I let AI choose my summer glow up, a change made such a difference but another made me look like an 80s rollerskater

IT SEEMS we've all gotten used to asking AI to help us out - from getting the time from Siri, planning a holiday, and even giving us a makeover.
And for me, it was time to see how AI could help me look my best for summer.

With my 30th around the corner and a handful of weddings to attend, I want to make sure I look my best.
But when you're stuck doing the same make-up routine day in and day out, it can be hard to decipher what looks work for you.
But now Chatgpt allows you to put a picture into their system and give you pointers, I decided to give it a go.
I sent an image of myself with my usual hair and make-up and asked it to give me some tips for a summer glow up.
It took a few goes to get the algorithm to understand what I wanted, but after just a few minutes, it came up with the ultimate makeover list.
The AI system was happy to tell me what I had already nailed (sculpted brows) and what I wasn't doing so well with (dull skin, thank you).
Here's a full list of Chatgpt's recommendations
I decided to take on the advice fully and gave myself a total transformation, and here are the results.

Hair
The AI bot recommended I add some lighter and warmer tones to my hair, which is already pretty ginger and to add some loose waves.
I begrudgingly curled my hair before brushing it out for a softer look and I have to say, it did make my hair look fuller and suited my round face shape.
While I hate taking the time to curl my hair, this will be something I'll add to my routine for special occasions.

Skin
I felt personally attacked by its description of my dull skin that needed a bit more glow (I just got off a long-haul flight, okay?!), but couldn't agree more with the bot.
Instead of slapping some moisturiser on and being done with it, I took my time using a toner to help close my pores and brighten the skin before going in with a face moisturiser and an eye cream.
Not only did my skin feel so much more hydrated, but it also made applying my makeup much easier and gave it a better finish without clinging to dry skin.

Top beauty trends for 2025
Hayley Walker, Beauty Expert at Justmylook spoke exclusively to Fabulous about the big beauty trends for 2025.
Haircare
Hair gloss treatments are a must-have as beauty enthusiasts love the salon-quality shine and enhanced colour delivered by the trending treatment.
Hair glosses are multifunctional, as they nourish the hair while offering a vibrant, healthy-looking finish, combining 2025's core trends. This treatment is perfect for those seeking an affordable, at-home glow-up.
2025 will focus on skin repairing and texture-enhancing treatments.
Skincare
Rejuran treatment, a celebrity-endorsed procedure, will see a rise in demand this year as many seek to enhance their skin's appearance. The procedure entails injecting polynucleotides derived from salmon DNA to enhance skin texture and elasticity. 'Rejuvenation is expected to dominate 2025 skincare trends as many seek to achieve a flawless, youthful complexion.
Skincare will also include back-to-basic products for a simplified routine.
Ginseng cleansing oil and panthenol cream are among the trending products for 2025. The cleansing oil is excellent for dissolving make-up and impurities without clogging pores and is enriched with nourishing properties to leave the skin feeling and looking refreshed and radiant.
Make-up
Make-up trends will follow suit to achieve youthful and radiant looks. Under-eye brighteners will be sought-after products for delivering coverage while enhancing natural radiance. This beauty tool will complement natural beauty while improving and brightening dull skin.
Make-up looks will be bigger and bolder in 2025 with cluster lashes expected to surge this year. These lashes bring the glam to glamorous looks as they deliver dramatic volume to enhance everyday or special occasion looks.
Peel-off lip stains circulated the beauty industry in 2024 and are expected to dominate in 2025. The growing popularity of this product is due to its ability to provide long-lasting, transfer-proof colour to lips, enhancing a natural aesthetic. Additionally, cherry-coded aesthetics are expected to be everywhere this year as the deep, rich hue can be achieved using peel-off lip stains or bold lip looks for a dramatic effect.
Nails
2025 will be another year of countless, show-stopping nail trends. Goddess Nails and Aura Nails deserve an honourable mention as these designs channel an ethereal, celestial aesthetic for bold, self-expressing nails.
Make-up
Now, I am no expert when it comes to make-up, so this was the step I was most concerned about.
I rarely experiment with my make-up routine and often feel like I look like a kid who got into their mum's makeup bag when I do try, but I was willing to give it a go.
It suggested a more dewy base than what I'm used to, so I went in with a simple tinted moisturiser and light-weight concealer around the eyes and to cover any blemishes.
Instead of using powder all over the face, I concentrated it on my T-zone and under my eyes to keep a dewy finish to the skin.
Once the base was practically done, I went in with a cream blusher in a rosey colour as instructed as well as a little highlighter along the cheekbones, cupid brow and the arch of my eyebrows.
I have to say, looking in the mirror, the blush and highlighter seemed to make a massive difference, and gave my cheekbones a little more definition to make my face look less puffy.
It also suggested I add some bronze eyeshadow to the eyes and add a winged liner.
While I usually add a small amount of eyeliner, I tend to skip eyeshadow out of laziness but found it made my eyes more of a focal point without looking too heavy.
Last but not least, it was time for lippy, a step I notoriously skip as I hate the feel of it.
They recommend a glossy coral/pink hue that I wasn't a fan of.
I already know coral isn't my shade so I opted for a light, slightly warm pink and was still unimpressed with its recommendation.
The bright colour was too much of a contrast for me, and the gloss only made it more apparent leaving me looking like an 80s rollerskater.
Ditch or Keep? Keep (minus the lipstick colour)
Accessories
Last but not least were accessories, something I tend to keep to a minimum.
Fortunately, Chat GPT had correctly guessed my choice of metal (gold), so I chucked in a pair of small gold hoops to finish the look.
Ditch or Keep? Keep
Final Verdict
I'm actually rather impressed with the glow-up Chatgpt made for me, the hair added a little extra to my look while the dewy skin was perfect for summer.
The addition of highlighter gave my face some much-needed definition and the bronze shadow was easy to apply and accentuated the colour of my eyes.
While I will skip the lippy recommendation and go for a more rosy hue, the overall makeup was a nice step up to my usual routine without looking too dramatic - perfect for summer.

