BMW believes no one was sandbagging on Le Mans test day

Yahoo20 hours ago

BMW wrapped up a clean and well-executed day of testing, with its fastest LMDh prototype posting the eighth-best time, 1.374s off Toyota's benchmark. Within the German camp, just as others across the paddock, there was little interest in chasing lap times or playing games.
Operating under the Team WRT banner and managed by Vincent Vosse, BMW focused solely on its own programme, keeping its eyes on preparation and setup rather than on any early comparison with rivals.

'We worked on different set-ups, different possibilities of what we might need in the race: ride height, of course, and how the car feels for the driver. The goal is to have a car that's good for the race,' the Belgian team boss explained.
As for a pecking order? It's not quite time to draw conclusions, says Vosse.
'Since I think we're still a bit far from the lap times that will be posted later in the week, it's hard to form an opinion now,' Vosse said, though he did point to the two usual suspects. 'Ferrari and Toyota seem to be very fast right now, obviously. But we're still so far from where we need to be. We'll worry about that later.'
It's an approach BMW believes was shared throughout the Le Mans pitlane, with Sunday being all about preparation — no bluffing, no games.

'No, I don't think anyone was sandbagging,' he stated. 'I think everyone's working. Everyone's doing their job, and no one's really focusing yet on chasing lap times.'

Anything else worth noting? 'Nothing special to report,' Vosse said, though when pressed agreed that wasn't entirely true. The #20 BMW (Magnussen-Vanthoor-Marciello), while fastest of the two cars, was also responsible for triggering the first red flag of the day after stopping near the Porsche Curves.
'We had a small warning on the #20 and stopped the car,' Vosse confirmed.

'We still need to check what happened, we'll see what comes of it. Otherwise, we completed all the work we needed on both cars, and the drivers on both sides are happy with the feeling.'

French Luxury Giant Kering Taps Auto Executive as Its New Leader

Kering, the beleaguered owner of Gucci, Saint Laurent, Balenciaga and other big fashion brands, on Monday announced Luca de Meo, the former boss of the French carmaker Renault, as its new chief executive, hoping the veteran auto industry leader can help revive the fortunes of the luxury goods giant. Mr. de Meo, 58, resigned on Sunday from Renault, which he had run since 2020. He also holds stints at Volkswagen, Fiat and Toyota under his belt, but has never worked in the fashion industry before. On Sept. 15, he will become the new leader of Kering, the company said in a statement, replacing its longtime chief executive, Francois-Henri Pinault. 'The group is ready for a new stage in its development,' said Mr. Pinault in the statement. Mr. de Meo 'is the leader I was looking for to bring a new vision and steer this chapter,' he added. Mr. Pinault, 63, the billionaire scion of one of France's best-known families, has been the chairman and chief executive of the group since 2005, when he first took the reins of his father's retail conglomerate Pinault-Printemps-Redoute and turned it into the luxury goods maker Kering in 2013. For a time, the company enjoyed spectacular growth, fueled by its cash cow Gucci, which accounts for almost half of Kering's revenue. For a time, Kering was almost seen as a rival to LVMH, the French luxury conglomerate led by Bernard Arnault, but it struggled after sales fell across its stable, including Gucci, amid an upheaval among designers and executives and a wider slowdown in the global luxury market in the wake of the pandemic. The company has taken on more than 10 billion euros in debt, or $11.6 billion, and its share price has fallen 78 percent from its peak in mid-2021. In recent months, scrutiny of Mr. Pinault's ability to continue as chief executive increased, as did theories around a possible succession plan involving a candidate from outside the Pinault family. Tijjani Reijnders says he's not at Manchester City to replace Kevin De Bruyne

Tijjani Reijnders does not see himself as a Kevin De Bruyne replacement but after years of studying the Belgian he hopes his goals can fire Manchester City back to winning trophies, starting with the Club World Cup. The Dutch midfielder joined from Milan this week in a deal worth €55million (£46.8m) as part of a midfield makeover following the departure of the club captain De Bruyne. Advertisement 'I am not here to replace him but I watched a lot of clips of him and how he plays the game,' said Reijnders at City's training base in Miami. 'I try to adapt that to my game but in my own way. A lot of times I watched Kevin but another player I can learn a lot of things from is Gundogan. It is nice to see him up close and see how he does it.' Robin van Persie and Dennis Bergkamp, an idol of his father who was also a professional player, were two of the other players he spent a lot of time analysing. Reijnders put it to good use last season as he scored 15 goals and registered five assists in all competitions as Milan won the Supercoppa Italiana. 'I already did with Milan last season being on the scoresheet. It is very important to score goals and give assists as a midfielder. 'The first season I came to Milan I wasn't calm in my head when I had opportunities. It was something I was thinking about that summer and watching clips back of myself. I tried to adapt last season and be more calm in front of goal.' He signed a new five-year contract with Milan earlier in the year but City identified him as their primary target. 'It was getting near to the end of the season when my father called me to say City were interested in me as the number eight,' Reijnders added. 'It was almost a no-brainer when City came and for me it was an easy choice in the end. It is important for me to play European football and playing for City is like a dream. 'I am really looking forward to it. Of course, you hear it from a lot of colleagues in the national team about how the Premier League is and I want to experience it.' City suffered their worst season under Guardiola last year, finishing in fourth on 71 points. For the team to drop off so dramatically was a surprise to many, including Reijnders. Advertisement 'Yes, but you can always have a season like this after all those seasons winning, four in a row for example,' he said. 'It is possible but it is up to us now to change that this season and win prizes. Kevin left but the base is still there and you see the standards that are here in training and outside the pitch. 'The boys are helping me very much with that and it gives me a good feeling.' ()

Luca de Meo to Succeed François-Henri Pinault as Kering CEO

This article originally appeared on Vogue Business. To receive the Vogue Business newsletter, sign up here. François-Henri Pinault is to relinquish his role as CEO of Kering. Luca de Meo, who has been CEO of Renault since 2020, will succeed him, Kering confirmed on Monday. In anticipation of the news being confirmed, the luxury group's stock rose 13 per cent on Monday. The Milan-born executive, whose exit from Renault is effective on 15 July, will assume the role at Kering in September. 'These changes will take effect upon the decision of the Board of Directors which will be held following the Shareholder Meeting to be called for September 9, 2025,' the group said in a note shared today. De Meo's résumé also includes CEO of Seat, CMO of Volkswagen Group and CEO of Fiat. "After twenty years of transforming Kering into a major global luxury player, the Group is ready for a new stage in its development. From 2023, I launched a reflection on the evolution of the Group's governance. It was in this context that I met Luca de Meo. His experience at the helm of an international listed group, his sharp understanding of brands, and his sense of a strong and respectful corporate culture convinced me that he is the leader I was looking for to bring a new vision and steer this chapter in our Group's history. It is with complete confidence that I am handing over the leadership of Kering and our teams to Luca. I will of course be at his side to accompany him in this new phase, as Chairman of the Board of Kering,' said François-Henri Pinault.
