Texans plan to induct co-founder Janice McNair to team Ring of Honor in 2025
Texans co-founder and Senior Chair Janice S. McNair will be the fourth member inducted into the team's Ring of Honor, the team announced Saturday ahead of their open practice for the media. The induction will take place during halftime of Houston's Week 9 matchup against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Nov. 2.
'My parents brought football back to Houston more than 20 years ago and ever since, my mom has given so much to our city and our organization,' Texans Chair and CEO Cal McNair said in a statement. 'There is no one more deserving of being the next member of this illustrious group than mom. She continues to be our team's biggest fan, and I know how proud dad would be to see her name join his in the rafters of NRG Stadium. I can't wait to celebrate her induction into the Ring of Honor this season.'
McNair, who helped with the parameters of bringing a team back to Houston following the Oilers' departure, will join her late husband Robert C. McNair, Hall of Fame wide receiver Andre Johnson and three-time Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt in the Ring of Honor. Johnson was inducted as the inaugural member in 2017. McNair, the former Texans Co-Founder and Senior Chairman, was inducted in 2019 while Watt became the third member in 2023 following his retirement in 2022.
'I'm thrilled to join Bob, Andre and J.J. in the Ring of Honor,' Janice S. McNair said in a statement. 'It means so much to me to be inducted alongside three of my favorite Texans. I have cherished every gameday since 2002 and I'm so proud of our team. It will be such a blessing to celebrate this special occasion with our amazing fans in November. Go Texans!'
Since moving to Houston in 1960, the McNair family has been generous philanthropists, making education and medical research the cornerstones of their charitable giving. Both Bob and Janice have contributed more than a half billion dollars to charity over the last five decades, with contributions being made through The Robert and Janice McNair Foundation, the Houston Texans Foundation and The Robert and Janice McNair Educational Foundation in Forest City, N.C.
The Houston Texans Foundation was created in 2002 at the inception of the franchise. It was born out of Janice and Bob's strong desire to do great things for Houston, especially Houston's youth. Since the Texans Foundation's inception in 2002, more than $50 million has been raised to inspire hope in H-Town. The Texans Foundation leverages the power of football to strengthen our community, support youth development and break down barriers to fundamental resources.
The Texans open the regular season on the road at SoFi Stadium against the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 7.

Trade talks between Astros and Marlins for Sandy Alcantara heat up
The Houston Astros are believed to be pursuing multiple positions this MLB trade deadline to help bolster their lineup. They look like a strong World Series candidate as they lead the AL West with a 62-47 record. Reports have said that Houston is looking to add a left-handed bat for their right-handed-heavy lineup, as well as a starting pitcher, before Thursday's deadline. Teams are running out of time to make moves, and it's been reported that the Astros have reached out to the Miami Marlins for their former Cy Young Award-winning pitcher. Astros writer Michael Schwab took to X on Wednesday night, saying, "The Astros are in talks with Miami about trading for starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara, per people familiar with the matter. Nothing is imminent, but both sides are serious and interested." Alcantara, 29, has been seeing his name floated around in trade rumors for multiple months leading up to the trade deadline. The Marlins starter was the unanimous NL Cy Young Award winner in 2022 after finishing the season with a 14-9 record, 2.28 ERA, and 1.07 WHIP in 32 starts. The following year, Alcantara came down with a torn UCL and underwent Tommy John surgery. He missed the entire 2024 season and has struggled to find the same success. In 2025, Alcantara started 21 games for the Marlins, totaling a 6-9 record, 6.36 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and 81 strikeouts in 109 innings. If Houston can put together a deal to land Alcantara, they would also bring in his expensive contract, which has him getting paid $34.6 million through the 2026 season. His contract has a club option linked to it for the 2027 season.

USA TODAY Sports reported a day before the deadline that the Astros had interest in bringing Correa back from the Minnesota Twins with the team sitting in first place in the American League West but having lost third baseman Isaac Paredes and shortstop Jeremy Peña to injuries in recent weeks. It was Peña's presence that prompted Houston to let Correa walk as a free agent in 2021, when he led the AL with 7.3 WAR and boosted the Astros to the '21 World Series. Now, Correa says he will be moving to third base for the first time in his career, with Peña set to come off the injured list this weekend. After leaving Houston, Correa twice signed with Minnesota, the second time inking a six-year, $200 million deal after failing physicals with the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets. Now, he's back with the team that drafted him No. 1 overall in 2012 - and teammates with Peña, the man who replaced him and should be back shortly from a rehab assignment. He will come with some financial relief: The Twins are sending $33 million to the Astros to help offset the roughly $108 million left on Correa's contract through 2028.
