Zheng Qinwen eyes improvement in 2025, starting with Italian Open
China's Zheng Qinwen said she needed to rediscover 'the feeling of the game' to progress in the Italian Open, which starts on Wednesday.

The Olympic champion's year has been blighted by an elbow injury, while she crashed out of last month's Madrid Open in the second following a disappointing defeat against world No 34 Anastasia Potapova.
Seeded eighth in Rome, which is a Masters 1000 event, the 22-year-old's tournament starts in the second round on Friday.
'The worst point [of my injury] started during the semi-final [of the WTA Finals] in Riyadh, because I then spent the entire off-season recovering my elbow and didn't train enough,' Zheng told Chinese state media.
'So, because I didn't train, my results were definitely not as good as expected. But now, my elbow is not one of my main problems, I have to get back to the state of the competition, the feeling of the game, and fight one match at a time, just like when I had nothing.'

Her shock loss to Potapova came shortly after she had appeared to recover her form, having reached the quarter-finals of the Charleston Open, the Miami Open and Indian Wells.

Glory night for Hong Kong football must be start of something special
Every new sports arena, no matter how impressive, needs to bear witness to memorable events to become an iconic venue revered by fans. On Tuesday night, Hong Kong's Kai Tak Stadium played host to such an occasion. The city's football team snatched a dramatic last-gasp victory over India in a crucial match, cheered on by more than 42,000 ecstatic fans. As Hong Kong's head coach Ashley Westwood said, it will be talked about for years to come. But there is still work to be done. Advertisement The atmosphere was of a kind rarely seen at football matches in the city. The aim must be to ensure that the victory – and the celebrations accompanying it – are not a one-off. It should be the start of something special. Westwood has come under fire from fans. His name was booed before the match kicked off. Supporters have taken issue with his team selection, objecting to a perceived preference for naturalised players, as well as a recent goal drought. The coach has, however, led the team on a run of 10 successive international games without defeat. Most wins have been against lower-ranked opponents. But the dramatic victory over India, who were 53 places higher than Hong Kong in the global ratings going into the game, puts the city's team in a strong position to qualify for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup finals. They deserve support as they seek to reap the rewards of recent results. Hong Kong competed in the finals last year for the first time in more than half a century. The qualifying campaign will resume in October. Advertisement Hong Kong football needs all the backing it can get. The domestic game does not receive enough sponsorship or interest from fans. The local Premier League struggles to attract top players and attendances are low.

Coach Kwok from TV show ‘Goal to Success' seeks same impact in Macau football
While Hong Kong were busy hosting Manchester United and beating India in their Kai Tak Stadium debut, neighbours Macau have been stepping up their quest for international relevance under their Hongkonger coach Kenneth Kwok Kar-lok. Kwok is a familiar face in many households after starring in recent Viu TV reality show Goal to Success, in which he built a competitive team from a group of women with no football experience. But the former Hong Kong under-23 and Tai Po boss is attempting another transformation, in Macanese men's football. His first task upon taking over last November was to secure more high-level match experience for his entirely amateur squad. Before this month's two closed-door friendlies away to Chinese Taipei, their only outing this year had been a 2-0 defeat by Hong Kong in March.
