According to social media (and many Gen X and Boomers who live here), there is a yearning for the glory days of old New York. In the bygone era, many attributes were the sort of magical connections that took place in IRL and were not masterminded in boardrooms or via digital platforms. Instead, these kismet moments happened when creative worlds collided while out and about, most likely in New York's social scene. A meeting such as this was the genesis for a new eyewear collaboration between Selima Optique and ZANKOV.
That's how the collaboration between these two creatives happened. It was while both were dining at the classic eatery Il Buco, a NoHo staple since 1994 and just down the street from Selima Optique, which opened in 1993. The eyewear institution Selima Salaun is also a bit of a NoHo fixture, and spotted Henry Zankov dining in the restaurant. Curious by nature, the optical entrepreneur approached the fashion designer she had seen around town and introduced herself. It turned out that Zankov was also a fan of Selima's work. The bond over the mutual love of fashion was instant. Several chance meetings followed; thus, the pair was certain it was fate that they collaborate creatively.
The result is a three-style limited-edition capsule sunglass collection that 'celebrates the intersection of bold design and effortless elegance, an embodiment of the spirit shared by both,' according to a release. The styles debuted with the Spring 2025 ZANKOV collection and hit retail distribution this week.

From a starting point of styles core to Selima Optique's oeuvre—the Aleksandr, a bold square acetate frame with dynamic color contrasts between the face and arms; the Toni, an aviator style with a lightweight metal frame, inspired by the eyewear worn by Italian police in the 1970s and the Carolyn, a minimalist classic inspired by Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy—Zankov applied his strong color combos in bright hues to the frames. This is especially prominent in the Aleksandr and Carolyn styles, which demonstrate Zankov's bold color aesthetic. Nary, a pair of black frames is found in this collection. Instead, frames in hues such as red and lavender, navy, royal blue and Electric yellow, Carrot orange, and Capri Blue prevail.
The sunglasses are available at Bergdorf Goodman and Selima Optique. The duo hosted a party at Selima Optique at 7 Bond Street to fete the new partnership.

Morgan Stanley Sees Dollar Falling 9% on Slowing US Growth Bets

The dollar will tumble to levels last seen during the Covid-19 pandemic by the middle of next year, hit by interest rate cuts and slowing growth, according to predictions by Morgan Stanley. A popular gauge of the dollar will fall around 9% from current levels by around this time next year, strategists including Matthew Hornbach predicted in a May 31 note. That will exacerbate a recent decline in the greenback, as trade turmoil weighs on the currency.

San Joaquin County Fair attendance takes a hit during first 100 degree days of the year

STOCKTON – With the heat, people still hit the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds for the annual fair, but it came with its challenges to keep people under shade and out of the high temperatures. A highly anticipated weekend here at the fairgrounds was interrupted by the heat. With triple digits the first two days, the fair says it hurt attendance. But Sunday's cooler 90-degree day helped pick things up. "We have our sunscreen, our hats, our sunglasses, we're gonna stay hydrated. Yeah, we know," a couple said. "We're here for the whole vibe of it all." They chose this Sunday after seeing the high temperatures on Friday and Saturday. "This heat spike out of nowhere, we thought about adjusting time, but once we're out [with our] promotion, we have to stick with it," said Daniel Castillo, CEO of the fairgrounds. Castillo said he and his crew worked hard even during the high temperatures to make things work, but attendance took a hit. "Friday matched up to Friday last year, which was good. Saturday was definitely a lot less," he said. "We totally understand why people would stay away, however, Sunday is always a big day." People are using anything they can to stay cool by staying put in the shade or grabbing a drink from vendors. "We were here since 8 in the morning. It's a good spot! We're here at the entrance, and we're hoping for success," said Henry Luis Gallardo, a vendor of aguas frescas and tostilocos. The lower attendance is not making it as busy as usual for Gallardo and his workers. "The truth, it was a little low Saturday. But today, we're hoping it's going to be a good day for us," said Gallardo. The fair said they'll have attendance numbers for the whole weekend on Monday.

'It Won't Be China That Takes Control — It'll Be Musk': Enrique Abeyta Says Trump's AI Order Hands Elon the Reins of America's Machine Future

WASHINGTON, June 01, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Most headlines worry about foreign AI dominance. But former hedge fund manager Enrique Abeyta sees a different threat rising from within. Abeyta explains in his recent briefing that with Elon Musk's AI supercomputer Dojo accelerating toward national rollout — and President Trump's executive order removing the last legal barriers — Abeyta warns: 'It won't be China that runs the machine economy. It'll be Musk.' 'Trump just ensured Dojo stays American. But in the process, he handed Musk the keys.' Domestic Superpower: What Musk Built Dojo isn't just a chip or a data project. It's a complete, real-time AI system that's: Trained on 160 billion frames of daily real-world video Built on a proprietary chip 6x faster than Nvidia's top processor Designed to control machines in motion — not simulations Tesla's next step? The June 1st launch of a fully autonomous robotaxi — no pedals, no steering wheel, no driver. Trump's Order Removes the Last Obstacle President Trump's 'Removing Barriers to American AI Innovation' executive order gives domestic AI leaders unprecedented freedom to develop and deploy systems like Dojo without traditional oversight. One key partner in Musk's AI ecosystem is already 'expecting to receive billions of dollars from the Trump administration.' The stated goal: outpace China. The result? Musk now operates the fastest, most government-aligned AI infrastructure in the country. About Enrique Abeyta Enrique Abeyta is a former hedge fund manager who tracked high-level capital movements and strategic shifts across markets, infrastructure, and policy. After managing nearly $4 billion in institutional capital, he now leads Breaking Profits, a research platform dedicated to exposing the next generation of power systems shaping America's future.
