Marvel Star, 46, Jokes He Made Ron Howard Famous: 'Secret Sauce'
Marvel star Anthony Mackie jokingly said that he made Ron Howard famous after the they both earned Emmy nominations in the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category for their work in The Studio.
Mackie, 46, reflected on learning about his nomination when he appeared on the Wednesday, July 23, episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
'I'm on set… and I look over and everybody's like 'Congratulations!' And I was like, 'Oh, what white dude got nominated?' 'Cause I'm the white dude legend when it comes to nominations and wins,' Mackie said. 'So, I made Ryan Gosling famous. I made Jeremy Renner famous. I made Bryan Cranston famous."
Mackie jokingly added, 'I made now Ron Howard famous. I'm like, if you want to get nominated, I'm the dude. You know what I mean?'

The Captain America: Brave New World actor was seemingly referring to the other projects he's been part of that his co-stars earned major nominations for. Mackie starred alongside Gosling, 44, in the 2006 film Half Nelson, which earned Gosling a Best Actor nomination at the Oscars. He also appeared alongside Renner, 54, in 2008's The Hurt Locker and Cranston, 69, in 2016's All the Way, which earned his co-stars Oscar and Emmy nods.
Meanwhile, Howard, 71, earned his first acting Emmy nomination for The Studio.
'I am the secret sauce. I am the jelly in the donut you know what I'm saying?' Mackie said.
Mackie and Howard are up against The Studio's Cranston, Dave Franco and Martin Scorsese and The Bear's Jon Bernthal in the category at the 2025 Emmys.
'So the way I look at it, I'm very honored and proud to be nominated,' Mackie said. He then noted that "the reality of it is" that he's "excited" to be in "second place."
'Because you know it's Ron Howard, and it's Scorsese," Mackie said. "So one of them are going to take it, but they're going to take votes from the other person. So I'm going to be in second.'
Mackie added that he doesn't care about winning. "Who cares about … Winning is being nominated against Scorsese and Ron Howard … Because one of them is going to have to say, 'Damn I lost to Anthony Mackie,'" he said.

Paula Deen abruptly closes restaurant that launched her to celebrity chef status
In the late 1990s, Paula Deen was an independent restaurateur whose family-operated restaurant had just received a glowing review from USA Today. Her life and career were permanently changed. Now, over 25 years later, the Georgia native has announced the closing of the Lady and Sons — the iconic restaurant that made her a star of Southern cuisine and a household name in the cooking world. Opened in downtown Savannah, Ga., in 1996, the Lady and Sons boasted a menu of local classics like fried green tomatoes, banana pudding and hoecakes. The signature dish, Southern fried chicken, was enough to draw lines wrapping around the block — and the restaurant came to be viewed as an embodiment of the indulgent and buttery flavors that characterize Southern cooking. 'There in Savannah, Paula Deen's homestyle Southern menu at the Lady and Sons turned me into a ravenous beast, unmindful of manners, cholesterol, North-South diplomacy and the dropped jaws of my companions,' USA Today, then the nation's most-read daily newspaper, wrote on Dec. 17, 1999. Earlier that year, the popularity of the Lady and Sons caught the attention of Food Network journalist Gordon Elliott. Deen appeared on Elliott's short-lived show 'Door Knock Dinners' that led to her own Daytime Emmy-winning Food Network program, 'Paula's Home Cooking.' On her website and social media accounts, Deen bid farewell to the Lady and Sons and its longtime fans. Also closing is her newer restaurant, the Chicken Box, which opened in 2023. 'Hey, y'all, my sons and I made the heartfelt decision that Thursday, July 31st, was the last day of service for The Lady & Sons and The Chicken Box,' Deen said in the statement. 'We will now focus our attention on the four Paula Deen's Family Kitchen locations across the country.' The announcement came without warning, especially as the restaurant continued to draw tours and lines of customers. Three weeks prior to the announcement, the Lady and Sons posted on Instagram that it was hiring for all positions. Over the years, some of Deen's other restaurants have also closed suddenly. In 2014, employees at Uncle Bubba's Seafood and Oyster House — a Savannah eatery she co-owned with her brother, Earl W. 'Bubba' Hiers Jr. — reportedly arrived to work to find the doors locked and the appliances removed. A sign on the door said, 'Thank you for 10 great years. Uncle Bubba's is now closed.' The Panama City, Fla., location of Paula Deen's Family Kitchen also closed abruptly in 2019, laying off 30 employees without advance notice. Several former employees told local news channel WJHG that they were left without their main source of income following the closure. Uncle Bubba's closure came a year after controversy began to surround Deen after a former manager at the restaurant sued Hiers, alleging sexual and racial discrimination. Food Network canceled 'Paula's Home Cooking' after Deen admitted to using a racial slur during a deposition for the 2013 lawsuit. Lawyers asked Deen if she had ever used the N-word, to which Deen replied, 'Yes, of course,' later adding, 'It's been a very long time.' Since then, the 78-year-old has focused on her restaurants. The Lady and Sons, as her core establishment, was the result of a litany of personal struggles and ambition. Both of her parents passed away when she was in her early 20s and Deen, then a young mother, struggled with depression and agoraphobia, or fear of going outside. With only $200 left, Deen founded a catering company out of her kitchen called the Bag Lady. Her handmade bag lunches were delivered by her sons Jamie and Bobby and earned Deen a local reputation for her homestyle cooking. After one attempt at a restaurant, the Lady in 1991, the follow-up, the Lady and Sons, co-owned with Jamie and Bobby, would be her success.

