Oklahoma Sooners earn commitment from 2026 3-star DE Matthew Nelson
The Oklahoma Sooners added another intriguing defensive prospect in the 2026 recruiting class with the commitment of defensive end Matthew Nelson. Nelson is the eighth player committed to the Sooners 2026 class and the fourth player on the defensive side of the ball.
Just a few weeks ago, Brent Venables and the Sooners didn't have a player committed on defense. Venables and Jim Nagy have the ball rolling.
Nelson received his Oklahoma offer back at the beginning of May, and not long after that, the Bryant, Arkansas product picked up offers from Mississippi State and Missouri. But the Sooners made a strong first impression and had him on campus this past weekend for his official visit. Despite an official visit with Tulane coming next week, he's pulled the trigger on committing to the Oklahoma Sooners.
"After long and careful consideration, I'm officially shutting down my recruiting process," Nelson said on social media. "I have been blessed to be able to experience it, and I wouldn't want it to be any other way. Go Sooners!!
He's the second defensive line prospect added to the class, joining four-star defensive tackle Brian Harris. After flying under the radar through his junior year, Nelson's recruitment began to heat up, and he's now considered a three-star prospect, according to Rivals.
Nelson's length and his athleticism really stand out on tape. He displays fantastic effort working to the ball carrier even when the play runs away from him. Nelson displays great discipline, setting the edge. He plays with good power, showing the ability to pull offensive tackles off balance to get around them and to the quarterback. Nelson's quick off the line of scrimmage and plays with good leverage.
He'll need to continue to add mass, but he has the frame to be able to bulk up and keep his athleticism and quickness. However, the Oklahoma Sooners added a good player in Matthew Nelson.

Bill Belichick speaks to media on UNC's improvements during spring practices
Bill Belichick speaks to media on UNC's improvements during spring practices Bill Belichick likes his players' improvement over UNC's spring football practices. The highly-anticipated, 2025 college football season will begin in just two months, with the North Carolina Tar Heels expected to continue attracting plenty of attention. Hoping to escape a decade-long slump of mediocrity, UNC hired 8-time Super Bowl Champion Bill Belichick to be its next head football coach. Despite his endless success at the professional level, Belichick is a first-time college coach, so the questioning is understandable. Belichick quickly proved he can thrive outside of the NFL, landing North Carolina numerous commitments in the transfer portal. If you have trouble identifying any of the Tar Heels' 2025 starters, that's because they likely played college ball elsewhere last season. With essentially a brand-new team, it's natural to expect growing pains. According to Belichick, though, his players showed improvement across the board during spring practices. "(There was) better communication, better fundamentals, better understanding of what we're trying to do," Belichick said Tuesday at the Kenan Football Center. "Certainly the conditioning was much better. We practiced at a very high level, similar to what we have done in the past with Moses Cabrera, strength coach, and our offensive and defensive systems and so forth. The players were able to respond to that and maintain not only good health, but a high quality performance. So we didn't run out of gas. We were able to sustain the workload of those practices from our offseason training that started back in January." "We're not going to stop," Belichick continued. "We don't think we're there yet. We're definitely not there. We know we've got a long way to go, but I think these guys have a really good future in front of them, individually and collectively, and it's exciting to see the progress they've made." The first college football game of 2025 will be a 12 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, August 23 between Kansas State and Iowa State, when both programs play in Dublin, Ireland's Aer Lingus Classic. The Tar Heels will play their first game Monday, September 1 at 8 p.m. against TCU, making Belichick's first college game a primetime matchup under the Kenan Stadium lights. Nebraska getting visit from four-star athlete this weekend
Nebraska getting visit from four-star athlete this weekend Class of 2026 four-star athlete Jacob Eberhardt will visit Nebraska this weekend. This was reported by Tim Verghese on Tuesday. Eberhardt is the 216th overall player in the 2026 class, the fourth overall player in the state of Missouri, and the seventh overall player at his position per rankings. He measures in at six-foot-three, 210 pounds. Alabama, Oklahoma, and Missouri are also vying for Eberhardt's services. He has taken one previous visit to Lincoln, doing so on November 2. Currently, the 2026 Nebraska football recruiting class ranks 64th overall with five commitments per Rivals rankings. Eberhardt would be the second blue-chip commitment in the class, and give Nebraska football another talented athlete in the fold. This recruitment has a chance to lean heavily towards Nebraska, and another visit to Lincoln is certainly a step in the right direction for the program. This coaching staff has done well with versatile athletes, and Eberhart could give them another impact player.
