He highlighted the ongoing implementation of the
Chief Minister Organ Transplant Scheme
(CMOTS), reinforcing the state's commitment to saving lives through critical support.
The chief minister, in a social media post, advocated a fundamental shift in the state's healthcare approach towards prevention and wellness.
"Over the last 7 years, we've helped more than 200 patients receive a second chance at life through kidney transplants. Now, we're building on that progress. Under the new Chief Minister Organ Transplant Scheme (CMOTS), we're expanding support of Rs 10 lakh for kidney transplants, Rs 15 lakh for bone marrow transplants, Rs 20 lakh for liver transplants," he said in a post on X.
However, Khandu emphasised that treatment alone is not enough to build a healthy society.
"Real progress is when people don't fall sick in the first place. We've got to change how we think about healthcare. Because a healthy society doesn't start in the operating room. It starts at home, in our communities, in how we live," he said.
The chief minister urged the health department to prioritise prevention through real investment in awareness, education, and lifestyle change.
The state government has allocated an amount of Rs 369 crore for the health sector in the 2025-26 fiscal.
CMOTS is currently in effect and is part of the government's broader health sector roadmap.
A key component of the scheme involves strengthening the state's capability in kidney transplants through a dedicated programme at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) at Naharlagun, near here.
TRIHMS is collaborating with the Chandigarh-based Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), India's leading centre for transplant medicine and research.
State Health and Family Welfare Minister Biyuram Wahge recently visited PGIMER, where he met Director Prof Vivek Lal and a team of specialists to discuss a phased implementation plan tailored to Arunachal's unique healthcare needs.
Wahge later shared that PGIMER has agreed to provide comprehensive technical and logistical support to Arunachal Pradesh, which will include capacity building, training, infrastructure development, and long-term institutional collaboration.
The state government is also partnering with various other organisations to increase awareness about organ donation and to scale up transplant-related services.

(Bloomberg) -- If Novo Nordisk A/S's wildly popular weight-loss drug succeeds in a highly anticipated trial for Alzheimer's disease, Biogen Inc.'s Chief Executive Officer Chris Viehbacher doesn't see it as a roadblock for his company's medication. Rather, he sees it as an opportunity to potentially combine drugs and create a more potent therapy. 'As we look out over the next five years, we're probably going to see a treatment much like any other complex disease,' he said in an interview with Bloomberg News, meaning there will be 'different mechanisms of action that you need.' It's not uncommon for drugmakers to study combinations of treatments when two seem to work for the same condition, in hope of boosting the benefit. Viehbacher said if Novo's study works, Biogen 'might' do trials looking at the two drugs in combination but cautioned the timeline might not make sense given Alzheimer's studies take years to complete. Biogen's looking to the growth of its Alzheimer's drug Leqembi to offset the decline of its multiple sclerosis franchise, which is facing competition from cheaper generic drugs. Biogen's new Alzheimer's drug is already facing competition from Eli Lilly & Co.'s Alzheimer's drug, which was approved in the US last year and has since captured around 30% of the market, according to analysts. Other companies are also circling. Novo is carrying out clinical trials to assess whether the main ingredient in diabetes drug Ozempic and weight-loss shot Wegovy might help people with early Alzheimer's disease. Research suggests that the weight-loss drug could slow Alzheimer's progression by impacting inflammation and vascular health. Results of Novo's late-stage trial are expected later this year. Viehbacher noted that being overweight is a risk factor for Alzheimer's. He cautioned the Novo study 'is a fairly risky proposition,' adding that 'most of the experts we're talking to are not convinced that it will work.' 'It's logical if you have a weight-loss drug that you can see some benefit, but it's actually pretty hard to move the needle on the cognitive side,' Viehbacher added. Alzheimer's drug development has been riddled with failures, even when drugs looked promising in early studies. Leqembi is a partnership between Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Biogen and Japanese drugmaker Eisai Co. Biogen makes the active ingredient for Leqembi in Switzerland. The company then ships it to North Carolina, where it gets made into a product. President Donald Trump recently put a 39% tariff on imports from Switzerland. It's unclear whether this would impact Biogen's drug. Still, Viehbacher said the company has the ability to start producing the substance used to make Leqembi in North Carolina for the US market, while continuing to make it in Switzerland for outside the US. He said the company always intended to use its North Carolina facilities to make Leqembi and the potential move was not a direct response to Trump's tariff threats. Apollo Hospitals posts 42 pc jump in profit to Rs 433 cr in Q1
New Delhi, Aug 12 (PTI) Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd on Tuesday reported a 42 per cent jump in profit after tax to Rs 433 crore in the June quarter. The healthcare services provider had reported a PAT of Rs 305 crore in the year-ago period, according to a company release. Revenues rose 15 per cent to Rs 5,842 crore in the first quarter of the current fiscal year from Rs 5,086 crore in Q1 FY25, it said. Healthcare services revenue rose 11 per cent to Rs 2,935 crore in the first quarter of FY26 against Rs 2,637 crore in Q1 FY25, the statement said. CM urges youth to stay away from drugs on International Youth Day
Shimla: On the occasion of International Youth Day on Tuesday, chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu urged the youth of the state to stay away from drugs and actively support efforts to make Himachal drug-free. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Sukhu appealed to young people to report drug traffickers to the police and assured that the state govt was committed to rehabilitating those trapped in the drug menace. Strict action was being taken against drug mafias, including the confiscation of their properties, he added. "The reforms we are implementing today will benefit the youth in the next five years when they will proudly say they belong to the most prosperous state in the country," he added. The chief minister also flagged off a 'Red Run' and 'Bicycle Run' from his official residence earlier in the morning and honoured the winners. To promote tourism, the state would invest Rs 3,000 crore in the coming years. The govt is offering loans at a 4% interest rate for home-stay construction. Presently, about 8,000 home-stays are operational in the state, and tourism activities have begun along the China border, he added. Educational reforms have elevated Himachal's ranking from 21st to 5th in the country, said Sukhu. He also started the second phase of the 'Car-Bin Distribution' drive, handing bins to 50 taxi drivers in Shimla. Across the state, 6,000 car-bins will be distributed, in addition to the 4,000 distributed earlier in the first phase. HIV Cases On The Rise The chief minister launched an HIV awareness campaign, scheduled to run from Aug 12 to Oct 12. Health minister Colonel Dhani Ram Shandil (retd) expressed concern over the 6,408 HIV cases reported in the state, of which 1,453 are among youth aged 15-30 years. He said the state govt is promoting HIV testing and treatment alongside running awareness programmes to curb the spread of the disease.
