Last month, the sisters gave brown leather jackets their stamp of approval, tapping into the perennial transitional staple with two different takes on the trend. This month, they are following suit by simultaneously sporting a big spring-summer trend with their own individual flair.
Over the Easter weekend, Sasha and Malia Obama were spotted enjoying the warm weather during a picnic with friends in Los Angeles, and the duo was once again photographed wearing two different takes on the same trend. This time, we are talking crop tops.
On the one hand, Malia rocked her crop top, a skin-tight, asymmetric tank top in a navy hue, paired with loose, crepe pants in a maroon shade. She added to the crop illusion trend by wearing a navy and tan bomber jacket that blended seamlessly with her top choice, and accessorized with black technical sneakers and her trusty green checkered sling bag.
Sasha Obama, on the other hand, tapped into the midriff-baring trend by opting for a slightly cropped zipped-up sweater worn over a classic white tee, giving just a glimpse of her underbelly. For a Y2K touch, she completed the look with a low-rise free-flowing navy maxi skirt, which she wore with a silver-buckled black belt.
Instead of sneakers like her sister, the youngest opted for a pair of classic brown leather Boston mules from German brand Birkenstock, which retail for $165 and seem to be a staple in her wardrobe. She has been spotted wearing the shoes, both with and without socks, on a couple of occasions while at USC. In keeping with the sartorial twinning, Malia also seems to be a fan of the silhouette, having been spotted with a suede version of the same shoe in the past.
Whether they step out together or separately, it's clear that the Obama girls have mastered the art of casual dressing, and we will be keeping our eyes peeled for their next 'fits.

Michelle Obama: Our daughters are pushing away from us

Michelle Obama has said her daughters are trying to 'push away' from her and her husband to forge their own paths separate from their famous parents. The former first lady said that her daughters Malia and Sasha tried to distance themselves from her and her husband, the former US president Barack Obama, particularly during their teenage years. 'Our daughters are 26 and 23, they are young adult women. But they definitely went through a period in their teen years… it was the 'push away,'' Mrs Obama said during an episode of Kate Hudson's Sibling Revelry podcast. Mrs Obama said her two children are continuing to attempt to chart their own course in order to differentiate themselves from their parents. 'They're still doing that, and you guys know this of children with parents who are known,' she said. Addressing her elder daughter's decision to drop her surname in her professional life, Mrs Obama said: 'It is very important for my kids to feel like they've earned what they are getting in the world, and they don't want people to assume that they don't work hard, that they're just naturally, just handed things. 'They're very sensitive to that - they want to be their own people,' she added. For Malia's debut film, the Heart, which premiered at last year's Sundance Film Festival, the 26-year-old writer and director went by her first and middle names, Malia Ann, in the director's credits. 'Malia, who started in film, I mean, her first project – she took off her last name, and we were like, they're still going to know it's you, Malia,' Mrs Obama said of the decision. 'But we respected the fact that she's trying to make her way.' She added that as their children have grown up, they have come to terms with the decisions she and her husband made as parents in the public eye. 'As they're older, I think they are embracing our parenting principles… They have a clearer understanding of why we did a lot of what we did,' she said. 'They understand us as full human beings now, in the same way that I think I discovered that about my parents when I went away to college.' Her comments echoed the former president, who recently joked on an episode of The Pivot podcast that their children were 'stubborn' and would 'go out of their way to not try to leverage' their famous family name. 'On the credits, it said Malia Ann. I was like, 'You do know they'll know who you are?'' Mr Obama said. 'And she's all like, 'You know what? I want them to watch it that first time and not in any way have that association.'' Mrs Obama has in recent months begun to speak more openly about the challenges of her time in the White House. She announced on Thursday that she will be releasing a new book, The Look, in November focusing on her most famous outfits and her efforts to 'reclaim' her story. 'During our family's time in the White House, the way I looked was constantly being dissected — what I wore, how my hair was styled,' she captioned the post on Instagram. 'For a while now, I've been wanting to reclaim more of that story, to share it in my own way.' Broaden your horizons with award-winning British journalism. Braun & NEIGHBORHOOD Reproduce Retro Clock Designs From the 1980s

Shinsuke Takizawa'sNEIGHBORHOODhas unveiled an inaugural collaboration with German electronics manufacturerBraun, featuring a limited-edition wall clock and an alarm clock, based on original designs from the 80s. The collection centers on reproductions of two models, updated with a custom dial cobranded with both brands' logos. The BC02 is based on the AB1 miniature alarm clock, born in 1987, and the BC06 wall clock is based on the ABW30 model from 1981, a piece featured inMoMA's permanent collection. With a 24-hour Arabic index in addition to the 12-hour notation, the two pieces draw inspiration from military watch designs. Each clock is offered in minimal black and white plastic variants, following the sensibilities of Braun's sleek design language. Founded in 1921 with roots in theBauhausdesign movement, Braun's legacy in electronics design spans more than 100 years, but some of its most beloved designs came fromDieter Ramsin the latter half of the 20th century. The clocks featured in the NEIGHBORHOOD collection are based on models from Rams' tenure at the company, beginning in 1955 until 1997. With releases like its 2024 reinterpretation ofColumbia's GP3 turntableand itsmini tape player/boomboxunveiled in April, the new partnership isn't NEIGHBROHOOD's first foray into electronics. Having shown an affinity for retro technology over the years, Shinsuke Takizawa continues to develop Neighborhood's scope with its latest collaboration. The Braun x NEIGHBORHOOD clock collection is set for release on June 7 at the official NEIGHBORHOOD webstore.