It's official — The Hulk will return in Spider-Man 4
Mark Ruffalo is making a long awaited return to the Marvel Universe with his old friend Spidey. According to a new Hollywood Reporter article, the big green guy is coming back in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Ruffalo will be reprising his role as Bruce Banner aka The Hulk in the next Tom Holland flick. Outside of a few episodes of the animated Marvel "What if...?" episodes, this will be the first live action Hulk appearance since the 2022 "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law" show on Disney Plus. Ruffalo's last Marvel movie appearance was a brief cameo in "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" in 2021. Production of the latest Spider-Man movie is supposed to begin at the end of this month in the United Kingdom. Additionally, the article claims that Michael Mando, formerly of "Better Call Saul," will be returning as the Scorpion, which he first played in 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming, the first Holland Spider-Man movie. Perhaps its not surprising that Ruffalo will be in the new Spider-Man, as the previous trio had a habit of pairing Tom Holland with a seasoned Marvel actor; Robert Downey Jr. (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Samuel L. Jackson (Spider-Man: Far From Home) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Spider-Man: No Way Home). In addition to Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal will reportedly reprise his role as The Punisher, the character's first appearance in the MCU outside of the Netflix superhero shows. So far, all we know about the plot is that someone will pull strings inducing Hulk, Punisher, and Spider-man into fighting one another. Lego's August Releases Are Going Merry
Lego usually has quiet months and big months in terms of releases, but by far and away the two most important times of the year for Lego—and most threatening for your wallet as a Lego fan—are the start of it in January and the height of summer in August. The latter is finally here, and Lego has a lot of options for if you want to beat the heat by staying inside and building bricks. A lot of options. With dozens upon dozens upon dozens of new sets arriving today, it's hard to really break down particular highlights, with almost every major Lego line getting at least a couple of releases, alongside stalwarts like Marvel and Star Wars getting massive new waves. There are even a few entirely new lines making their debut amid the mania too, like the highly anticipated arrival of Lego One Piece, inspired by the Netflix adaptation. Check out all those, and more, in our roundup of the most interesting sets arriving this month! Lego has a few Technic sets out this month, but the standout in our genre-nerd eyes has to be this amazing rover set, inspired by the fabled Lego Space line. The kit comes with a primary moon rover, as well as smaller builds for a mining rover and MAPP rover, and some moon rocks they can collect into a sample container. ($100, available here). The multibuild creator sets are always an opportunity to sneak in some nods to other Lego lines, and August's offerings include a pretty fun new Lego Castle set for any medieval fantasy fans (introducing a new faction) and a cutie-spooky Monster Fighters homage in the Haunted Mansion. But then, consider this! There is also Beautiful Horse. Its beauty is, perhaps, in the eye of the beholder. Inspired by the first season of the Netflix live-action adaptation of the seminal anime and manga, Lego is going all out for the debut of One Piece as a line, right in time for the excitement around season two. From small sets to massive adult-focused kits like the Baratie, there's something for every fan of the show here—but of course the highlight has to be the Going Merry, which comes with the complete (up to this point in the series) Straw Hat crew in one place. Speaking of Netflix shows gearing up for season two! Just in time for the first volume of Wednesday's return to hit the streamer next week, Lego has concocted a buildable black dahlia flower, complete with minidolls of Wednesday and Professor Thornhill. ($28, available here). It's a big Spider-Man wave for Lego Marvel in August, but there are some more Avenging sets around, like sets inspired by Iron Man 2 and Endgame. That doesn't stop the webslinger from taking the prize, though, in the form of a subway train set inspired by the classic one Lego released for Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2. The Mario line has been on a bit of a karting kick lately, and August is no exception. But not every set is about that kart life: we get a couple of fun Toad buildable sets, including one inspired by Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. The first Decepticon to join the Lego Transformers line, Soundwave can transform between robot and cassette player mode and comes with buildable (and similarly transforming) Ravage and Laserbeak minions that can sit in his tape deck. He even plays sounds from a special brick built into his torso unit! ($190, available here) Away from the glow of the movie release, things are back to normal for Lego Minecraft, which offers a special piece of gaming advice this month: maybe don't build your house out of TNT. It's a very big and very expensive month for Star Wars fans with an eclectic mix of sets on offer—from a tease of the next Lego Star Wars animated adventure to a new UCS AT-ST and even some buildable characters in the form of K-2SO and Wicket. This cute gaming model replicates a classic arcade machine, which in itself hides a little gamer cave for the included minifigure to hang out in. ($40, available here). There are still a few more villagers and locales Nintendo and Lego can add to your islands this month, including Blathers' museum! Metal Sonic strikes in the handful of Sonic sets we get this month, which splits Knuckles, Sonic, and Tails across two different villainous battles. Cultural reappraisals aside, one thing that's always been beloved about Batman Forever is its slick Batmobile, which Lego is wonderfully recreating in this new display model—complete with a minifigure Batman inspired by the film's Sonar Batsuit.
