The Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission was established by the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police and the Michigan Sheriffs' Association. Its goal is to promote high standards in policing through structured evaluations and peer reviews.
Out of 588 law enforcement agencies in Michigan, only 88 have achieved this accreditation.
The process included extensive internal assessments and external evaluations, demonstrating the department's commitment to continuous improvement. The accreditation reflects the sheriff's office's dedication to excellence, accountability and building trust within the community, according to the announcement.

Woman charged with murder and preventing a lawful burial
A WOMAN has been charged with murder and preventing a lawful burial after a man was found dead in Winton. On Saturday, August 9, police received a report raising concern for the welfare of a man at an address in Edgehill Road in the Winton area of Bournemouth. Officers attended and an 88-year-old local man was found dead at the address. 'This incident has been the subject of an extensive investigation and we have now consulted with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), who have authorised the charges of both murder and preventing a lawful burial. 'This means the case will now be the subject of active court proceedings and it is vital that the justice system is allowed to follow its course. Therefore, it is also important to stress that there should be no further commentary or sharing of information online or on social media that could potentially prejudice these court proceedings. 'There will continue to be an increased police presence in the area while we continue with our investigation. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has addressed reports that he had an explosive argument with Elon Musk in the West Wing earlier this year — and responded to rumors that he gave a black eye to the world's richest man. Bessent clashed with Musk in April over choices for next acting leader of the Internal Revenue Service, according to The Atlantic and subsequent media reports. The pair reportedly traded jabs and fired off expletives near the Oval Office. One witness described the fight as 'two billionaire, middle-aged men thinking it was WWE in the hall of the West Wing,' Axios reports. MAGA ally Stephen Bannon even told The Washington Post the pair exchanged blows. Musk rammed his shoulder into Bessent's rib cage 'like a rugby player,' and Bessent hit him back, Bannon recounted. Multiple people then intervened to break up the fight, the Post reported. Weeks later, Musk arrived at the White House with a black eye. Bessent, in a lengthy interview with Bloomberg published Monday, addressed what had happened with Musk but offered few details. He did, however, confirm he didn't give the SpaceX founder a black eye. 'I can 100 percent say I did not give him the black eye,' Bessent said. Musk told reporters he got the black eye from 'horsing around' with his five-year-old son, 'Lil X.' He offered the explanation at a May press conference that marked the end of his tenure as a special government employee leading the Department of Government Efficiency. 'I said go ahead and punch me in the face and he did,' the billionaire said. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed reports that the altercation turned physical in June, explaining she wouldn't have described it as a 'fistfight.' 'It was definitely a moved on from it,' she said. The April incident began after Musk and Bessent made their respective cases to Trump about who should be the new acting IRS commissioner, the Post reported. Trump ultimately sided with Bessent's choice. After the discussion, Musk and Bessent walked into a hallway outside the Oval Office and started exchanging insults, according to the Post. Bessent then brought up that Musk, as the leader of DOGE, had not been successful in carrying out his promise to cut $1 trillion in government spending. 'Scott said, 'You're a fraud. You're a total fraud,'' Bannon told the Post. The fight then turned physical as the pair approached the national security office, and after witnesses intervened, Musk was shuffled out of the West Wing, according to the Post. 'President Trump heard about it and said, 'This is too much,'' Bannon added. Bessent, a 62-year-old from South Carolina, was confirmed as Trump's treasury secretary in January after working for years as a top hedge fund manager. Bessent's father was the founder of a real estate firm, and his prominent family can trace its roots back to 17th century French Huguenots, Bloomberg reports. The treasury secretary previously addressed the clash in June, telling the Pod Force One podcast that he and Musk share a similar goal despite their differences. 'We have had disagreements, but we both want to get to the same place,' Bessent said. 'We both want to eliminate the waste, fraud and abuse in government.' 7-Year-Old Was Seriously Injured After Car Crash. His Family Credits Bystanders for Saving His Life

The crash occurred on Columbia Parkway around 4:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday, Aug. 6, according to NBC affiliate WLWT and CBS affiliate WKRC. Police reportedly said a 25-year-old woman was driving a Honda westbound on the roadway when she crossed the center line and hit a Volvo being driven by a 34-year-old woman. Cincinnati Fire and EMS shared a photo on X of the wreckage, which showed a white car flipped on its left side and a black car with its front end smashed in. A 7-year-old boy who was in the back of the 25-year-old woman's vehicle sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash, WLWT reported. Michael Askin told ABC affiliate WCPO that the boy is his son, who is also named Michael. Two bystanders pulled the boy out of the car and quickly began administering CPR, according to Askin. The child's injuries included three spinal fractures, a lacerated abdominal aorta and brain swelling. Michael was later transported to Cincinnati Children's Hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries, according to WCPO. He also had most of his small intestine removed and received a blood transfusion. With his son now in stable condition, the dad is thanking the two men who stepped in to save his child. "If it wasn't for you, my son, he wouldn't be here at all, fighting what he's fighting right now," he said. "So, thank you." Ashley Meucci — who organized a GoFundMe campaign to support her son, daughter-in-law and grandson — also thanked those who helped her loved ones survive. 'Thanks to the amazing souls who performed CPR on my grandson until EMS arrived because he was not breathing,' she wrote in the description of the online fundraiser, 'thanks to the EMS squad who intubated him and started breathing, and thanks to the amazing doctors and nurses at Children's Hospital who single-handedly resuscitated him, repaired his laceration, and continue to do their best for the best possible outcome for him!'
