Netanyahu Says He Backs 'Greater Israel'
In the newly published interview he said he is on a 'historic and spiritual mission' and expressed strong attachment to the vision of a Greater Israel, which is a longtime reference to Israel encompasing parts of Jordan, Egypt and Syria – along with the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip.
It comes on the heels of some hardline Israeli officials and settler groups loudly proclaiming that soon Israeli forces will be in Damascus. This is all based on Biblical concepts of what God is said to have promised the Jews thousands of years ago.The interviewer had presented Netanyahu with an amulet featuring what he described as a 'map of the Promised Land' – with the image symbolically depicting the greatly expanded vision of Israel's future.
Netanyahu when asked if he feels a connection with this concept of a Greater Israel, responded 'Very much'. The interviewer himself is known to back radical settler ideologies which seek to take land by force from neighboring Arab communities.
Among the first regional governments to condemn the remarks has been Jordan.
Jordan's Foreign Ministry highlighed the 'Greater Israel' remarks, commenting that it constitutes 'a dangerous and provocative escalation, a threat to the sovereignty of states, and a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.'
The ministry further emphasized 'the need for the international community to act immediately to stop all provocative Israeli actions and statements that threaten the region's stability and international peace and security.'

Some war monitors fear that the Netanyahu government is in effect already trying to enact this – given that from the start of post-Assad Syria (last December), Israel's military quickly expanded the Golan occupation far beyond, into southern Syria.

Without doubt, Hezbollah has been immensely weakened since last year's assassination of longtime leader Hassan Nasrallah – and the killings of many other top and mid-level leaders. Hezbollah's abiding by the ceasefire with Israel is a reflection of this. However, the last year has seen sporadic airstrikes on southern Lebanon by Israel. The fall of Assad in Syria last December has also greatly weakened Hezbollah. Still, the group remains the single most well-armed and militarily powerful entity in the Lebanese state. It is actually stronger that the Lebanese Army. So if there is a big move to disarm Hezbollah, there's a likelihood that indeed the whole state would unravel – also at a moment the country has been experience economic collapse, and destruction due to recent Israeli bombings. The general view among regional analysts is that Hezbollah, representing the 'Shia axis', has ultimately lost at this point. This is also underscored in the fact that the Israeli army is now occupying large swathes of southern Syria – perhaps less than a dozen miles from the outskirts of Damascus.

Houthis Launch Another Failed Attack On Israel's Ben Gurion Airport
Yemen's Houthis are not letting up on their attacks on Israel or Israeli-linked shipping in the Red Sea, on Thursday once again launching a ballistic missile targeting Ben Gurion airport international airport in Tel Aviv. The Shia militant group's spokesman said it launched a 'Palestine 2 hypersonic ballistic missile' targeting the country's lone major international hub, the group's military spokesman Yahya Saree described. The Houthis say they are continuing to act in support of the Palestinians, despite having paused their attacks during a two-month Gaza ceasefire that ended in March. As the Gaza war resumed, so did Houthi acts of aggression. 'A missile launched from Yemen was intercepted by the' air force, Israel's army said on Telegram, and there have been no reports of casualties. According to Times of Israel citing military officials, Houthi drones also targeted the south connected with the same new attack wave: In a statement Tuesday, the Iran-backed group claimed to have launched six drones at Israel, targeting 'vital targets' in Haifa, the Negev Desert, Eilat and Beersheba. 'The operations successfully achieved their objectives, thanks to Allah,' the Houthis claimed. The IDF reported shooting down one drone off the coast of Eilat, which did not set off sirens in Israel's southernmost city because it posed no threat. The other five drones likely fell short before reaching the country's borders, as many Houthi projectiles have previously. The first inbound missiles had been detected shortly after 4am local time, setting off air sirens in various parts of Israel. Some local reports say that residents of central Israel on Thursday discovered fragments of an interceptor on or near train tracks between Ganot and Hahagana – which resulted in the railway being temporarily shut down. Israel's military launched major attacks on Yemen's Hodeidah port several weeks ago, but this and prior waves of major strikes have done little or nothing to deter Houthi resolve to inflict punishment on Israel for its military operations in Gaza, which as resulted in an immense civilian death toll. At this point over 60,000 Palestinians have been reported killed in the Gaza War, but the enclave's health authorities do no distinguished between armed militants and civilians in their casualty count.

Israeli Settlement Plans Will 'Bury' Idea Of Palestinian State, Minister Says
Israeli far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has said plans to build more than 3,000 homes in a controversial settlement project in the occupied West Bank will 'bury the idea of a Palestinian state'. The so-called E1 project between Jerusalem and the Maale Adumim settlement has been frozen for decades amid fierce opposition internationally. Building there would effectively cut off the West Bank from occupied East Jerusalem. Smotrich said it would thwart the idea of a Palestinian state 'because there is nothing to recognise and no one to recognise'. Settlements are considered illegal under international law, though Israel disputes this. They are one of the most contentious issues between Israel and the Palestinians. About 700,000 settlers live in approximately 160 settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, according to the Israeli anti-settlement group Peace Now. It is land Palestinians seek for a future independent state. 'After decades of international pressure and freezes, we are breaking conventions and connecting Maale Adumim to Jerusalem,' Smotrich said. 'This is Zionism at its best – building, settling and strengthening our sovereignty in the Land of Israel.' It follows declarations in recent days by a growing number of countries of their intention to recognise a Palestinian state in coming months, which Israel has denounced. Announcing the plan at a news conference with settler organisation Yesha Council Chairman Israel Ganz and Maale Adumim Mayor Guy Yifrach, Smotrich said the land had been given to the Jews by God. When asked by the BBC what message the plans sent to the likes of the UK and France, which plan to recognise a State of Palestine later this year, he said: 'It's not going to happen. There will be no state to recognise.'
