Kuwaiti Man Sentenced to 12 Years for Attacking Officer with Katana
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 16: The Criminal Court has sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to 12 years in prison after finding him guilty of assaulting a security officer, severely injuring him with a Katana (Japanese sword), and illegally possessing narcotics and firearms, including a Kalashnikov rifle, pistols, and ammunition.
The attack resulted in the officer sustaining deep cuts to four tendons in his hand. The plaintiff's lawyer, Abdul Mohsen Al-Qattan, who represented the injured security officer in the civil case, demanded compensation of 5,001 Kuwaiti dinars. He argued that the crime met the legal criteria for attempted murder.
According to the Public Prosecution, the defendant deliberately attempted to kill a first sergeant in the Ministry of Interior. He initially tried to grab a loaded pistol from the officer's desk, but members of the investigation squad intervened, preventing him from obtaining the weapon. Frustrated, the accused then reached for a sword mounted on the wall behind the desk, declaring, "Today, I am either a slaughterer or the slaughtered." He then attacked the officer, inflicting multiple injuries with the clear intent to kill. However, he failed to complete the act due to the intervention of other security personnel. The prosecution also charged him with possession of the narcotic substance hashish.
