AKA & Tibz murder trial dates revealed amid courtroom drama
The five men arrested in connection with the murders appeared in the Durban High Court on Wednesday, 13 August.
Award-winning musician AKA and his friend, celebrity chef Tibz, were shot and killed outside a restaurant on Durban's Florida Road in 2023.
KwaZulu-Natal National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said the matter was postponed to allow the parties to address outstanding pre-trial issues. A trial judge must still be appointed.
'The trial dates are 20 July to 21 August 2026, and 5 October to 6 November 2026,' said Ramkisson-Kara.
Proceedings saw some drama earlier in the day when Judge Jacqueline Henriques reprimanded both the state and defence for the slow pace of the pre-trial process. As a result, the case was not certified as trial-ready.
Henriques also called out the state for failing to share documents with the defence, including witness statements. Defence counsel Advocate Simphiwe Mlotshwa also indicated he was considering an application to compel the state to disclose witness statements. According to TimesLIVE , the state is expected to call 45 witnesses.
The case was postponed to 19 June 2026.
The accused – Lindokuhle Thabani Mkhwanazi, Lindani Zenzele Ndimande, Siyanda Eddie Myeza, Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni, and Lindokuhle Lindo Ndimande – are aged between 21 and 36.
Two other accused remain in custody in Eswatini. They face multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of murder, attempted murder, and firearm- and ammunition-related offences.

Muizenberg mass murders: At least seven killed within three days
Police have launched an investigation following the gruesome discovery of three bodies following a mass shooting in Muizenberg, Western Cape. The bodies of one male and two females, aged between 29 and 32 were discovered at Mike Place, Xakabantu in Muizenberg on Saturday at around 23:30. 15-year-old learner arrested after stabbing schoolmate in KZN
A 15-year-old learner was arrested after stabbing his schoolmate in KwaMhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), on Thursday, 14 August 2025. Police received a call about a student who was stabbed and needed an ambulance. They immediately rushed to the school and found the victim lying face up with a stab wound on his left chest. The fight commenced after school between the two learners and proceeded to the street next to the school, where the suspect took out a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest. The suspect fled the scene and was traced to his residence, where he was arrested. The knife used to carry out the murder was found in the possession of the suspect's friend, who was taken in for further questioning. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) confirmed the death of the student. Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane confirmed to The South African that the cause of the fight is unknown yet. Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr)Zeph Mkhwanazi, expressed concern about youth violence. He said, 'It is heartbreaking that such a tragic incident involved children. Learners should be focused on their studies, not violence. We urge parents, schools, and communities to work together to address the root cause of youth violence.' A man was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting a 37-year-old man. The suspect accused the victim of stealing his cell phone before assaulting and forcing him into the boot. Community members recalled seeing the 49-year-old suspect driving a white Mercedes-Benz sedan forcing someone into the boot of the car at Naledi Mall, Phuthaditjhaba. Investigations led the police to a house in Phuthaditjhaba, where they found the vehicle parked in the yard. The police then instructed the suspect to open the boot, where they discovered the victim. 'Police discovered the alleged victim with visible injuries, including an open wound to his right cheek and lower lip,' read the police statement. The victim was rushed to the hospital for further treatment. A case of kidnapping and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm is under investigation. Scores of motorists arrested in KwaZulu-Natal road safety blitz
AN OFFICER from the KwaZulu-Natal Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) puts handcuffs on one of the motorists who were arrested in last night's road safety blitz for various violations ranging from driving under the influence of alcohol and illegal possession of firearms. A late-night road safety blitz led by the KwaZulu-Natal Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) resulted in the arrest of scores of motorists for various violations ranging from drunk driving to possession of illegal firearms. The multi-disciplinary operation, commanded by a senior female officer and supported largely by women law enforcement officials, ran from last night into the early hours of the morning. It involved RTI officers working in partnership with the South African Police Service, Metro Police, and municipal traffic authorities. Transport MEC Siboniso Duma praised the women-led team, saying they embodied the 'No-Nonsense, Zero Tolerance and Alufakwa' campaign aimed at restoring discipline on the province's roads. 'Our RTI team, together with SAPS and other traffic agencies, successfully arrested motorists for a range of violations,' said Duma. The charges include: -Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs; -Possession of drugs and illegal firearms; -Driving suspected stolen vehicles; -Outstanding warrants of arrest. Duma said the crackdown was necessary in light of the rising number of road accidents, particularly around paydays. 'During the first week of August alone, we lost more than 30 people on our roads,' he said. 'We have observed that accidents spike at the end of the month, on the 15th, and the 25th, when people are paid and are more likely to be out, increasing traffic and pedestrian activity.' The MEC reiterated that law enforcement would continue to adopt a strict stance on lawless driving and crime on the province's roads. 'It is for these reasons I have mandated our team to maintain a No-Nonsense, Zero Tolerance and Alufakwa posture,' said Duma.
