Trump issues chilling new warning ahead of Putin meeting — stakes have never been higher
Alaska summit
if his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin tank and no peace deal is struck to halt the Russia- Ukraine stalemate, Newsweek reported.
When did Trump claimed a possible walk-out
Talking to conservative media network Fox news—aboard the Air Force One on his way to Alaska—President Trump cast aspersions on his prolonged stay at the summit if a deal of his choice ain't brokered. A video clip now doing the rounds on X—shows the POTUS in conversation with Fox New's Bret Baier. "work out very well — and if it doesn't, I'm going to head back home real fast." Trump told Baier while referring to his meeting with Putin.
When Baier asked a follow up query, essentially asking the POTUS to confirm his intention to walk away, Trump replied, "I would walk, yeah." Further clearing the air on what hopes he has off the summit, Trump said that he is just here to see through a stoppage of the mass killings. "I want to see a ceasefire rapidly. I don't know if it's going to be today but I'm not going to be happy if it's not today. I'm in this to stop the killing," he said in another clip, posted from his own X account.

Russia launched 85 drones, one missile on Ukraine at night: Kyiv
'Russia launched 85 attack drones and a ballistic missile at Ukraine overnight,' Kyiv said on Saturday (August 16, 2025), hours after Russian leader Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump held their Alaska talks. The highly anticipated meeting in the remote U.S. state ended with no breakthrough in halting Russia's more than three-year-long Ukraine invasion. Ukraine's airforce said Moscow had "attacked with an Iskander-M ballistic missile and 85 Shahed-type" drones, while also attacking "frontline areas" in four regions. In its daily report, the airforce said the attacks took place "on the night of August 16" and starting in the evening of August 15 — when Mr. Putin and Mr. Trump held their negotiations. Kyiv said its air defences shot down 61 of the drones. The Trump-Putin summit ended with no ceasefire announcement, despite the West pressing the Kremlin for months to commit to a halt in fighting. Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky has not yet publicly reacted to the talks. Russia's invasion of Ukraine, launched by Putin in February 2022, has killed thousands.
