R. Kelly files motion to be released from prison, alleging his life is in danger, Entertainment News
R. Kelly has made a bid to be released from prison.
The I Believe I Can Fly singer — who is serving a 31-year sentence for child sexual abuse crimes — is seeking to be removed from federal custody and placed on house arrest after alleging his life is in danger behind bars.
An emergency motion for temporary furlough was filed in federal court on Tuesday (June 10) and alleges three officials with the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) devised a plot to have Kelly killed by another inmate.
The filing, which was obtained by People magazine, contains a declaration from the inmate, Mikeal Glenn Stine, who alleged he was asked to carry out the plot by three high-ranking individuals while serving his sentence at the United States Penitentiary Tucson in Arizona.
Stine claimed to be a member of the Aryan Brotherhood and was titled commissioner at one point, which gave him the "power to order beatings, stabbings, and executions that were carried out by other members of the A.B."
He alleged a BOP official who had previously "directed [Stine] to order assaults, beatings, and killings of inmates" approached him about killing the 58-year-old singer, and he was then transferred across the country to the Federal Correctional Institute Butner in North Carolina where Kelly is behind bars, and was eventually placed in the same unit as him.
If he completed the act, Stine alleged officials told him he'd be allowed to escape from custody and live out his final months as a "free man", which appealed because he said he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer at the time.
Shortly after being relocated, he alleged an official approached him and said: "You need to do what you came here for."
But after watching Kelly for weeks, he had a change of heart and told the singer about the supposed plot.
Stine — who has filed more than 100 civil suits and petitions in federal court over the last two decades — claimed he would undergo a polygraph test to establish he is telling the truth and said he'd also reveal the names of those inmates whose beatings and killings he has been involved with over the years.
Kelly's lawyer argued in the filing that "drastic relief is warranted" to protect his client.
The attorney added: "Mr Kelly's continued incarceration while he knows his life is in jeopardy constitutes cruel and unusual punishment."
After being attacked in the past, Kelly is said to be even more fearful of a future incident because he believes prison staff may not adequately protect him.
His attorney Beau Brindley told People: "He is not safe in federal custody. And to keep him in prison while he is under threat like this is cruel and unusual punishment."

Sean 'Diddy' Combs' legal team requests mistrial , Entertainment News
Sean 'Diddy' Combs' legal team have requested a mistrial. The 55-year-old music mogul is currently on trial in New York after pleading not guilty to charges including racketeering and sex trafficking by force but his lawyers have made their second request to have proceedings declared invalid after claiming "prosecutorial misconduct". A letter sent to Judge Arun Subramanian on Saturday (June 7) that was obtained by People magazine saw the defence allege "the government has presented testimony that it knew or should have known was materially false related to its allegation that Mr Combs dangled Bryana Bongolan from the balcony of Cassie Ventura's apartment in September 2016". The note added: "Accordingly, to avoid an unfair conviction in this case the Court should grant a mistrial." In addition, Combs team argued his ex-girlfriend Cassie's testimony, in which she stated she saw the rapper dangle Bryana from a balcony, was "demonstrably false" because text messages allegedly showed she only learned of the supposed incident afterwards. The letter argued: "The incident, as alleged, is disturbing and powerful evidence, and the government has used it to depict Mr Combs in an extremely negative light, as an angry and dangerous man who terrified Ms Ventura and her friends." And the lawyers argued the prosecution presented photos of Bryana's alleged injuries from the incident, which were said to have been taken on Sept 26, 2016, in Los Angeles, even though "the government has long known" the Bad Boy records founder was in New York City between Sept 24 to 29 that year. Furthermore, the defence claimed the prosecution "repeatedly attempted to disrupt" their line of questioning when they tried to "expose the perjury upon cross-examination". The letter added: "All of this was highly improper and exacerbated the harm caused by [...] the perjured testimony. "The balcony incident is just one example of prosecutorial misconduct during this trial." Combs' lawyers had previously requested a mistrial at the end of May when prosecutors asked Lance Jiminez, an arson investigator from the Los Angeles Fire Department, if fingerprint evidence related to the bombing of Kid Cudi's car had been destroyed and who could have authorised the decision. The I'll Be Missing You rapper's lawyers argued the questioning could potentially hint that their client was able to buy his way out of trouble. However, the judge denied the first motion and ruled the questions were not prejudicial to the case. [[nid:718843]]

David Duchovny is married, Entertainment News
David Duchovny has got married. The X Files actor and his partner Monique Pendleberry — who he has been in a relationship with for almost six years — were spotted in Malibu on Tuesday (May 20) wearing rings on their wedding fingers, and insiders have now confirmed to Us Weekly that the pair have tied the knot. The 64-year-old star — who has West, 26, and Kyd, 22, with ex-wife Tea Leoni — began dating Monique, 31, in 2017 but they have made very few public appearances together over the years. He previously told how his 2014 divorce from Tea, 59, made him "more empathetic and humble". He told The Times about the emotional fallout he was hit by following the split: "That darkness does deepen you. It makes you more empathetic and humble." David also opened up about how people are constantly trying to work out if his role as womaniser Hank Moody in Californication was linked to him checking into rehab for sex addiction in 2008. He said when asked if the role was a case of art imitating life: "People never tire of trying to figure that out. "But to me, that's not what acting is about. I don't look for things that are mirroring my life in any way." He has also confessed to feeling "inadequate" as a father because he was always working so much. He told People magazine last year: "Maybe I was a good parent, because my kids are great people, and they probably want to think of me as a good parent, too. "They don't want to think of me as a failure. I'm sure I've done bad things, I'm sure I've made mistakes, but we all have. So, I try and give myself more of a break. However, he noted it was "also cool to model a person who's engaged with their life for a kid." He added: "It might not be the best thing to just devote your entire existence to your kid either, so it could go either way. "I don't have access to the other road that could have been travelled. I just have the one that I did travel, so certainly not a perfect parent, but I love my kids. I love my kids so, so much." [[nid:718037]]
