News18 Operation Sindoor Poll: Rahul Gandhi's ‘Narender Surrender' Barb Boomerangs

Last Updated: When asked, 'Is the remark 'Narender Surrender' in good taste?', a massive 87.55% of the respondents have answered 'No', with only 12.45% picking 'Yes' The Congress and its MP Rahul Gandhi have been trying to corner Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government over the ceasefire agreement with Pakistan following India's anti-terror Operation Sindoor. The results of a News18 public poll, however, indicate overwhelming support for PM Modi and aversion for the Congress's tactics. Rahul Gandhi has used the slogan 'Narender Surrender" to allege that PM Modi 'surrendered" and stopped the attacks after a call from US President Donald Trump. The Congress also shared a two-panel cartoon on social media site X: the first showed Trump yelling 'Narender, surrender" into the phone, and the second showed Modi saying 'yes, sir". Even as Trump has claimed on multiple occasions that he had a role in the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, the Indian government has maintained that the operation was paused at the request of Pakistan and no third party was involved in the process. India launched precision strikes aimed at terror establishments in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under the codename Operation Sindoor on May 7 as a response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 people. When asked, 'Is the remark 'Narender Surrender' in good taste?", a massive 87.55% of the respondents answered 'No", with only 12.45% picking 'Yes". The poll by News18 was conducted over two days, May 6 and May 7, 2025, using state-of-the-art software. It was held on News18's websites and social media platforms, and also via television channels using QR codes. A total of 14,671 responses were collected. ‎ To the question, 'Do you believe that PM Modi has consistently taken a strong stand when it comes to national security?", a whopping 88.06% of the respondents replied 'Yes", while just 11.94% picked 'No". BJP leaders have hit out at Rahul Gandhi over his tactics, with party national president JP Nadda accusing the Wayanad MP of 'treason" as well as insulting the valour and courage of the armed forces. 'Rahul Gandhi calling the unmatched valour and courage of the Indian Army a 'surrender' is not only unfortunate but also a grave insult to the Indian Army, the nation and 140 crore Indians. If any Pakistani had said this, we would have laughed at him, but after the way Operation Sindoor wreaked havoc in Pakistan, no one from the people of Pakistan to its army and even its Prime Minister dared to say this, but Rahul Gandhi is saying this! This is nothing less than treason," Nadda said. First Published: June 07, 2025, 17:38 IST

Over 88% Trust PM Modi On National Security Matters After Op Sindoor: News18 Survey

Last Updated: The survey was carried out in the backdrop of heightened India-Pakistan tensions following Operation Sindoor — a retaliatory strike launched in response to the Pahalgam attack Amid ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, a News18 survey revealed that over 88 per cent of respondents across the country trust Prime Minister Narendra Modi on issues related to national interest. The survey was carried out in the backdrop of heightened India-Pakistan tensions following Operation Sindoor — a retaliatory strike launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, targeting terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. According to the News18 survey, 88.06 per cent of a total of 14,671 respondents have faith in PM Modi when it comes to issues pertaining to national interest. Further, 11.94 per cent of respondents have no trust at all, the survey revealed. In the survey, a question — 'Do you believe that PM Modi has consistently taken a strong stand when it comes to national security?" — was asked to the respondents. The poll was conducted over two days, on May 6 and 7, 2025, using advanced polling software and was made accessible through News18 's websites, social media platforms, and television channels via QR codes. PM Modi On Op Sindoor Last week, PM Modi issued a stern warning to Pakistan, asserting that India will respond decisively to any act of terrorism on its soil. Addressing the public gathering in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, the Prime Minister reiterated that Operation Sindoor, under which India struck terror dens deep inside Pakistan, is not over yet. 'We entered terrorist camps and destroyed them in Pakistan. Our Armed Forces showed such courage that the Pakistan Army ended up begging to stop the war," said PM Modi. 'I want to tell enemies who begged us to stop during Operation Sindoor. Don't be fooled, Operation Sindoor is not over yet," he added. PM Modi said that India will give a befitting reply to every terrorist attack, with the timing, method, and terms of the response to be decided by the Armed Forces. On April 22, terrorists opened fire on civilians in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, killing 26 people in one of the deadliest attacks since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. India's Tough Stance Against Terror On September 18, 2016, four heavily armed terrorists attacked an Indian Army base in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir, killing 19 soldiers. In response, India launched a surgical strike on September 28-29, targeting multiple terror launches across the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The Indian Army's elite para commandos executed the operation with precision, inflicting significant casualties on the terrorists and destroying their infrastructure. The surgical strikes marked a shift in India's counter-terrorism policy, signalling a more assertive stance. The Indian government emphasized that the operation was a pre-emptive move to prevent further infiltration. After three years, on February 14, 2019, a suicide bombing orchestrated by Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed killed 40 CRPF personnel in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, triggering nationwide outrage. In retaliation, the Indian Air Force carried out an airstrike on February 26, targeting a major Jaish-e-Mohammed training camp in Balakot, deep inside Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The Balakot airstrike was the first time since the 1971 war that Indian fighter jets crossed the LoC to hit targets inside Pakistan. India termed the operation a non-military pre-emptive strike, claiming it eliminated a large number of terrorists. First Published: June 07, 2025, 17:43 IST

Trump again claims credit for India-Pakistan ceasefire, says prevented..., warned New Delhi, Islamabad of...

Donald Trump has reiterated his claim of mediating the India-Pakistan ceasefire. (File) India-Pakistan ceasefire: US President Donald Trump has once claimed credit for mediating last month's India-Pakistan ceasefire, asserting that his purported intervention helped prevent a potential nuclear war between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. Talking the reporters aboard the Air Force One, Trump claimed he used trade as a weapon to force New Delhi and Islamabad to 'immediately stop the fighting'. 'You know, I did something that people don't talk about, and I also don't talk about it much, but we solved a big problem with India and Pakistan, a potential nuclear problem. I talked to Pakistan, I talked to India, their leaders are very good, but they were fighting among themselves and they could have had a nuclear war,' Trump said. 'Threatened them with trade' The US President said he warned India and Pakistan that the US would stop trade with both countries if the fighting continued. 'Both are nuclear powers, strong nuclear countries and I talked about trade and said if you guys are going to drop bombs on each other, then we will not trade. After which both stopped fighting and I immediately stopped that war. Otherwise this war was going too far. And hopefully it did not turn into a nuclear war, but it could have turned into a nuclear war. In fact it could have turned into a nuclear war in the next round but we stopped it and I want to appreciate the leaders of both countries,' he said. Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that he brokered a ceasefire deal between India and Pakistan on May 10 last month after tensions between the two neighbors escalated post India's Operation Sindoor. While Pakistan has thanked Trump for playing a major role in the ceasefire, India has vehemently refuted the US' President's claims, and reiterated the agreement for cessation of hostilities was bilateral in nature. Russia backs Trump's claim Trump's claim has also been backed by Russia. Yuri Ushakov, assistant to Russian President Vladimir Putin, supported Trump's claim and said that his direct intervention helped end the India-Pakistan conflict. Ushakov said this was also revealed in a phone conversation between Trump and Putin in which 'the Middle East was discussed, as well as the armed conflict between India and Pakistan , which has been stopped with the personal participation of President Trump.' India rejects Trump mediation claim Meanwhile, the US President's claim has triggered a sharp diplomatic reaction in India. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who recently led an all-party delegation to the US, said he raised Trump's mediation claims directly with US Vice President JD Vance during his talks. 'The meeting with Vice President Vance was very good and very clear. I think we made our position clear on this question of mediation and Vice President Vance understood our point of view completely,' Tharoor said.
