First Coast Crime Stoppers tip leads to 2 arrests in Breon Allen case

Yahoo02-04-2025

Community nonprofit First Coast Crime Stoppers says a tip to their organization lead to the arrests of two teenagers in the death of 7-year-old Breon Allen.
'It's huge,' says First Coast Crime Stoppers Executive Director Chase Robinson. 'It really speaks to the power of the community, and I think there is a need for the community to stand up and to really fight back against acts of violence like those that killed young Breon Allen.'
Allen was killed back in January in a drive-by shooting outside his home near Commonwealth Avenue and Almeda Street on Jacksonville's Westside. Allen's older cousin, Lafayette Mango Jr., was injured in the shooting. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says the shooting was 'gang-related' and Mango was the intended target.
Robinson says the person who submitted the tip will receive a reward of $25,000. 'The enhanced reward, going as high as it did up to $25,000, speaks to how members of the community want to take action, and one way they can do that is by donating those funds to our enhanced reward program to increase notoriety of these cases. To bring Crime Stoppers into the daily lives of those in our community and really just provide them a resource to get that information out and to do it safely, securely, and anonymously.'
To help maintain anonymity and pay out the reward, Robinson says Crime Stoppers will send the tipster will send a pick up code to give to a bank. 'We partner with multiple banks in the area, and all our tipsters have to do is go up to the bank, they go to the drive thru teller, they can drive their car, ride their bike, walk, whatever means that they have, they simply write that reward pick up code on a piece of paper, slip it in the drive thru tube, send it back to the bank teller and, because the bank tellers we work with are specifically trained in paying out Crime Stopper tips, they match the reward pick up code with the documentation we already sent them, to then put the already cash reward in an envelope, send it back down the tube and the tipster walks off.'

One teenager killed, one injured in shooting on Hampton Avenue

A 15-year-old was killed in a double shooting on Milwaukee's North Side on the evening of June 9, Milwaukee Police say. A 13-year old, the second victim, is being treated for non-fatal gunshot wounds at a hospital. Police are investigating the shooting, which occurred around 6:20 p.m. on West Hampton Avenue near North 45th Street, according to a statement from the Milwaukee Police Department. The scene is just a block away from the location of a June 6 shooting on Hampton Avenue near North 46th Street that killed one and injured three, including a 16-year-old. Although overall crime in Milwaukee decreased in the beginning of 2025, the city has seen a notable increase in homicides this year. Milwaukee Police said they are continuing to search for unknown suspects in the June 9 shooting. They ask anyone with information to contact the police department at (414) 935-7360 or, to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-TIPS or use the P3 Tips app. This story was updated to add a video. Couple wanted for questioning by NYPD in fatal Bronx stabbing

Cops want to question a man and a woman they believe have pivotal information about the fatal stabbing of a 39-year-old man outside a historic former Bronx NYPD stationhouse earlier this month, officials said Tuesday. Cops released surveillance footage of the couple in the hopes that someone recognizes them. They want to quiz the pair as they continue to look for the man who fatally stabbed Shamel Parnell in the neck and chest on Bathgate Ave. near E. Tremont Ave. about 12:20 a.m. on June 2. Police last week released a surveillance image of the suspected stabber, who fled the scene in a cab. Parnell got into an argument with his killer before being stabbed. Medics rushed him to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he died about 25 minutes later, officials said. The stabber fled in a dark-colored cab last seen heading west on E. 179th St., police said. Cops recovered a knife at the scene. The victim's mother, Sherri Parnell, 61, hadn't seen her son for more than a decade when he was killed. 'When the officers came yesterday, they showed me a picture and it was him,' she said after the slaying. 'I haven't seen him in some years, many years really. Approximately 12 years. But that's still my son. 'He stayed with me a little when I lived in another part of the Bronx but he'd always be going out, coming in,' she added. 'I didn't know what he was doing.' The building Parnell was stabbed in front of housed the NYPD's 48th Precinct for decades but is now home to a Head Start program. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 for its notable architecture. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.

Father of missing Bronx boy, 2, held at Rikers Island: sources

THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) — The 20-year-old father of a missing 2-year-old Bronx boy is being held at Rikers Island after allegedly telling the child's mother the boy is in the Bronx River, according to law enforcement sources. NYPD dive teams were searching for the boy in the river near the Bruckner Expressway Monday night, but didn't find him. They're expected to search the river again on Tuesday. The boy was last seen by his mom at 827 Hunts Point in the Bronx at around 10 p.m. on May 10, police said. The boy was wearing a white shirt and a diaper. The dad took the child, Montrell Williams, to see his paternal grandmother for Mother's Day in Hunts Point. The father then stormed out of the home with Montrell following an argument, sources said. He never returned the boy to his 17-year-old mother. They share custody of the child. The teen told police she gave Montrell to his dad on May 10, but she has not seen the boy since, sources said. He was supposed to bring him back on May 30. When she saw him without the boy, the dad allegedly told her he threw him in the river, sources said. The father did not tell police that. After refusing to speak with detectives, the father was taken to family court Monday in the Bronx for custodial interference. A judge remanded him to Rikers Island. Submit tips to police by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), visiting downloading the NYPD Crime Stoppers mobile app, or texting 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577. Spanish-speaking callers are asked to dial 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). Mira Wassef is a digital reporter who has covered news and sports in the NYC area for more than a decade.
