Gajuwaka gears up for Vinayaka Chaviti with eco-friendly, record-setting Ganesh idol made from one lakh sarees
The idol, conceptualized by SV Entertainments, will be supported by a bamboo frame and adorned with sarees collected from across India, including Mumbai, Chennai, and Surat. The 'Namuna' (model) was officially unveiled on Sunday by Andhra Pradesh TDP president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao, who lauded the creativity and urged for proper arrangements to accommodate devotees.
'This is the first time in the country that a Ganesh idol is being created solely from sarees,' said Kosireddi Ganesh of SV Entertainments. 'It's not only a proud moment for Gajuwaka but also a big step toward eco-friendly celebration.'
Gajuwaka has earned renown for its towering and innovative Ganesh idols. SV Entertainments holds the record for the tallest so far—a 117-foot standing idol. This year's creation, depicting Lord Ganesha in a sitting posture, is expected to exceed 90 feet in height, with the final figure to be revealed closer to the festival.
Flanking the main idol will be two divine representations: Sri Lakshmi Narayana to the left, and Lord Sri Krishna in water to the right. The idol is being sculpted under the supervision of G. Srikanth, a renowned artist from Chirala, who leads a team of 25 artisans. Around 40% of the work has already been completed. 'In Andhra, Mr. Srikanth is the go-to artist for unique idol concepts,' said Mr. Ganesh.
As per tradition, a 'Maha Laddu' from Tapeswaram will be offered to the deity during the celebrations. With this latest initiative, Gajuwaka strengthens its stature as a major destination for grand Ganesh festivities, rivaling the famous Khairatabad idol in Telangana.

Mandals can register till July 31 for Khasdar Sanskritik Ganesh Utsav
1 2 Nagpur: What started as a small cultural experiment in 2021 has now turned into one of Nagpur's most successful community-driven initiatives that blends devotional celebration with rich cultural expression. The Khasdar Sanskritik Mahotsav Samiti has appealed to Ganesh mandals across Nagpur to register for the Sanskritik Ganesh Utsav. In its fourth year, the Sanskritik Ganesh Utsav has grown exponentially — from just 55 mandals and 350 artists in 2021 to over 300 mandals and 2,000 artists participating in 2024. Ganesh mandals have been asked to register by July 31, while cultural groups and artists will register by August 5. The mandals provide space, sound, and seating, while the performers are paid by the committee as well as mandal office-bearers. This year, the organising committee led by Anil Sole (president), along with key members Gauri Shankar Parashar, Ashok Mankar, Dilip Jadhav, Rajesh Bagdi, Balasaheb Kulkarni, Sanjay Gulkari, and others, aims to take the movement to further. Ganesh immersion, Milad-un-Nabi procession likely to overlap again
Hyderabad: For the third consecutive year, Hyderabad is likely to see the Ganesh idol immersion and the Milad-un-Nabi procession coincide in September 2025. This recurring overlap of the two significant religious events presents a familiar logistical challenge for the city. The Ganesh idol immersion is scheduled for September 6, marking the eleventh day of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Meanwhile, Eid Milad un Nabi is provisionally set for September 5, 2025. However, this date remains subject to confirmation based on the sighting of the crescent moon. While the exact date for the Milad-un-Nabi procession is not yet finalised, it is anticipated that it may be postponed as it could coincide with Ganesh idol immersions, which typically commence from the seventh day of the festival in Hyderabad. This mirrors the approach taken last year when the Ganesh idol immersion fell on September 17 and Milad un Nabi on September 16, 2024. To ensure peaceful celebrations, it was decided that while Milad-un-Nabi would be celebrated on its scheduled date, the procession would be held later, on September 19.

Bombay HC's BIG rule ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi: Idols of up to 6 feet height must be immersed in artificial water bodies
The Bombay High Court on Thursday said all all idols of up to six feet height must be immersed in artificial water bodies starting from Ganesh festival this year. The HC's order comes months ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi, which is going to be celebrated from August 26 this year. The Bombay HC's new rule will be applicable on all idols made of plaster of Paris and more than 6 feet in height. A division bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Sandeep Marne said this order is also applicable to Durga idols that will be immersed in early October this year. Ganesh Chaturthi is touted as the biggest festival in Maharashtra, while thousands of people also celebrate Durga Puja in the state. The division bench noted that in 2024, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had made around 204 water tanks for 1.95 lakh Ganesh idols that were under 5 feet. However, only 85,000 such idols were immersed in these tanks , while the remaining were immersed in natural water bodies. The Maharashtra government on Wednesday submitted an affidavit in the Bombay High Court stating that domestic Ganesh idols of up to 5 feet height will be immersed in artificial ponds. Large idols of Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandals will be immersed in the traditional manner in the sea, it said. This move will pave the way for the immersion of large Ganesh idols in the sea. The ban on POP (Plaster of Paris) posed a serious threat to the livelihoods of lakhs of sculptors and jeopardised the economy of a major traditional industry, the state government said. However, the Bombay HC was not impressed by the submission, ruling that idols up to 6 feet must be immersed in artificial tanks or ponds. "This Court has to make an endeavour that the impact of immersion of idols on environment is made bare minimal... Thus, instead of 5 feet, idols up to 6 feet be compulsorily immersed in artificial tanks," Chief Justice Aradhe said. Ganeshotsav, also known as Ganesh Chaturthi. Ganesh Chaturthi is a 10-day festival that continues until Anantha Chaturdashi. This year, Ganesh Chaturthi will begin on Wednesday, August 27th. This festival is also known as Vinayak Chaturthi or Vinayak Chavithi. During Ganesh Chaturthi, Lord Ganesha is worshipped as the god of new beginnings and the remover of obstacles.
