Jon Rahm's favorite part of being a LIV captain involves Tyrrell Hatton and a karaoke bar
While he didn't have much experience in the gig, whatever Rahm's doing is clearly working.
With Tyrrell Hatton, upstart Caleb Surratt and youngster Tom McKibben also on the roster, Legion has a sizable edge in the LIV team standings, heading into the final two regular-season tournaments of the year. And the team is getting hot at the right time, winning each of the last two events in Spain and the UK.
New role has been good for Jon Rahm
Rahm admitted in advance of this week's LIV Golf Chicago that he's had some tender moments as the leader, something that's vastly different than life on the cutthroat PGA Tour.
"I do get some moments where some players can be a little bit more vulnerable towards me more than they would ever have been because of the position I'm in as captain," he said, "and I think they're also more willing to ask for help because of the environment we're in as opposed to any other tour being more individual. Sometimes people can hesitate asking for advice."
But what's been the secret to success for the team this season? Obviously, Rahm's play has been one of the key pieces in driving Legion XIII to its impressive lead.
However, he insists that a little team camaraderie has helped as well, and it all stems from a karaoke bar in Hong Kong back in March.
"I think my favorite part of this year, having arrived early in Hong Kong and having plenty of time until Friday after a team dinner, for some reason, I don't know if it was me or Tyrrell [Hatton], I think it might have been me, who had the brilliant idea of let's go find a karaoke bar, and Google Maps works as it works, translated from Chinese to English," Rahm said. "Finding myself and Tyrrell in this building in Hong Kong Island, not that we were ever in danger, but somehow I ended up on the roof looking for this place. At some point we ended up in the basement finding a different place.
"Caleb hasn't traveled that much, hasn't seen that much worldwide. Him telling the story of we were in the sketchiest part of the city. We were not. We were in a very nice part of Hong Kong Island, never in danger.
"Almost having those team experiences — we ended up finding a very nice place. It was a lot of fun. Jet lag hours, your brain and your body are obviously operating in different places and you're awake at weird times, so it was in a weird way a very fun night with the team, unexpected because not that it was the plan, but recalling that story the next morning from Caleb's eyes thinking that we were — I wouldn't know how to explain it, but if he were to tell you the story, you would have thought we were on skid row. We were not. It was a little bit of a fun night early on in the year."

Does Jon Rahm sing karaoke?
Rahm insists he's not musically inclined, although it's a skill he wishes he had.
"I'm a terrible singer. I've said many times if I could trade a lot of my golfing talent for singing, I would, but not everybody has the bravery, I guess, to stand up and sing," he said. "But most of us did. I guess after a while you get comfortable enough. But not in public. We had our own little room. There's no way without going in a room like this and sing. No chance."
So is he a regular on the karaoke scene?
"No, that was the first time I ever went to one," he said. "I figured China was as good a place as any other to go to."
As for the season, Rahm said a key change helped to allow Legion XIII really shine. And it was all about accountability.
"I think the format change, allowing all four scores to count all three days was something that I thought would be very beneficial for us, the second I knew we were going to add Tom McKibbin to the team, somebody that was relatively unknown to almost everybody at LIV, who now is not, knowing how good he was, obviously Tyrrell doing Tyrrell things, and Caleb with more experience playing better," he said. "I was always confident we could do really well, and it's funny, we started great and had a bit of a slump, then our second win, and almost going into summer we're all playing at a much higher level getting those two wins in a row and being consistently in a good place.
"At this stage obviously getting the No. 1 spot to where we can control as much as we can control going into the last event is something important."

Is Adrian Dunbar actually singing in Ridley? Explaining the musical aspect of mystery thriller
After a ~three year~ wait, the second season of detective drama Ridley is the iconic TV show finally hitting our screens and we're excited to see where it takes us next. The show takes us back to the North of England as we're reunited with the reclusive detective Alex Ridley, played by Adrian Dunbar, whose hobbies include solving crime, listening to old records, in a jazz bar, which he co-owns with Annie Marling, played by Julie Graham. Yep, when the show originally aired in 2022, the musical elements had many a viewer, well, kind of gagged actually. What you might not realise is that this particular aspect of the show was thought up by none other than Adrian himself, with the actor presenting his idea to the makers of the show. "That's something I brought to it myself and I've always liked the idea of the Singing Detective, which was a programme that happened many years ago," he told Radio Times. He explained that the decision to have Ridley co-own and sing in a jazz bar was a creative choice to bring more "warmth" and "glamour" to the English setting. "I also thought that as we're going to be up in the northwest, it's going to be cold and everything," he said. "Wouldn't it be great if there was somewhere else, a location that we can go to, that would be a bit warmer, and a bit more glamorous?" According to Radio Times, Adrian explained that he really is singing in Ridley, and opened up about his musical past. "I started [out] playing in bands, so being on stage singing is something I've done quite a bit of. And even in my 40s I put another band together and I went out on the road in Ireland, played in pubs and bars and stuff like that, just for my own enjoyment, because I like it," he said. In an interview released to press, Adrian also explained that the songs were initially released by the musician Richard Hawley. "I really wanted to do something with music in it, so I suggested that he owned a jazz club. And then I did some research regarding jazz and the north of England and so forth. I came across Richard Hawley, who I didn't know, and started listening to his songs," he said. "Subsequently, we contacted Richard and we found three of his songs that we really liked, because I thought they really suited my character. And so we went and recorded them and fitted them into the show," he continued. "And I think that element really works. I also wanted a place within the show every week that you'd go to that was a bit warmer and a bit more glamorous." Kind of obsessed, we can't lie! Ridley season two returns to ITV 10 August.

