Dibrugarh: Senior officials from Assam Cricket Association (ACA) on Saturday conducted a comprehensive inspection of the designated 32-bigha plot in Dhemaji, where a new stadium will be constructed.
The team, led by ACA president Taranga Gogoi, consisted of secretary Tridib Konwar and several other members of the association's apex council. Education minister Ranoj Pegu and Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah, too, were present during the site inspection.
The land at Hatigarh Deoribeel has already been officially transferred from the district administration to ACA. "ACA will begin construction of a state-of-the-art stadium, coupled with modern facilities, within this year, boosting the state's growth in cricket," said Gogoi.
The proposed stadium will be constructed according to BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) specifications and standards, ensuring it meets all requirements for hosting domestic and potentially international cricket matches. The facility will feature modern amenities including advanced playing surfaces, spectator-friendly facilities, training areas and support infrastructure that meets contemporary cricket stadium standards.

Turning point: Arc-angels spot a cricketing talent, Ludhiana U19 offie on flighted delivery to Australia.
Ludhiana: Here's the art few can discern, the patient craft of flight and turn. At just 17, right-arm off-spinner Anmoljeet Singh is being tipped as one of India's brightest young cricketing prospects, earning a place on the national under-19 squad for its upcoming tour of Australia. Anmoljeet, inspired by cricket legend Harbhajan Singh , began playing at age seven before joining a Ludhiana academy under coach Harbhajan Kala. Initially a fast bowler and batsman, he was steered by Kala toward off-spin — a move that proved pivotal. Kala describes him as a "natural talent" destined to be a key asset for India's future squads. The teenager's record speaks for itself. In the Vijay Merchant Trophy, he claimed 65 wickets in nine matches, surpassing the previous record of 62. His performances earned him selection for the BCCI's Under-19 tour of India against Australia, where he took nine wickets, and for the Under-19 tour of the UK, where India won the series. The BCCI also honoured him with a Naman Award for being the tournament's highest wicket-taker. Now preparing for matches in Australia, Anmoljeet has his sights set on the Under-19 World Cup. His ultimate ambition is to represent India at senior international level. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas Prices In Dubai Might Be More Affordable Than You Think Villas In Dubai | Search Ads Get Quote Undo Support at home has been unwavering. His father, Balwinder Singh, encouraged him to pause his education to focus fully on cricket, believing sports had time limits that academics did not. "Once he achieves his goal of playing for India, he can return to his studies," Balwinder said. For Anmoljeet, the choice was clear. "I couldn't focus on both studies and sport at the same time, so I gave my priority to cricket," he said. He plans to resume his education from Class X after key cricketing milestones. Coach Kala remains confident in his pupil's trajectory. "Anmoljeet will continue to grow and excel," he said, "and could be among the best off-spinners for India". In the words of cricket poet Arthur Salway: "Soccer is won with cultured feet and rugger with... grist; but when cricket is played the difference is made by a delicate turn of the wrist." ‘No. 3 looks fragile': Ganguly backs Abhimanyu Easwaran for Test debut after persistent snub and father's rant on non-selection
During the recent Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series, a startling stat made for grim viewing for Bengal batter Abhimanyu Easwaran. Since his first call-up into the Test side, the Bengal batter has remained on the sidelines without ever getting a nod for a spot in the playing 11. In the same timeline, 15 other players have pipped Easwaran and went onto make their debut in the longest format for India. Easwaran's first call-up into the Test side came three years ago in Bangladesh in December 2022, when he replaced then-captain Rohit Sharma in the squad following his injury. The 29-year-old was also part of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour to Australia in the 2024-25 season, but with Rohit, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal jostling for space in the top-order, Easwaran remained on the fringes. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has backed his Bengal statemate to make a breakthrough soon enough as India's No. 3 options Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair did not quite seal the spot during the England tour. Speaking at an event in Kolkata, Ganguly felt that the 29-year-old Easwaran could present his case at number three soon enough 'He has age on his side. I still believe he will get his chance,' said Ganguly, as quoted by the Times of India. 