Commercial Kitchen Air Quality Under Scrutiny — Camfil, a Canadian Air Filter Manufacturer, Responds with Industry-Leading Solutions

04/28/2025, Toronto, ON // PRODIGY: Feature Story //
Poor indoor air quality is becoming an overlooked hazard in commercial kitchens across Canada, from Vancouver's bustling restaurant districts to food service facilities in Toronto, Calgary, and Montreal. A new blog by Camfil Canada—a global leader in clean air solutions—explores the specific air quality challenges facing Canadian kitchens and how advanced filtration technologies can help address them.
The article, titled 'Canadian Commercial Kitchen Air Quality: Threats & Air Filter Solutions,' offers a science-backed overview of pollutants found in kitchen environments. These include fine particulate matter, grease vapours, odours, and combustion byproducts, which not only impact staff health but also compromise HVAC system performance and affect regulatory compliance.
'Our goal is to help kitchen operators—from independent cafés in Ottawa to large-scale food halls in Edmonton—understand the unseen risks of airborne contaminants,' said Berni Baier, an air quality expert at Camfil Canada. 'With the right filtration systems, we can support cleaner, healthier, and more energy-efficient kitchen environments across the country.'
The educational resource serves as a guide for kitchen managers, building engineers, and facilities managers looking to improve indoor air quality without compromising performance or energy efficiency, highlighting solutions tailored to Canadian building codes and commercial HVAC systems, including high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters, molecular filters for odour control, and grease-resistant pre-filters that extend equipment life. Camfil's Canadian branches, including those in Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Montreal, Ottawa, and Halifax, provide localized support and consulting to food service professionals.

Gold Edges Up as Traders Look to Jackson Hole and Ukraine Talks

(Bloomberg) -- Gold edged higher as traders looked ahead to potential interest-rate signals from the Federal Reserve's annual gathering in Jackson Hole, as well as high-stakes diplomacy in Washington over efforts to end the war in Ukraine. Bullion traded near $3,350 an ounce, stuck in a narrow range over the past few sessions. Central bankers from around the world will gather at the retreat in Wyoming starting Friday, with market pricing suggesting that a reduction in US rates is likely at the Fed's policy meeting next month. The US-Canadian Road Safety Gap Is Getting Wider A Photographer's Pipe Dream: Capturing New York's Vast Water System Festivals and Parades Are Canceled Amid US Immigration Anxiety A London Apartment Tower With Echoes of Victorian Rail and Ancient Rome Princeton Plans New Budget Cuts as Pressure From Trump Builds The Fed's Raphael Bostic said after a three-day tour of the southeastern US that tariff strains were real, high borrowing costs were squeezing business profits and he's open to adjusting rates soon. Lower rates typically benefit gold because the precious metal doesn't bear interest. 'Markets increasingly expect the Federal Reserve to strike a more dovish tone at the upcoming Jackson Hole symposium, with traders largely looking past last week's slightly firmer U.S. inflation print,' said Priyanka Sachdeva, an analyst at Phillip Nova in Singapore. 'The broader market view is that inflationary pressures remain on a cooling path.' Meanwhile, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskiy and his European allies are due to discover what US President Donald Trump committed to at his summit with Russia's Vladimir Putin last week, amid apprehension that he'll try to force Kyiv into making unpalatable concessions. Any signs of a ceasefire could ease demand for the precious metal as a haven. Gold has rallied by more than a quarter this year, reaching a record in April. Since then, prices have tracked sideways, with investors following the fallout from the US-led trade war, concerns over the strength of the global economy and geopolitical tensions. Central-bank buying has also helped to support bullion. Gold was up to $ an ounce at 12:42 p.m. in London. The Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index was steady. Silver was up, platinum was little changed and palladium dropped. --With assistance from Laura Avetisyan. Kate Middleton and Prince William Moving to "Forest Lodge"

Update in the never ending saga of "where are Kate Midleton and Prince William moving next?" Apparently, the couple are no longer ditching Adelaide Cottage for Fort Belvedere due to a Canadian billionaire renewing their lease earlier this year (hate when that happens). Instead, the duo and their three young children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—are moving to Forest Lodge in Great Windsor Park. Forest Lodge is 328 years old, has 8 bedrooms, and some seriously extensive grounds. And if you're wondering whether or not British tax payers are footing the renovation bill, nope! Wills and Kate are covering costs themselves, and privacy screens have already gone up as builders start work on the property. A source tells The Sun that Windsor has become the Waleses home, which is why they want to stay in the area. "Over the last few years while they have lived at Adelaide Cottage there have been some really difficult times," an insider tells the outlet. "Moving gives them an opportunity for a fresh start and a new chapter; an opportunity to leave some of the more unhappy memories behind. This is a move for the long-term. They see it as their forever home.' Meanwhile, sources tell the Daily Mail that the William and Kate won't have a live-in staff, butlers or valets—though their security and nanny will live in cottages nearby. As for when they're planning to move, it looks like Christmas 2025 is the target date!
