Ireland fightback to defeat Czechia in Portugal: ‘We made life difficult for ourselves'
Having trailed 3-1, an impressive third quarter display saw Ireland take control of the game, with Johnny McKee, Matthew Nelson and a Lee Cole brace giving Ireland a lead that they saw out to secure the win. Ireland dominated possession in the opening minutes, with Matthew Nelson's early effort deflected over the bar by the Czech defenders. McKee earned Ireland the first penalty corner of the match after Louis Rowe did well to release his Banbridge teammate on the break. Cole's effort from the corner was well saved. Czechia, however, drew first blood, breaking the deadlock just before the end of the first quarter, a deft touch in the circle from a crash ball beating Jaime Carr in the Irish net. Czechia added a second to their tally halfway through quarter 2, but Ireland pulled a goal back just before half-time thanks to some individual brilliance from Daragh Walsh. He cut inside from the right-hand side and beat two players before finding McKee on the penalty spot to strike into the back of the net. Czechia's pace on the break continued to cause Ireland problems in the second half, as they won a penalty corner after two minutes, which Ireland did well to defend initially. However, Czechia eventually found the net from the follow-up. Ireland responded immediately, McKee getting his second and a great pass from Matthew Nelson to fire in on his reverse from a tight angle. With the momentum now in their favour, Ireland launched another attack, McKee yet again getting involved with his effort at goal blocked on the line by a Czech body to win Ireland a penalty stroke, which Cole dispatched to draw Ireland level at 3-3. Sean Murray and Matthew Nelson combined to put Ireland ahead for the first time in the game, Murray weaving his way along the baseline and calmly flicking towards goal for Nelson to touch into the net. Ireland pressed immediately from the restart, with Cole eventually winning ball on the edge of the Czech circle and drawing a heavy foul to win a second penalty stroke, which he again dispatched to extend Ireland's lead to 5-3 and that was enough for victory. Speaking after the game, Ireland Head Coach Mark Tumilty said: 'We made that difficult for ourselves today. Any time they got into our circle they looked dangerous. We have enough experience in this competition to know how difficult it can be, but we need to manage those challenging patches better.' Discussing Ireland's comeback, Tumilty added: 'The positive was quarter three where we played better hockey, were more aggressive in the press, and scored some good goals.' Ireland will face Italy in their next game of Pool A on Tuesday, July 29 at 3.15pm.

Oklahoma Sooners earn commitment from 2026 3-star DE Matthew Nelson
Oklahoma Sooners earn commitment from 2026 3-star DE Matthew Nelson The Oklahoma Sooners added another intriguing defensive prospect in the 2026 recruiting class with the commitment of defensive end Matthew Nelson. Nelson is the eighth player committed to the Sooners 2026 class and the fourth player on the defensive side of the ball. Just a few weeks ago, Brent Venables and the Sooners didn't have a player committed on defense. Venables and Jim Nagy have the ball rolling. Nelson received his Oklahoma offer back at the beginning of May, and not long after that, the Bryant, Arkansas product picked up offers from Mississippi State and Missouri. But the Sooners made a strong first impression and had him on campus this past weekend for his official visit. Despite an official visit with Tulane coming next week, he's pulled the trigger on committing to the Oklahoma Sooners. "After long and careful consideration, I'm officially shutting down my recruiting process," Nelson said on social media. "I have been blessed to be able to experience it, and I wouldn't want it to be any other way. Go Sooners!! He's the second defensive line prospect added to the class, joining four-star defensive tackle Brian Harris. After flying under the radar through his junior year, Nelson's recruitment began to heat up, and he's now considered a three-star prospect, according to Rivals. Nelson's length and his athleticism really stand out on tape. He displays fantastic effort working to the ball carrier even when the play runs away from him. Nelson displays great discipline, setting the edge. He plays with good power, showing the ability to pull offensive tackles off balance to get around them and to the quarterback. Nelson's quick off the line of scrimmage and plays with good leverage. He'll need to continue to add mass, but he has the frame to be able to bulk up and keep his athleticism and quickness. However, the Oklahoma Sooners added a good player in Matthew Nelson. More: Oklahoma Sooners 2026 recruiting commitment tracker Matthew Nelson's Highlights Watch Matthew Nelson's highlights on Hudl. Text-to-Pay available for downtown parking
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – It's now easier to pay with your phone when you park in downtown Sioux Falls. On April 23, the city of Sioux Falls applied new labels on some parking meters along Phillips Ave. that explain the city's newest payment option: Text-to-Pay. 'Text-to-Pay is kind of the emerging trend and we like some of the security features built into it,' Matthew Nelson, public parking manager for the city of Sioux Falls, said. Nelson said the Text-to-Pay feature is simple and convenient: Text the code on the parking meter to receive a secured link to pay with a credit card. Remotely extend parking time from a phone. Saved payment and car information will be under the phone number used for texting, no need to fill-in information every time for repeated parking. Nelson said Text-to-Pay doesn't pay for the physical meter, 'you're actually paying for your license plate.' This means that parking enforcers will identify vehicles based on the license plate number and not based on time from the meter, Nelson explained. 'If there's ever an issue, we can just go back and look at your plate number and easily find your payments,' Nelson said. Nelson said the overall system cost the city $1,000 to install, for all the configuration and integration on the system. Text-to-Pay includes a 45 cent convenience fee. Nelson explained the convenience fee covers all the credit card charges and the software cost to run that transaction, and it's a user-based fee. 'It's a low cost option and if people want to avoid that fee, they can certainly still pay with coins,' Nelson said. 'But, we do see it as a great option, an additional add-on service to our customers.' Nelson said there's still many free ways to park downtown if people desire more options. To pay to park downtown, the city of Sioux Falls offers three total options: Text-to-Pay Payment Kiosks: pay with cash, coins, or credit card at the parking meter. Park Smarter App: log in to an account for mobile payments, available in the Apple or Google Play stores. According to the city's website, the current standard parking rate is $1.50 per hour 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. As of April 23, parking ramps and lots are free after 5 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends. Starting May 1, parking fees will apply on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The city of Sioux Falls offers an updated, detailed parking map for availability, rates, parking locations. Even though you can still use the Park Smarter App now, the city of Sioux Falls will phase out the app over time, according to Nelson. 'We've had some compatibility issues with that app and it is getting dated,' Nelson said. 'So, just to make it more convenient for our staff and for customers to avoid issues, this is the best fully-integrated solution that we can bring.' QR codes won't be phased out, Nelson explained, but its use will be limited in the future. QR codes on downtown parking meters referred individuals to two options: a site to download the Park Smarter App, or a meter number to use inside the app. 'We're very careful about using QR codes in a place where they could easily be scammed or duplicate,' Nelson said. As of April 23, Nelson said there's been no verified reports of fraud, duplication, or scams on downtown parking meters. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
