First fully indigenous AK-203 assault rifle to be delivered to Army by December
As per the contract, the Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL) has to deliver all the rifles by December 2032. So far, the company has supplied around 48,000 to the Indian Army, with 50 per cent indigenous content.
IRRPL CEO and MD Major General SK Sharma on Thursday said, "We will deliver the first 100 per cent indigenised AK-203 rifle on December 31, 2025."
Another batch of 70,000 rifles will be supplied in the next five months, he said, adding that they will have 70 percent indigenous content.
"The IRRPL will supply all the rifles by mid 2030, 22 months earlier than the scheduled delivery," he added.
As reported earlier by The New Indian Express, the AK-203 rifles would replace the ageing Indian Small Arms System (INSAS). A contract for procurement of 6,01,427 AK-203 rifles, worth Rs 5,200 crore, was signed in December 2021 between the Ministry of Defence and IRRPL -- a joint venture between India, represented by the Defence PSUs-Advanced Weapons & Equipment India Limited (AWEIL) and Munitions India Limited (MIL), and Russia, represented by Rosoboronexport (RoE) & Concern Kalashnikov (CK), holding a stake of 50.5% and 49.5% respectively.

Unlike earlier arrangements where only a limited number of seats were allotted, the new modules accommodate larger contingents, reflecting growing synergy between the two forces and the national imperative of securing high-value assets. The training initiative aligns with the CISF's vision of rapid, precise, and composed response to complex threats at high-risk installations including airports, nuclear plants, government buildings, and the Parliament. The personnel have been trained to handle scenarios such as drone incursions, coordinated terror strikes, insider threats, and sabotage attempts. Live Events The joint training modules included night operations, jungle warfare, close-combat tactics, and endurance-building drills, designed to complement CISF's strong urban counter-threat experience with skills to operate in diverse and high-intensity environments. The trainees selected for this high-intensity program are members of the CISF's Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), the frontline responders across its 369 units. Only personnel under 35 years of age and those who have successfully cleared the Battle Physical Efficiency Test (BPET) benchmarked to National Security Guard (NSG) standards were eligible. Before joining the Army-led exercises, these personnel also completed a stringent six-month in-house training program conducted by the CISF, reinforcing their readiness for real-world scenarios. Expanding Scope of Tactical Excellence Going forward, CISF plans to extend this advanced training framework to more units, prioritising those deployed at the country's most sensitive and high-risk installations. Himachal Pradesh HC grants bail to man accused of sharing derogatory videos about PM Modi, Army
The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Tuesday granted bail to a man who was arrested in May for sharing videos on Facebook that made allegedly derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian Army. The court said that while the videos may have been in bad taste, they would not 'incite any person to violence or create disturbance in public peace'. Justice Rakesh Kainthla said that on a preliminary reading, it was 'highly doubtful' whether Sections 152 and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deal with sedition and promoting enmity between groups, were applicable in this case. The man, Farooq Ahmad, was arrested on May 9 on charges of sedition, promoting enmity between groups and making assertions against national integrity, Live Law reported. The prosecution alleged that Ahmad shared content online that was deemed to be anti-national and against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which had hurt the sentiments of common people. The police also alleged that one video featured a Pakistani citizen making insulting comments about Modi, while another clip from a Pakistani news channel contained derogatory remarks about the Indian Army. However, the court said that the investigation had not shown any evidence that Ahmad's posts incited violence or disturbed public peace. The court also took into account that Ahmad's mobile phone had already been seized and sent for forensic examination, and that the prosecution was yet to obtain the required sanction for the trial to proceed.
