Woman reported missing in Taranaki found

Police say a woman who was reported missing earlier this week from Taranaki's Egmont Village has been found.
The person police identified only as Jan was reported missing after she was last seen walking north along State Highway 3 near the intersection of Thomason Road, between Egmont Village and New Plymouth, at around 11am on Tuesday.
Police on Friday morning said she was safe.

Offenders flee serious assault in Christchurch
Photo: 123RF Police are searching for the offenders who allegedly assaulted a person in Christchurch. Emergency services were called to the assault on Joy Street in the suburb of Shirley at 3.25pm after reports of an assault. A police spokesperson said a person reportedly received serious injuries and has been transported to hospital. "The alleged offenders fled the scene and police are currently responding," the spokesperson said. Gloriavale leader Howard Temple resigns as Overseeing Shepherd
Howard Temple Photo: The Press/Kai Schwoerer Gloriavale leader Howard Temple has resigned as Overseeing Shepherd after being convicted of sexual offending against girls and women at the West Coast Christian community. The 85-year-old has been replaced by Stephen Standfast. Temple pleaded guilty to 12 charges, including five of indecent assault, just days into a judge-alone trial in Greymouth last month. He is on bail ahead of his sentencing. Temple became Overseeing Shepherd in 2018 after the death of the community's founder Hopeful Christian.
