Oklahoma Sooners offer transfer portal wide receiver out of Louisiana
The Oklahoma Sooners haven't been shy about their desire to improve the roster in the spring transfer portal window. They've added offensive lineman Jake Maikkula, running back Jaydn Ott, and on Tuesday evening, earned a commitment from defensive tackle Siolaa Ricky Lolohea.
But one position of need that they haven't been able to address yet is wide receiver. The Sooners have been connected to several players but haven't been able to earn a commitment to address the position. Late on Tuesday evening the Sooners issued an offer to McNeese State transfer wide receiver Jer'Michael Carter.
Carter was an unranked prospect coming out of high school and played two seasons at McNeese State. In 2024, he led the Cowboys with 37 receptions for 537 yards and three touchdowns. Carter accounted for 22% of the passing yardage a season ago.
Out of Kentwood, Louisiana, Carter has the size and production to make the jump to the SEC. He stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 192 pounds. He entered the portal on April 21 and is already garnering attention from programs across the country. According to Carter's X account, he's received interest from Utah, Colorado State, Vanderbilt, Baylor, UConn, Oklahoma, and West Virginia.
Given the interest already, you can expect his list of offers to continue to grow.
Carter could be the answer to the Sooners injury issues on the outside. Jayden Gibson suffered a setback from his ACL recovery early in spring ball. Incoming transfer Javonnie Gibson then suffered an injury that will keep him out until close to the start of the season.
The Sooners have Keontez Lewis, Zion Kearney, Ivan Carreon, Elijah Thomas, and Emmanuel Choice as options on the outside but if they're looking for some collegiate production to solidify the group, Carter could be the answer.

While most of the former head coach Buzz Williams' 2024 coaching staff is expected to join Maryland, one key assistant will reportedly stay in College Station under McMillan. According to Texas A&M's media team, Shane Sinon, one of the lesser-known names on the coaching staff, who served as a graduate assistant under Williams last season, will now serve as McMillan's Assistant Director of Operations. According to Jaxson Callaway (AggiesToday), Sinon served as Buzz Williams' day-to-day assistant, also assisting in traveling and inventory for the program last season. Sinon appears to be a rising star in the coaching ranks and will serve under current Director of Operations Warren Fitzpatrick, assisting with team operations that include recruiting, finances, and media-based situations. This will likely finish out Texas A&M's 2025 basketball staff, which Bucky McMillan will rely on during his inaugural season and beyond. Oklahoma Sooners earn commitment from 2026 3-star DE Matthew Nelson The Oklahoma Sooners added another intriguing defensive prospect in the 2026 recruiting class with the commitment of defensive end Matthew Nelson. Nelson is the eighth player committed to the Sooners 2026 class and the fourth player on the defensive side of the ball. Just a few weeks ago, Brent Venables and the Sooners didn't have a player committed on defense. Venables and Jim Nagy have the ball rolling. Nelson received his Oklahoma offer back at the beginning of May, and not long after that, the Bryant, Arkansas product picked up offers from Mississippi State and Missouri. But the Sooners made a strong first impression and had him on campus this past weekend for his official visit. Despite an official visit with Tulane coming next week, he's pulled the trigger on committing to the Oklahoma Sooners. He's the second defensive line prospect added to the class, joining four-star defensive tackle Brian Harris. After flying under the radar through his junior year, Nelson's recruitment began to heat up, and he's now considered a three-star prospect, according to Rivals. Nelson's length and his athleticism really stand out on tape. He displays fantastic effort working to the ball carrier even when the play runs away from him. Nelson displays great discipline, setting the edge. He plays with good power, showing the ability to pull offensive tackles off balance to get around them and to the quarterback. Nelson's quick off the line of scrimmage and plays with good leverage. He'll need to continue to add mass, but he has the frame to be able to bulk up and keep his athleticism and quickness.
