BOGOTA: Rescue teams found a body inside a section of a Chilean copper mine that collapsed two days earlier during a moderate earthquake, the mine's director said Saturday.
Rescuers have been trying to reach five miners who were trapped Thursday evening in the El Teniente mine in central Chile as rocks collapsed around them during a 4.2 magnitude quake.
The copper mine is one of Chile's largest.
A spokesman for the rescue team that is trying to drill through 90 meters (295 feet) of rock to reach the miners said the body found on Saturday is one of the five miners who were trapped in the mine. El Teniente Director Andres Music said authorities were still trying to identify the body.
The body of another miner - not one of the five still trapped - identified as Paulo Marin Tapia was found Friday, shortly after the mine's partial collapse.
Nine other mine workers suffered injuries, said Chile's National Copper Corp., known as Codelco, describing the incident as a result of "a seismic event."

Foul play? Sunjay Kapur's mother Rani asks UK police to probe 'mysterious' death; family feud escalates

Rani Kapur and Sunjay Kapur NEW DELHI: The mysterious death of Sunjay Kapur in London has triggered an international investigation and intensified a bitter family dispute involving the Kapur family and their flagship company, Sona Comstar. Rani Kapur, Sunjay's mother and former chairperson of Sona Comstar, has formally approached UK authorities seeking a thorough probe into the 'unexplained circumstances' surrounding her son's death. Sources from ANI confirmed that Rani Kapur lodged an official criminal complaint with British police, stressing the urgency for investigation. According to media reports, Rani Kapur claims to have 'credible and concerning evidence… that suggests his (Sunjay Kapur's) death may not have been accidental or natural, but may have involved foul play, including possibility of murder, abetment, conspiracy, fraud, and forgery.' Adding to the international spotlight, US authorities are reportedly monitoring the case closely, as Sunjay Kapur was a US national. In an emotional video interview with ANI, her first public statement since her son's demise, Rani Kapur expressed deep anguish and lingering questions. 'I still don't know what happened to my son,' she said, her voice trembling. 'I'm old now. I need closure before I go,' she was quoted as saying. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your Finger Shape Says a Lot About Your Personality, Read Now Tips and Tricks Undo Family fued Reflecting on the legacy of Sona Comstar, which she co-founded with her late husband, Rani Kapur spoke of the sacrifices and care involved in building the company. 'I remember the early days of Sona, built with care, sacrifice, and love,' she said, pushing back against the company's claims that she has had no involvement since 2019. 'I am here to remind the world that our family's legacy must not be lost. It must be passed on, as my husband always wanted it to be.' The dispute took a sharper turn when Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd, the listed arm of the group, issued a regulatory filing dismissing Rani Kapur's claims as 'baseless' and 'legally untenable.' The company reiterated that she has held no authority or position in the organization since 2019. Before going public, Rani Kapur reportedly sent a letter to the company's board alleging she was coerced into signing documents shortly after her son's death, an episode she described as 'highly suspicious.' She also claimed she was denied access to her bank accounts and left financially dependent on a few individuals. She asserted that no one was authorized to represent the Kapur family on the board. Despite her request to postpone the Annual General Meeting, the company proceeded as scheduled. Sona Comstar has since served her a legal notice demanding she cease spreading what it calls 'false and damaging information,' strongly refuting her allegations of coercion and mismanagement as 'malafide, false, unwarranted, and uncorroborated.' While Rani Kapur has decided to step back from public comments due to age and health concerns, she affirmed her legal team will handle all future proceedings, signaling that the high-stakes family and corporate battle is far from over.

'Where is safety': Congress MP slams govt after chain snatched in Delhi's VIP zone

Member of Parliament from Tamil Nadu's Mayiladuthurai Lok Sabha constituency, R Sudha, recounting her chain-snatching incident, alleged that there is no safety for women in this country. The incident reportedly happened when MP Sudha was out for her morning walk in the high-security area of Chanakyapuri.(X) She slammed the Delhi government, saying that the incident happened when a woman was serving as the Chief Minister of Delhi. Speaking to ANI after her gold chain was snatched in Chanakyapuri area of Delhi, she said, "I am still in shock. There is no safety for women in this country...I am thinking about the common women, where will they go?...A woman CM is ruling this state. Where is the safety and security? Had he slit my neck, I would have died on the spot." The incident reportedly happened when she was out for her routine morning walk in the high-security area of Chanakyapuri, where embassies of various countries are located. The Lok Sabha MP further said, "He pulled my chain and tore my clothes. I wanted to fix my clothes, and that is why I was not bothered about my chain. After snatching, he left immediately. I shouted, and everybody was there on the road, but nobody was ready to come and help me. That shocked me. I then proceeded to the Tamil Nadu Guest House, and I saw a Police patrol with two Police personnel, and we informed them. But the Police didn't react much. They just took our phone numbers and names. They asked me to come down to the Police Station to lodge a complaint." She added, "I then called up my Congress colleague, Manickam Tagore. He sent the Police, and I gave my complaint to them. Priyanka Gandhi took me to the Speaker, and I gave a complaint there also. I also mailed a complaint to the Home Minister. I am waiting for a response. I still have depression and shock." While speaking to reporters on Congress MP R. Sudha's gold chain-snatching incident, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari said," Gang wars, murders, law and order situation has become an everyday thing in Delhi, which is under the Home Ministry. It appears that there is no law and order under the BJP government...". Speaking to ANI, Congress MP Imran Masood said, 'When a woman MP is not safe even in such a secure area, what must be the condition in other parts of the country? It is clear to everyone. Today, the government has completely collapsed. It is not ready to talk about democracy in the temple of democracy. If democracy itself does not survive, what will happen to the Parliament?' Earlier today, in a letter addressed to Amit Shah, MP Sudha recounted that the attack took place between 6:15 am and 6:20 am on August 4, when she and another MP, Rajathi from the Rajya Sabha, were walking near Gates 3 and 4 of the Polish embassy. "A man wearing a full helmet, riding a two-wheeler, approached them from the opposite direction and snatched my gold chain before fleeing the spot," the Congress MP said. The parliamentarian has urged the Home Minister to direct the authorities to track down and arrest the culprit.

‘If a woman cannot walk safely…': MP R Sudha's gold chain snatched during morning walk in Delhi, writes to Amit Shah

R Sudha, a Member of Parliament from the Mayiladuthurai Lok Sabha constituency in Tamil Nadu, has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, saying that her gold chain was snatched on Monday morning in the Chanakyapuri area of Delhi, according to a report by ANI. The parliamentarian has called on the Home Minister to instruct authorities to locate and arrest the offender. Sudha, who is currently in Delhi attending the ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament, mentioned that she was on her usual morning walk when the incident occurred in a high-security area where embassies and different countries are situated. The Lok Sabha MP, in the letter addressed to Amit Shah informed that the incident took place between 6:15 am and 6:20 am when she and another MP, Rajathi from the Rajya Sabha, were walking near Gates 3 and 4 of the Polish embassy. "Both of us cried for help, and later spotted a mobile patrol vehicle of the Delhi Police and lodged a complaint," she added. The MP, who is currently residing at Tamil Nadu House in the national capital, described the incident as deeply distressing and shocking, particularly considering the location, which is a high-security zone packed with embassies and government offices. "If a woman cannot walk safely in this high-priority zone in the national capital, where else can we feel safe and do our routine without fearing for our limbs, lives, and valuables?" Sudha said. She mentioned that her gold chain was worth more than four sovereigns and that the loss and injury caused her trauma. In her letter, she urged the Home Minister to instruct authorities to locate the accused through CCTV footage in the area. Delhi police have registered a case, and the probe is underway.