Tommy Fleetwood clings to 1-shot lead in Memphis as Scottie Scheffler lurks
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Tommy Fleetwood had a three-shot swing go against him early and a two-shot swing cost him on the final hole Saturday in the FedEx St. Jude Championship. He did enough right in between for a 1-under 69 and a one-shot lead over Justin Rose as he goes for his first PGA Tour title. If that wasn't enough, Scottie Scheffler had a huge presence only two shots back. Still, those two holes were a reminder to Fleetwood that 18 holes can feel a long way off at the TPC Southwind. There figures to be plenty of pressure at the top and scattered among the rest of the field trying to advance in the FedEx Cup playoffs. 'It's just another opportunity for me to go out and try and have the best round of golf I can, enjoy being in that position,' Fleetwood said. 'The more I put myself there, the more chance there is of it happening, and just go out and keep learning from every experience. But tomorrow might be my day, it might not, but being there is the most important thing, and I'll continue to try and do that.' Fleetwood, who has won plenty on big stages around the world but not on the PGA Tour, started the third round with a three-shot lead over Rose, who had to finish his storm-delayed second round in the morning. On the par-5 third, Fleetwood's second shot came up short and into the water. He took his penalty drop, and then hit wedge over the green into a bunker. Fleetwood said he noticed his golf ball move ever so slightly on his swing with the wedge. Rules officials studied the video and determined that if it moved — they couldn't determine if it did because it was so slight — Fleetwood didn't cause it and no penalty was issued. He made double bogey, and Rose ran off three straight birdies to take the lead. 'The third was just such a kerfuffle and such a mess,' he said. 'It was not that bad of a second shot, but it's obviously a terrible shot if it's in the water. From there, drop, sort of felt like the ball had moved when I hit it, thinned it over the back, just made a double for nothing really.' Fleetwood rebounded to not only regain the lead but build it back to three shots. But on the 18th hole, he drove into the rough, couldn't reach the green and made bogey to finish 54 holes at 14-under 196. Rose hit out of the rough to 5 feet from the front pin for his first birdie since the seventh hole. That gave him a 67 and put him in the final group with his Ryder Cup teammate. Scheffler, meanwhile, put together six birdies in his round of 65 and was two shots behind. He made his lone bogey on No. 10, and Scheffler avoided another when his bunker shot on No. 12 hit a sprinkler that kept it from going on the green. He holed a 25-foot putt from the fringe. Scheffler, already assured of keeping the No. 1 seed in the FedEx Cup playoffs, is going for his fifth win of the year. He has not finished out of the top 10 since March. U.S. Open champion J.J. Spaun (65) and Andrew Novak (67) were three shots behind. Sunday is one of the more critical days on the PGA Tour, and not just for Fleetwood. The top 50 in the FedEx Cup advance to the second playoff event at the BMW Championship and are assured of getting into all the $20 million signature events next year. Rickie Fowler and Chris Kirk each had a 66 and were projected to move into the top 50, along with Bud Cauley and Jhonattan Vegas. Among those who could get bumped out are Jordan Spieth, who had to settle for another 70. Key for the players like Fowler and Cauley are staying high on the leaderboard because those are worth more points and they have more room to make up. For Fleetwood, it's about winning. He is No. 15 in the world. He has starred in two Ryder Cups for Europe and won against strong fields. But the lack of a PGA Tour title is becoming a burden. He had a one-shot lead on the final hole at the Travelers Championship in June until taking three putts from just off the green and losing to Keegan Bradley's birdie. His hope in June was to get another chance sooner rather than later, and his next one is Sunday at the TPC Southwind.