Photo of Elle Macpherson confirms long-standing rumour about the model

A recent photo of Elle Macpherson has confirmed a long-standing rumour about the model's hair. The 61-year-old posted a series of holiday snaps to Instagram on Tuesday and one image appears to confirm that Elle wears hair extensions to add volume to her locks. The photo shows Elle walking through a European city in a brown shirt and matching skirt. She had her long blonde locks tied into a messy bun but as she looked down, one of her hair extension bonds was visible. The clip-in extension was noticeable on the top of her head as she pulled her locks back. Hollywood stars and models often wear wigs and hair extensions to achieve a more youthful appearance as hair thins and loses volume with age. Elle is renowned for her radiant, luscious locks and youthful complexion. She previously revealed how she protects her hair when she's not working with the best in the beauty business. From ditching the hot tools to protecting her locks from the harsh sun, Elle shared her top five tips for optimal health hair on her Get The Gloss column. She said she is a big believer that eating well and having a healthy gut plays a crucial role in keeping hair thick and luscious. 'The gut plays a crucial role in nutrient absorption,' she said. 'The combination of botanical herbs, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and probiotics that feature in The Super Elixir™ and The Hair Elixir [from WelleCo] will keep your gut microbiome, and in turn your hair, healthy.' Elle also explained it's best to put the hot tools down and keep hair natural as much as possible. Elle also said it's important to protect hair from the sun and believes this is key to keeping her hair silky and healthy. When she is out in the sun and the sea, she uses hydrating and protecting masks. In colder climates, the supermodel wears her hair in braids with a leave-in mask to ensure UV protection and hydration. And one of Elle's biggest tips for healthier hair is a well-looked-after scalp. She likes to give herself a gentle scalp massage with a natural oil like coconut, almond, or jojoba to improve blood circulation and stimulate hair growth.

