toss.
Ambrose, who is battling bone cancer and has undergone chemotherapy, emotionally shook hands with Kate – who was diagnosed with the disease last January and also underwent the treatment.

After greeting Ambrose and asking how he was, the boy told Kate about his diagnosis and treatment.
The royal asked: 'How are you finding your treatment?'
The boy said: 'A lot better, I'm on the mend.'
Kate then praised Ambrose, appearing to say: 'It's tough. What a brave boy you've been."
After being told the boy would be doing the coin toss for the final, she added: 'Good luck today. We'll be cheering you on.'
The boy talked with the royals for more than a minute before they moved down the line, before crossing the bridge to a massive cheer from the crowd below.
They also met TV star and explorer Steve Backshall who, after being told by the royals that both kids knew his shows, appeared to joke: "I can only apologise."
The family also met disability sports coach Temi Johnson, who did the coin toss for the men's wheelchair final this morning.
The royals took centre stage at the front row of the Royal Box, surrounded by other famous faces such as actors Nicole Kidman, Andrew Scott, and Matthew McConaughey.
Wills' appearance marks his first back at the All England Club since 2022.
How much should you spend on an engagement ring?
New analysis by engagement ring expert, 77 Diamonds, reveals that the average person across Britain should be spending almost £10k on an engagement ring if they plan to pop the question in 2025.
It's often said that when buying an engagement ring, a good rule of thumb is that it should cost the equivalent of three months salary.
77 Diamonds has analysed average gross salary data in Great Britain from the Office for National Statistics* to understand exactly what three months worth of salary currently comes to, and reveal the areas of the country in which proposers might be buying the most expensive rings.

Vogue readers furious after spotting 'disturbing' AI models in an ad in the prestigious magazine

It looks like fashion label Guess is not shying away from using artificial intelligence in its ad campaigns - after the brand ran a two-page spread in this month's August edition of Vogue that was 'produced' by an AI marketing company. The advertisements appeared about halfway through Vogue's August print issue, showing a woman with bouncy, long blonde hair modeling two different outfits on separate pages. The images were not part of Vogue editorial, but instead, presumably paid advertisements for the Guess brand that appeared in the famous fashion bible. In one ad, the model sat at a café table with a cup of coffee, wearing a light blue romper covered in mesh floral detailing, as well as a gold watch and necklace from the brand. The other photo depicted the same AI model in a black-and-white chevron print dress, carrying a matching Guess handbag in front of a 'shop' filled with hats in their window. In the fine print on the side of the ad, it read that the campaign was produced by 'Seraphinne Vallora on AI.' Seraphinne Vallora is an agency that designs 'editorial level AI-driven marketing campaigns and cinematic videos,' its campaigns featured not only in Vogue but also in Elle and Harper's Bazaar. On its website, London-based founders Valentina and Andreea stated that they wanted to use AI to brands' advantage. 'We want to harness the incredible power of AI to revolutionize marketing images. We realized that AI offered a cost-effective, hassle-free path to design brilliance,' the website reads. 'No more expensive travel or complicated arrangements, We wanted to make it all accessible, to companies of all sizes. 'An easy solution to market their companies without the stress and complications.' Daily Mail reached out to Guess for comment. But the advertisement didn't seem to slip past eagle-eyed fashion fans, as it went viral on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday morning. Popular account Pop Crave posted a TikTok made by user @lala4an, which showed the ad. However, Pop Crave incorrectly claimed that Vogue was using the AI models - when it was in fact Guess. But even so, it looks like many fashion fans weren't happy with the choice, as they furiously responded to the Pop Crave post. 'This is kinda sad. There's so many people who would love to be on the magazine just for them to be giving these opportunities to AI…' one user wrote. Another agreed, 'That's disturbing. This is the direction AI should not be going in... wow.' 'AI is not even sparing the fashion industry,' someone else typed. One X user pointed out, 'Great. The new beauty standard will be, literally, unobtainable because it's not real.' Others, however, thought that it was a great sign for the future. 'The future is here. Takes less time and much cheaper to make,' someone shared. Another agreed, 'Well, it's cheaper.' The advertisement comes just one year after OpenAI and Vogue's publishing parent, Condé Nast, announced a partnership together, per BBC. The deal involved allowing ChatGPT and its search engine, SearchGPT, to display content from Vogue and its other publications like GQ. The deal was reported to be multi-year.

