Sevenoaks cinema ejects group from A Minecraft Movie screening

BBC News15-04-2025
A cinema in Kent has said it had to eject a group of people during a screening of A Minecraft Movie due to rowdy behaviour sparked by a TikTok trend. The film stars Jason Momoa and Jack Black and is based on a popular video game which was launched in 2011.There have been reports from cinemas across the country of viewers taking part in a TikTok trend of throwing popcorn, food and drinks, and shouting at certain moments during the film.Tony McEwen, deputy chief executive of the Stag Theatre in Sevenoaks, said: "Since the opening weekend, we've had a few incidents and it's mostly groups of young boys aged between 11 to 14.
"We ejected one group of seven young people who were being particularly rowdy."He added patrons thanked him and his staff for asking the group to leave. Sam from Tunbridge Wells, who went to watch A Minecraft Movie, told Radio Kent it was the "worst cinema experience of his life"."I just wanted to chill out to a funny film and it turned out to be a disaster," he said."The screening was full of teenage boys who talked through the entire film and they were daring each other to shout silly things."Sam added the teenagers would stand up, cheer and throw food whenever Jack Black's character, Steve, quoted anything which referenced a meme."I left the cinema with lettuce down me and they were really rude about female characters," he said.
'Visceral and legitimate'
Mr McEwen said there was a fine line between people immersing themselves in the full cinema experience tastefully and being disruptive to the point which "ruins" it for other viewers. He told Radio Kent about his personal experience of going to the cinema in his youth."I was a sci-fi fan. I remember going to see the Star Wars films and I and many others cheered when Yoda was involved in his first lightsaber duel," he said.Mr McEwen said it was a "visceral and legitimate reaction" because viewers had been long-time fans of the franchise and the reaction was emotional rather than sparked by a social media trend. He said the cinema had a similar experience back in 2022 when Minions: The Rise of Gru was screening. "There was a TikTok trend called Gentle Minions and young people dressed up in suits and were rowdy during the film," he said.

The pair weren't on the same series of the show, but certainly seem to have grown close after the recent series wrapped. Last month we revealed how Welsh Love Island stars Emily Moran, 24, and Ciaran Davies, 22, had been chatting to each other. Now, the Welsh Islanders have been sighted together, walking beside each other in town on a day out. They were spotted from behind, and eagled-eyed Love Island fans have noticed that Emily is wearing the same outfit that she was in a TikTok posted earlier that day. The brunette beauty could be seen in a black top and jeans while heading out with a black clutch bag - the same outfit she's spotted in while out with Ciaran. Just this week, eagle-eyed fans spotted a clue that the pair could be more than friends. They both posted a similar photo from the same bar in Cardiff - just one hour apart. The pair were both at Golf Fang in the city centre last night. Ciaran posted his picture - which features a bright pink Barbie style car - at around 9pm, and then Emily posted an almost identical picture at 10pm. 'Get them off my screen' rage Love Island fans as Megan and Conor's hideaway romp leaves devastated Emily in tears Discussing this, one fan wrote: "Definitely not a coincidence!" This one said: "I feel like this is a perfect pairing." A third said: "These two photos are such a giveaway!" While another added: "We know Ciaran loves his Welsh girls." Emily, who hails from Aberdare in Wales was dumped from the villa after Tommy Bradley brought back blonde bombshell Lucy from Casa Amor. While, Ciaran, who is also from Wales, was coupled up with Nicole Samuel in last year's series, with the pair parting ways a few months after the final. The Sun previously revealed that there was a spark between the pair, after they connected when Emily was brutally dumped from the villa. A source exclusively told us at the time: "Ciaran initially approached Emily when she left the show just to congratulate her and stuff on how she was and handled herself on the show towards the end, which got them to talking. "Both have been getting to know each other on a more romantic level and they're looking to see how things go." The source added how at the moment since coming out of the villa, Emily is "taking every opportunity she can" especially with brand deals. They noted that Ciaran "is absolutely fine" with her focusing on getting brand deals and making a name for herself "because that's what everyone does when they get out". The source continued: "Emily has no intention of moving back to Australia as of yet as she's focused on her work and recent brand deals here in the UK. "But maybe who's to say that something romantically might also sway her decision to stay in the UK. "Apparently she has something big on the horizon with some brand." 7 Fans noticed Emily posted a TikTok in the same outfit that day Credit: TikTok / emillymorann 7 Just this week, eagle-eyed fans spotted a clue that the pair could be more than friends when they posted the same photo Credit: instagram/@emilyxmorann 7 Emily and Tommy had a bumpy romance Credit: Shutterstock Editorial

But still wouldn't trade it for the world! She said: 'Because the cruise is running nearly every day of the year, we can't have any days off because obviously we have passengers, and who's going to look after the passengers if everyone's having days off.' However, workers aren't expected to be constantly on shift. Anaya admitted: 'Yes this does sound like a lot, and yes this sometimes does feel like a lot but even though we're working seven days a week, that doesn't necessarily mean you're going to be working all of the entire day.' She explained how in her department, she works in the morning until around midday. 'Then you might be on a shore excursion tour, because I'm the shore ex department, if you're not, you won't start work again until around five in the evening,' Anaya added. The middle of the day is left for cruise ship workers to do as they wish. Some may choose to relax on board the ship, explore the port, grab food or a coffee. Anaya went on to explain that an 'unwritten rule' exists between workers that they don't receive time off during their contract 'So yes, although that's not a full day off, you're still getting time off to actually enjoy the ports we're going to and enjoy the countries that we're visiting,' Anaya explained. 'What other job in the world can you just wake up and be in a different country.' She admitted that after a while of working on a cruise ship and not having full days off, 'you just get used to it after a bit'.