Asia shares slip, dollar steadies ahead of Jackson Hole

SINGAPORE, Aug 20 (Reuters) - Shares in Asia fell on Wednesday, weighed down by a tech-led selloff on Wall Street, while the dollar gained some ground ahead of a key meeting of central bankers later in the week. Oil prices inched higher after falling in the previous session, as traders bet that talks over a possible agreement to end the war in Ukraine could ease sanctions on Russian crude oil, boosting global supply. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan (.MIAPJ0000PUS), opens new tab fell 0.47%, as did stock futures in Europe and the U.S.. EUROSTOXX 50 futures slid 0.55%, while DAX futures lost 0.5% and FTSE futures eased 0.14%. S&P 500 futures dipped 0.2% and Nasdaq futures lost 0.34%, extending its fall from the cash session overnight. "The S&P 500 and Nasdaq slumped overnight as investors ditched high-flying tech stocks with their lofty valuations," said Tony Sycamore, a market analyst at IG. Adding to headwinds for the sector, news that Nvidia (NVDA.O), opens new tab and AMD (AMD.O), opens new tab have agreed to give the U.S. government 15% of the revenues from chip sales in China, as well as reports that the U.S. is considering taking a 10% stake in Intel, have stoked investor worries of the Trump administration's growing influence on tech companies. Sources also told Reuters that U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is looking into the federal government taking equity stakes in computer chip manufacturers that receive CHIPS Act funding to build factories in the country. "These developments signal that U.S. government is heading in a concerning and more interventionist direction," said Sycamore. Other bourses in Asia were similarly in the red on Wednesday, with Japan's Nikkei (.N225), opens new tab down 1.2%, while China's CSI300 blue-chip index (.CSI300), opens new tab fell 0.5%. Much of investors' attention at the start of the week was on a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and a group of European allies over the Russia-Ukraine war. While the talks concluded without much fanfare, Trump said the United States would help guarantee Ukraine's security in any deal to end Russia's war there. He later said on Tuesday that the United States might provide air support to Ukraine, while ruling out putting U.S. troops on the ground. "The U.S. is not categorically underwriting anything, any security for Ukraine, even if they're open to provide some, because we don't know the conditions under which they will. So there's quite a bit of risk left out there," said Vishnu Varathan, head of macro research for Asia ex-Japan at Mizuho. Oil prices recovered after a fall in the previous session, with Brent crude futures last up 0.46% at $66.09 a barrel. U.S. crude advanced 0.6% to $62.72 per barrel. All eyes are now on the Kansas City Federal Reserve's August 21-23 Jackson Hole symposium, where Fed Chair Jerome Powell is due to speak on the economic outlook and the central bank's policy framework on Friday. Focus will be on what Powell says about the near-term outlook for rates, with traders almost fully pricing in a rate cut next month. "Given the apparent tensions between U.S. CPI and PPI data, (it) does come across as... premature to declare one way or the other. And most importantly, given this kind of dilemma embedded within the data, it is hard to decipher whether the Fed would take or would emphasise the risks that start to mount on the job side of the equation or (the) need to sit firm," said Mizuho's Varathan. Ahead of the gathering, the dollar firmed slightly, pushing the euro down 0.13% to $1.1633, while sterling fell 0.16% to $1.3470. The New Zealand dollar eased 0.17% to $0.5885 ahead of a rate decision by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand due shortly on Wednesday, where a rate cut is expected. Elsewhere, spot gold fell 0.07% to $3,312.89 an ounce.

Yes, chinos are cooler than you think — here's how to wear them

Here's a sentence I never thought I would write. Chinos are cool. So cool that we can't even call them cool. Because the word cool isn't actually cool any more. I know. All of the above is confusing. Especially for someone like me, who has made avoiding chinos — not just the wearing of them myself, but any romantic involvement with a man wearing them — a plank of my very existence. That's right, while Richard Dawkins has busied himself over the decades taking down religion, my focus has been on disavowing a certain type of trouser. It's probably beige or khaki, probably cotton twill, probably worn with a rugby shirt (crime number two), and absolutely not probably — 100 per cent definitely, in fact — an offence against style.