The more comical the action at women's Euros, the more woke BBC get – one pundit's pearl of wisdom was red card offence

A SIMPLE equation is at play with the BBC and ITV's coverage of the women's Euros – the funnier the football gets, the more earnest the pundits must become. To the point, when things go really haywire, they sound more like they're dissecting Garry Kasparov versus the Deep Blue chess computer than the latter stages of a football tournament. 7 BBC's pundits during the England/Sweden game 7 Pundit Gabby Logan for BBC Sport Credit: Instagram/gabbylogan 7 Ian Wright during ITV's coverage of England/Italy semi-final Credit: Pixel8000 A sly reference to the exquisite mayhem of the England/Sweden penalty shoot-out, in Zurich, on BBC1, which has to be a contender for the...

Wimbledon star worth millions wants to go on a date with a tennis fan – 'DM me'

Leylah Fernandez took to social media with a bold request, turning her attention to dating after a disappointing Wimbledon display by calling on her fans to ask her out Wimbledon star Leylah Fernandez is on the lookout for love and has invited one of her followers to 'shoot their shot' by asking her out on a date in Montreal. The Canadian tennis ace took to Instagram to share a video with her 349,000 followers, encouraging them to slide into her DMs as she tends to stay away from dating apps. ‌ The 22-year-old addressed them by writing: 'This will be fun, right? This isn't a joke. I fully intend to go on a date in Montreal so go ahead and DM me… time to shoot your shot. PS: you may have to meet my dad beforehand (good luck with that).' ‌ She elaborated on her bizarre 'competition' in a follow-up clip, saying: "In Montreal, I would like to go on a date. You know what I really want to do and that I haven't done is going on a date. I am not a big fan of dating apps. ‌ 'So, I actually am gonna do things my way. I am gonna go on one date for one hour in Montreal. If you wanna be my date, DM me, let me know about yourself. See you there!' Fernandez, who according to Forbes had earned $6.5million (£4.8m) last year as the 18th highest-paid female athlete, later offered an update after getting past rising Australian star Maya Joint in her opening round match at the Citi Open in Washington DC. "There've been a lot of responses,' said the former World No. 13. 'I think the first day, there were maybe over 100 messages. I've got a lot of options. My dad point blank asked me if I'd gone on a date yet, and I told him I hadn't. "I've never really had the time, and no one's really asked me, which, I don't know why! He suggested I post a video on Instagram and have a date in Montréal where you feel at home and you feel comfortable. "I got responses from other athletes, including ones I went to the Olympics with, and they told me, 'I know how you feel,' or, 'When I was 22, I hadn't gone on a date yet, either.' ‌ "At this age, we're all either studying or going to sports competitions, so reading those messages not only makes me feel better and like I'm not the odd one out, but it's also pretty cool that we're able to have those conversations together." The request comes just weeks after Fernandez's underwhelming performance at Wimbledon. The world No. 36 easily defeated Great Britain's Hannah Klugman with a 6-1 6-3 victory in the opening round, reports the Express. However, she suffered an unexpected second round exit after losing to Laura Siegemund in straight sets, 6-2 6-3. Fernandez also teamed up with New Zealand's Lulu Sun for the doubles event. ‌ But they too endured an early exit, losing in the first round to Demi Schuurs and Asia Muhammad, who themselves were eliminated in the next round. Fernandez has had a shaky few months, with early departures from the French Open and Wimbledon indicating that she's not currently playing at her best. However, she set up a round-of-16 clash with world No. 4 Jessica Pegula by beating Joint. The hard-court tournament could provide Fernandez with an opportunity to find her groove before she heads back to Montreal. And victory would certainly give her something to chat about with any potential date back in her home country.
