King Charles just granted his favourite bath oil a royal warrant

Telegraph01-05-2025

You'd be forgiven for thinking that the unassumingly plain, green glass bottle of bath oil by the beauty brand Olverum is just another run-of-the-mill luxury ointment to glug into your evening bath. The £78 oil in question has this week, in fact, been granted a royal warrant by the King.
It turns out that you'll find the same herbaceous, soothing oil on the sides of the bathtubs of many in-the-know beauty editors. Even Trinny Woodall and Amanda Holden love it. Originally created in 1931 by a German pharmacologist and her winemaker husband, the Olverum Bath Oil was created in small-batches and mostly supplied across Europe through niche retailers and discovered through word of mouth.
Bath Oil, £78, Olverum
In the 1980s, a bottle of the oil fortuitously fell into the hands of the British owner of renowned perfumery Les Senteurs, Michael Hawksley. He had discovered the potent oil at the Mayfair barbers Truefitt & Hill, who were barbers by Royal Appointment to the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip.
Hawksley was so impressed with the blend that he secured the rights to distribute the oil across the UK, and, decades later, bought the brand in 2014. The formula remains largely the same as it did in the 1930s, a zingy blend of eucalyptus, lavender, lemon peel and rosemary.
It's reviving, comforting and works brilliantly to soothe tired, achy muscles. If you're in the market for a bath oil but would prefer something designed with a better night's sleep in mind, the blend of vetivert, chamomile and sandalwood in Aromatherapy Associates' Deep Relax Bath & Shower Oil is hard to beat.

A best-seller for a reason, pour a capful in a bath before you soak and it will work better than any soothing lavender pillow mist would. (If you're more of a shower person, you can apply some to your chest before stepping under warm water to benefit from the aromatherapy blend.)
Bath 'milks' are becoming more popular, too, which are used in the same way as bath oil but lighter (and often less expensive). The Perfect Night's Sleep Magnesium Bath Milk by Neom Organics, is an excellent option.

For the times when only a bubble bath will do, you can rely on Space NK's own brand Nordic Wild's Bubble Bath, which froths up nicely in warm water and doesn't leave the skin feeling too soapy or dehydrated afterwards.

‘This niche fragrance gets me more compliments than any other - and it's £25!'

Metro journalists select and curate the products that feature on our site. If you make a purchase via links on this page we will earn commission – learn more As a beauty journalist, I've tried more perfumes than I care to admit. My shelves are stacked with plenty of bottles from big-name designer scents to buzzy celeb launches and yet, this little-known niche perfume is the one I keep coming back to. But after years of spritzing and sniffing, I'd finally found a fragrance that stands out and funnily enough, almost no one's heard of it – which is, what I think, makes it so special. From Diem, a London-based fragrance house that's changed how we shop for scent by offering gender-neutral, sustainable scents in small batches and 10ml bottles, comes Love Tangle Eau de Parfum. This surprising fragrance is described by Diem as a scent for the wild at heart. It smells like fragrant honeysuckle and roses winding through overgrown countryside hedgerows, like blackcurrants ripening in the sun, and its warm, musky base really clings to your skin. It starts off bright and juicy, but dries down into something warmer and more grounded. It's the kind of scent that people will ask about – trust me. Featuring notes of cassis, peony, musk and sandalwood make Diem's Love Tangle Eau de Parfum a fruity, feminine scent that lingers on the skin for hours. It's a fresh, youthful scent but sophisticated at the same time. BUY NOW FOR £25 After spritzing it on pulse points and setting foot outside, someone actually stopped me in the street to ask what fragrance I was wearing and, if you're based in London, you'll know this to be a very rare event! If you're thinking that niche fragrance brands don't have a lot to offer in comparison to the likes of say, Dior or YSL, you'd be sadly mistaken. Diem is quietly gaining fans among fragrance lovers and beauty editors alike. As a British fragrance house, it's all about telling stories and conveying emotion through scent. Who hasn't had a memory evoked by a certain fragrance before? More Trending What's so great is that shoppers can purchase the brand's smaller 10ml bottles so you're never wasting product or tossing out a half-used, gone-off bottle. The brand's heart is in sustainability too. Ingredients are all sourced from ethical, environmentally-conscious suppliers, and they've cut back on excess packaging wherever possible. Scent is such a personal thing but, (maybe this is just me) I'm finding more often than not, we're all wearing the same ones. Baccarat Rouge 540, Santal 33, and Black Opium, are all gorgeous and smell amazing, but they just don't feel unique anymore. That's why I'm going to stick to my Diem Love Tangle Eau de Parfum vehemently, and continue to share my love for niche fragrance houses and their incredible scents. David Beckham to guest edit edition of Country Life Magazine

The former England captain and businessman will join the editorial team for the October 22 edition of the magazine with the aim of celebrating what the countryside means to him and his family. He follows in the footsteps of Royal Family members who previously joined the editor-in chief Mark Hedges at the helm, including the King, the Princess Royal and the Queen. Beckham said: 'I am honoured to have been invited to guest edit an edition of a magazine that I have always admired and read. 'I am really looking forward to working with the editorial team to produce an issue that will celebrate what the countryside and the great British landscape means to me and my family.' This comes as Beckham is to be awarded a knighthood in the King's Birthday Honours, according to reports by The Sun. The football star regularly documents his life in the countryside by posting pictures and videos on his Instagram including him harvesting vegetables, gardening and his flock of chickens. Mark Hedges, Country Life editor-in-chief, said: 'I know he has a deep love of the countryside, which has grown since he retired as a professional footballer, although he is, of course, still extremely busy as a businessman and an ambassador for a host of causes, such as Unicef and The King's Foundation, as well as being co-owner of Inter Miami CF in the US and Salford City Football Club in the UK. 'As someone who is passionate about the countryside, I'm excited to see what his special commemorative issue will bring.' The one-off edition aims to highlight how the countryside has played an important part in Beckham's life. It will feature his favourite view, his best-loved recipe and spotlight his rural champions, including the craftsmen and woman who helped shape his home in the Cotswolds. Beckham, who played for his country 115 times, is the only Englishman to score at three different World Cups and his career included the treble-winning campaign of 1998-99, when Manchester United won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. He earned the third highest number of England caps of all time for the men's team, and was captain on 59 occasions. The former winger married Spice Girl Victoria, also known as Posh Spice, in 1999.
