ladies football team would be used to triumphant homecomings, having won seven senior All-Irelands since 2010.
Yet Tuesday night's reception in Smithfield was the first time the All-Ireland champions have had a dedicated homecoming all to themselves.
Not before time, admitted Dublin Lord Mayor Ray McAdam.
'They have made our city and county proud once again. It's about time and it is a fitting way to celebrate every member of this squad,' he told a crowd of several thousand mostly young people gathered in Smithfield square. 'They are inspiring the young girls and the young boys before us.'

The homecoming had been due to take place on Monday night but was postponed because of high winds. What's another day when you've been waiting 15 years as a team for an occasion like this?

They went to the Castleknock Hotel on Sunday night to celebrate and then it was – to quote Dublin captain Bryan Cullen from 2011 – 'back to Coppers' for a long night of celebrations into the early morning.
Their latest All-Ireland triumph, a thumping
win over provincial rivals Meath
on Sunday, was the most emphatic to date after the Jackeens steamrolled their rivals in the first quarter.

They had been within 60 seconds of an exit at the semi-final stage but drew level with Galway thanks to a heart-stopping 40-metre free from Hannah Tyrrell. .
Tyrrell turned up to the homecoming with a crutch in one hand and her daughter Aoife (2) in the other. She came off in the final with a bad knee injury with about five minutes left, the game long having been won.
It is the end of an incredible sporting career for the 34-year-old who finishes with two All-Ireland titles, having only joined the Dubs senior ladies back in 2021.
She was part of the Ireland rugby team that won the Six Nations in 2015 and played at the Rugby World Cup in 2017. She also played rugby sevens.
'It was worth it for the win. It doesn't matter now, I'm retired,' she said of her injury.
Her daughter appeared on stage with the cup, a future Jackeen heroine perhaps in the making.

Team captain Carla Rowe, winning her fourth All-Ireland, was 'overwhelmed' by the honour.
'There was a moment this morning when I was meeting the girls to go into town and I thought, 'we're All-Ireland champions'. Those little moments are really cool,' she said.
'It's the first homecoming for a ladies team, which is amazing, so whatever comes after that, we are going to enjoy it. We are enjoying every moment while we can. It is these days you always remember with the group.'

Opener Amy Hunter started with intent and top-scored for the hosts with 37 before she was bowled by Nashra Sandhu, leaving Ireland on 63 for two after nine overs. Orla Prendergast (29) and Leah Paul (28) came together and pushed Ireland beyond the three-figure mark before the former fell to Rameen Shamim. Ireland were looking at a score of upwards of 150 but they lost the final six wickets for just 21 runs as they set Pakistan a score of 143 for victory, Fatima Sana the pick of the bowlers with four wickets. In response, Ireland took wickets at regular intervals and had the visitors 54 for five after 12 overs, which gave Pakistan a mountain to climb. Natalia Pervaiz did her best to guide Pakistan to an unlikely victory with her score of 29 but she chipped Prendergast into the hands of Cara Murray which signalled the end of Pakistan's hopes. Prendergast claimed three wickets and Jane Maguire got two to help Ireland to a well-earned win.

Ireland looking to bounce back from England defeat against Wales
Ireland Boys' Captain John Carroll says the future is bright as his players were resolute in defeat to England on the second day of the R&A Boys' & Girls' Home Internationals in Cork. A youthful looking Irish outfit battled hard against their more experienced opponents with Isaac Oliver (5&4), William O'Riordan (3&1) and Caelan Coleman (3&2) grabbing three precious victories in the afternoon singles. It was a tough day for the combined Irish side, with England claiming a 14.5-6.5 win and while they turn their attentions to Scotland and a winner-takes-all clash tomorrow, Ireland will face Wales looking for more positives. 'It was always going to be tough. We came here knowing that England are probably the strongest of the four home nations but we gave it a good go,' said Carroll. 'We have picked a very young team with a view to giving them experience for next year, we had a disappointing European Championships in Czech Republic where we got relegated to Division 2. 'Hopefully these 16-year-olds, and in one case a 15-year-old, will get the experience to get us back up next year to Division 1. Fantastic group, there is never an issue with them, travelling around France, Scotland, England, Spain, all over Europe. 'A great crew, they have built up a great bond and they are a young team. 'Our girls will go out first (against Wales), our girls have been flying, they came third in the European Championships getting a bronze medal, doing the country proud. 'Hopefully we can reverse the result from today and get a win tomorrow.' However, they fell 4.5-2.5 behind and England took control early in the afternoon singles. Scotland also secured their second straight win on Wednesday after a comprehensive 15-6 defeat of Wales. The Scots were 5.5-1.5 ahead following the morning foursomes and won nine of the singles matches to keep their campaign on track. 'Delighted with that, I thought today would be a really tough game and it was but the troops have come through again. Some great golf out there from both teams and very happy to win,' said Scotland Captain Stuart Johnston. 'That (England) will be tough obviously, they are a good team. They have got a lot of great players so we will just go out and do our best, take it match by match. 'If we prevail then that is fantastic, if we don't then we will give it our best shot.'

‘Incredible' Ava Canning stars in Ireland's opening T20 success against Pakistan
The Girls in Green were bowled out for 142 and after a solid powerplay from the visitors the momentum swung to the home side as Leinster medium-pacer Canning and leg-spinner Cara Murray turned the screw. Canning bowled her four overs off the reel, including a maiden, and Pakistan had no answer to her stock ball which is delivered from wide of the crease and swings into the batter, with a packed off-side field. Orla Prendergast took wickets at the top and bottom of the innings for figures of 3-28 which allied to 29 runs with the bat won her the player-of-the-match award. 'Ava's was an incredible spell,' Prendergast said. 'Four overs on the trot and one of those at the end of the powerplay – which is always the trickiest to bowl. 'She gave them very little width and really attacked the stumps which is what she was asked to do. 'Clontarf is a hard ground to defend a score on because shots run away to the boundary that wouldn't on other grounds.' Amy Hunter top-scored with 37 from 30 balls, including five boundaries, but Leah Paul was the pick of the batters, playing a gloriously impudent reverse sweep in her 28 off 19, while Laura Delany hit the only six of the innings. The victory stretched Ireland's winning streak in T20 internationals to eight and skipper Gaby Lewis is targeting another clean sweep with matches to follow at Castle Avenue on Friday and on Sunday. 'We can't get complacent, we have to keep improving,' Lewis said. 'Yeah, we got the win but we're looking to take a 3-0 here and we're very confident we can do that.'
