Independence Day preparation: Mock drill across Delhi on Thursday, Friday

In preparation for Independence Day celebrations next month, the Delhi Police will hold a two-day mock drill across 10 locations in the national capital on Thursday and Friday. 'A number of stakeholder agencies, including the Delhi Police, will be participating and validating their preparedness and response. The general public is advised to extend cooperation and avoid falling for rumours and misunderstandings,' a Delhi Police officer said on Thursday. The officer added that the Special Cell of the Delhi Police will head the mock drill, and it will also coordinate with different agencies, such as the Delhi Fire Services, resident welfare associations, civil defence volunteers, the traffic police, and the health department, among others, to carry out the drill. 'The mock drills will test the agencies' preparedness through various scenarios and will help sharpen their response times,' he further said. So far, metro stations, government hospitals, shopping centres, college campuses, and the airport have been earmarked for conducting the drills. The mock drill is taking place two months after similar drills were carried out in 55 locations in Delhi following the Pahalgam terror attack. In May, the drills simulated multiple hostile scenarios – incoming air raids with siren activation and blackout procedures, urban fire emergencies, search and rescue operations, casualty evacuation, temporary hospital setups, and evacuation of civilians to demilitarised zones/bunkers. Last year, the Delhi Police amped up security considerably in the Red Fort area in the run-up to Independence Day. They mapped out strategic areas for snipers and SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) commandos, and installed 700 AI-based facial recognition CCTV cameras in central and New Delhi. As part of the security arrangements last year, the Delhi Police also had to keep a close eye on the wind direction on August 15 and keep 'kite-catchers' on reserve to stop loose kites from flying down to the Red Fort.

Mock drills in Delhi on Thursday, Friday to assess emergency preparedness

Security agencies, including the Delhi Police, will conduct mock terror attack drills across more than 10 locations in the national capital on Thursday and Friday, officials said, as quoted by PTI. The two-day exercise is designed to test emergency response systems and evaluate coordination between multiple agencies in the event of an attack or terrorist strike. According to an official, the purpose of the drill is 'to validate the preparedness and coordination of various stakeholders'. Members of the public have been advised to stay calm, avoid panic, and not to believe or spread any rumours during the exercise. Authorities have also urged citizens to cooperate fully as drills are carried out. The drills will be monitored to assess operational effectiveness and identify areas that require improvement. It follows similar nationwide exercises held in May to evaluate preparedness for scenarios such as war, missile strikes, and aerial attacks. They were organised hours before India's 'Operation Sindoor', which targeted nine terror-linked sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack. What to expect during the drill? Silent mobilisation of volunteers and civil defence wardens Simulated aerial threats involving enemy drones and aircraft Use of air raid sirens and emergency communication systems Implementation of blackout protocols near key infrastructure points Evacuation and mass casualty response exercises, including the movement of civilians from a mock drone strike area Blood donation drives to support emergency medical requirements Simulated military scenarios, such as the withdrawal and redeployment of Border Wing Home Guards in coordination with Indian defence forces What should you do during the drill?

Political Storm In Chhattisgarh Over Pak Nationals Amid Rohingya-Bangladeshi Deportation Drive

Raipur: The political discourse in Chhattisgarh has intensified following the recent deportation of illegal Bangladeshi nationals from the state. Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has trained his guns at the BJP-led government, demanding transparency and firm action against illegal Rohingya, Bangladeshi, and Pakistani nationals residing in the state. Mr Baghel, invoking a past central government order issued post the Pahalgam attack, has asked how many Pakistani citizens have been identified and deported so far and accused the BJP of using the issue of infiltrators only as an election-time rhetoric. "After Operation Sindoor, the Government of India had ordered the identification and deportation of Pakistani nationals. The BJP, during elections, promised to send back all Rohingya, Bangladeshis and Pakistanis. It's been two years now, and not a single one has been deported. Their silence is proof of their inaction," Mr Baghel said, questioning the so-called efficiency of the 'double-engine' government in Chhattisgarh. Responding to the allegations, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma hit back, stating that Mr Baghel should raise the issue within the Assembly if he truly seeks answers. "He was absent yesterday when the PM Awaas Yojna issue was to be discussed. He should raise these concerns in the House, not outside. We have full details about legal Pakistani nationals. As for the illegal ones, investigations are underway," Mr Sharma said. Sources indicate that around 2,000 Pakistani citizens are in India on valid short-and-long-term visas, with over 95 per cent of them being Hindus. Some of them have even applied for Indian citizenship. Post the Pahalgam terror attack, 11 citizens voluntarily returned to Pakistan. While the Congress is pressing for figures and demanding deportation of all Pakistani nationals still in Chhattisgarh, the BJP appears to be relying on procedural processes and urging for discussions within legislative channels. With both sides trading barbs, the issue of illegal foreign nationals has turned into a fresh flashpoint in the state's political arena - one that seems poised to escalate further in the coming days.
