Polling officials involved in Bihar electoral roll revision to get Rs 6,000 honorarium

Patna (Bihar) : The ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign of the electoral rolls in Bihar is progressing rapidly and recognizing the efforts of the Polling station officials, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar has announced a special incentive of Rs 6,000 for each.
Apart from this, SIR in Bihar is underway in full swing with the Booth Level Officers (BLOs), BLO Supervisors, all the election officials, BLAs appointed by the political parties and the volunteers working tirelessly at the grassroots level to ensure that no eligible elector is left out, according to a press release by the Election Commission of India's (ECI).
As per the release, as of July 5 at 6.00 PM, 1,04,16 545 Enumeration Forms, i.e. 13.19 per cent of the total of 7,89,69,844 (nearly 7.90 crore) electors in Bihar who are enrolled as of June 24, 2025, have been received.
The percentage of forms distributed has also increased to 93.57 per cent, with 7,38,89,333 forms already distributed. 77,895 BLOs are going house-to-house to help the electors fill out their Enumeration Forms and collect them.
In a large number of cases, the BLOs are taking live pictures of the electors and uploading them, saving the electors the trouble of getting their pictures taken. The partially filled forms are also available for download on the ECI portal (https://voters.eci.gov.in) as well as on the ECINET App, and the filled forms can be uploaded by the elector themselves on the ECINET App.
Additionally, 20,603 BLOs are being appointed for the smooth and timely completion of the process. Nearly 4 lakh volunteers, including government officials, NCC cadets, NSS members, etc., are also working in the field to facilitate the elderly, PwDs, sick and vulnerable populations in the SIR process.
Besides, 239 EROs, 963 AEROs, 38 DEOs and the CEO of the state are at the ground level to facilitate the electors to submit their forms. 1,54,977 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by various political parties are also providing active support in the SIR process, as per the release.

New two-lane bridge near Mujpur village in 18 months, Gujarat govt starts process
The Gujarat government has started the process to build a new two-lane high level bridge on Mahi river near Mujpur village in Vadodara district's Padra taluka at a cost of Rs 212 crore, stated an official release on Sunday. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel had given an in-principle approval to build the bridge in November 2024 and the tendering process has begun to build the bridge in 18 months, the release added. The new bridge, which will connect Padra to Anklav, will stand parallel to the recently collapsed bridge in which at least 20 people were killed. The government on Sunday also said that it has disbursed financial aid to the victims and the relatives of the deceased in the bridge collapse incident. Meanwhile search continued for the fifth day for 22-year-old Vikram Padhiyar from Narsingpura village of Anklav taluka who was on his way to Padra town with his friend Rajesh Chavda, where both worked in an electrical unit when their motorbike fell off the broken bridge. Chavda's body has been found while there is no trace of Padhiyar yet. The release stated, 'A detailed project report was recently prepared by the Roads & Buildings Department after conducting a survey. And it was given an in-principle approval by the Chief Minister.' 'During this time, owing to the bridge collapse accident, issues of connecting central Gujarat with Saurashtra, employment of locals and commuting of students had cropped up. In view of that, the CM has given instructions to immediately build the bridge,' it also stated. As explained by Superintending Engineer of the Roads and Buildings Department, N V Rathva, the existing two-lane Mujpur approach road will be widened to a 7-metre four-lane road, the release stated. The 4.2 km stretch from the highway to the bridge will also be expanded to four lanes. The state government also said that it disbursed financial aid worth Rs 62 lakh to families of the deceased and the victims of the Gambhira bridge collapse. An official release by the government read: 'The State Government…has extended compassionate support to the families affected and injured in the Mujpur-Gambhira bridge accident. As part of the announced financial assistance, cheques totalling Rs 62 lakh were distributed today. This includes Rs 4 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured, handed over by MP Jasubhai Rathva and MLA Shri Chaitanyasinh Zala.' It added, 'Considering the seriousness of the incident, this aid was approved immediately and disbursed without delay. As per the current list, cheques totaling Rs 62 lakh have been distributed, covering four injured individuals and the families of 15 deceased.' With the state authorities having confirmed 20 deaths, one person, identified as Vikram Padhiyar, remained missing as on Sunday. Padhiyar had set out on a motorbike with his cousin Rajesh Chavda to their workplace in Padra. Chavda's body was found. Following the tragedy, four engineers of the Roads and Buildings Department were suspended.

Lad criticises GST burden on poor, questions central govt policies
Chitradurga: Labour minister Santosh Lad strongly criticised the central govt's GST implementation. He mentioned that 103 individuals lost their lives during the note exchange, an issue that remained unaddressed. He cited that high-denomination notes initially totalled Rs 26,000 crore, now reaching Rs 1.2 lakh crore according to RBI reports. CM asks officials to expedite work on Bakhtiyarpur-Tajpur bridge
Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Sunday inspected the site of Bakhtiyarpur-Tajpur bridge over the Ganga river and reviewed the progress of the ongoing construction work. He instructed officials concerned to complete the work at the earliest. During the inspection, road construction department secretary Sandeep Kumar R Pudakalkatti informed the CM through the site plan that approximately 60% of the construction work on the greenfield bridge, which is 5.5 km-long, has been completed. Earlier, accompanied by the senior officials, Nitish reached the bridge's construction site, travelling from Karjan (on the Bakhtiyarpur-Mokama four-lane bypass) in Athmalgola block through Kalyanpur to the banks of the Ganga river. The CM inquired in details from the officials regarding the progress and the current status of the bridge construction. Nitish asked the officials to expedite the construction work of the bridge and complete it soon. "This bridge will be crucial in facilitating connectivity between north and south Bihar, easing the movement of the general public.