'I feel batters like Yashasvi (Jaiswal), KL Rahul, (Shubman) Gill, (Rishabh) Pant, (Ravindra) Jadeja have all got runs. It's only the No. 3 slot that looked a bit fragile. Maybe Easwaran will be tried out there,' he added. Easwaran's father, Ranganathan, recently gave an explosive interview where he lamented that the team management had assured him of a long run in whites despite being remaining on the bench for nearly four years. 'Gautam Gambhir, when he spoke to my son, he assured him see you you're doing the right kind of things you'll get your turn you'll get a long run. 'I'm not the one who will push you out after one or two matches. I'll give you a long rope.' That's what my son communicated to me. The entire coaching team assured him that he'll get his due, he'll get his long run. That's the best I can say. My son is waiting for 4 years, He's put in 23 years of hard work,' Ranganathan said in an interview on Vickey Lalwani's YouTube channel. 'He should have played one down. There is no question. There are not second thoughts about it. No ill feelings for Sai Sudharsan. Where does he fit in? 0, 30, 61, 0 (Sai Sudharsan's score in Leeds and Manchester Tests). They could have tried Abhimanyu. Abhimanyu has played about 30% of his matches at Eden Gardens, which a green track and he's got experience of playing on green tracks and the record suggest Abhimanyu is a player who holds the innings for a long time. Records speak,' Abhimanyu Easwaran's father said.

'Once A Player Has Done Well In Test...': India Selectors Told To Move On From Rohit And Kohli
A report claims that India's upcoming white-ball tour of Australia could be the final stint at the international level for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. With the conclusion of England Test tour, the Indian team management's focus has now shifted to the next month's Asia Cup which will be played in T20 format. While the selection meeting to pick the squad for the continental tournament will be held later this month, speculations are rife over the ODI futures of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Both Rohit and Kohli have retired from Tests and T20Is but remain available for ODIs. However, there are reports that the two could also call time on their respective one-day careers as well given that the team management would want to start grooming younger players for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Former India selector Devang Gandhi feels that the time has come to take the call to give more opportunities to the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan. 'How will you make players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Sai Sudharsan, among others, sit out when they have shown how well they can adapt? The bigger transition is from T20s to Tests. Once a player has done well in Test cricket and has the power game, ODIs should come easier to them. It is very important that the selectors and the team management sit together and take a call," Gandhi told the Times of India. A report claims that India's upcoming white-ball tour of Australia could be the final stint at the international level for the two stalwarts. The duo has been out of action since the IPL 2025. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly feels that should Rohit and Kohli manage to do well in Australia, they should continue playing the format. 'I'm not aware of this (Rohit and Kohli's ODI retirements), can't comment on this. It's difficult to say. Whoever does well will play. If they do well, they should continue. Kohli's one-day record is phenomenal, even Rohit Sharma's. Both of them are phenomenal in white-ball cricket," he said. Did Kohli Announce Test Retirement Early? Could Kohli have waited for one last stint in Test whites for India before drawing curtains on a glorious red-ball career? The questions will continue to rankle for some time to come even though his absence wasn't felt as India's next generation stepped up admirably during their recent tour of England. While the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy ended 2-2 with India producing an epic comeback in the fifth Test at The Oval for a six-run win, former India batter and chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar feels that the team needed a cricketer of Kohli's caliber for the England tour. 'If I were the Indian chief selector, I would have persuaded Virat to bid goodbye to Test cricket after playing the England series. We needed his class and experience in this series," Vengsarkar, who played 116 Tests between 1976 and 1992, told The Times of India. Kohli had given no prior indication of him nursing the thoughts of Test retirement before sharing the announcement via social media. He retires with 9230 runs from 123 Tests. view comments Location : New Delhi, India, India First Published: August 12, 2025, 11:02 IST News cricket 'Once A Player Has Done Well In Test...': India Selectors Told To Move On From Rohit And Kohli Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
