Teams 'laughed at the idea' of meeting Steelers' trade demands for George Pickens
Did Jerry Jones and his son Stephen Jones get bamboozled in the acquisition of George Pickens? The Dallas Cowboys have added to their wide receiver corps in a major way, grabbing the fourth-year wideout from Georgia in a post-draft trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dallas gave up their 2026 third-round pick, along with a Day 3 pick swap in 2027 (their fifth for the Steelers' sixth). In return, the club now has a bonafide field stretcher to command the defense's attention away from WR1 CeeDee Lamb.

But the price was steep for a player the Steelers clearly wanted to get rid of. In grading the trade, The Athletic's Jeff Howe mentioned that Pittsburgh made it abundantly clear during the draft that Pickens was available. Teams scoffed at the idea of meeting their asking price.
Word leaked during the draft that Pickens was available if anyone wanted him. Some teams polled by The Athletic at the time laughed at the idea of inviting Pickens into their locker room for any price, let alone a second-day draft pick. There wasn't a lot of interest in talking with the Steelers about a trade.
What isn't said, but extremely possible is that the Cowboys were included amongst the teams that dismissed the idea of giving the Steelers what they were asking for. Clearly they weren't among the group that had major hesitations about adding the mercurial star to their locker room, but they didn't give up this year's draft capital.
The return is higher than expected, but the Steelers had to wait a year to get it. Of course, the initial hope was to acquire a pick in last month's draft, but they would have had to take less compensation.

DK Metcalf Turning Heads During First Day of Steelers Practice
DK Metcalf Turning Heads During First Day of Steelers Practice originally appeared on Athlon Sports. One of the biggest moves the Pittsburgh Steelers made this offseason was trading for Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf and then signing him to a four-year, $132 million contract with $60 million guaranteed. Advertisement After six years with the Seahawks, accumulating 438 receptions, 6,324 yards and 48 touchdowns on 726 targets, there's hope he can come in and be a big boost to the team's offense in 2025. Of course, after they also signed quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a one-year, $13.6 million deal and traded wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, it's sure to be an interesting season. Now, though, it's time to get to work, and on Tuesday, the team posted a video of Metcalf at Pittsburgh's mandatory minicamp, which was also the first time he'd suited up for them after skipping OTAs (May 27 to June 5) The video has quickly caught the attention of many Steelers fans, who have been revealing both their high hopes for the upcoming season and their excitement to see the new wide receiver in action. Advertisement "They might actually win something this year," one said. "DK Metcalf is really a steeler. Who has it better than us?" Another said. "We're going to the Super Bowl," a third added. "Perfect throw perfect catch woooof LFG," a fourth said. 'DK's not a hands catcher,' they said. Interesting," a fifth continued. "WE ARE BACK LIKE WE BEVER BEEN BACK," another said. Full details of Aaron Rodgers' contract with Steelers revealed — including performance inventives
The details have emerged about Aaron Rodgers' contract with the Steelers, including the milestones that the 41-year-old quarterback has to hit in order to reach his performance-based incentives. Rodgers' contract is worth $13.65 million for the one year, with $10 million guaranteed, but his deal could reach as high as $19.5 million with the incentives. According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, Rodgers would have to play 70 percent of the Steelers' regular-season snaps in order to be eligible for any of his incentives. Getty Images The future Hall of Famer would receive an extra $500,000 if the Steelers qualified for the postseason, Breer said. A wild-card round victory in which he played 50 percent of the game or his team earned a first-round bye would mean a $600,000 bump for Rodgers. Advertisement If Rodgers leads the Steelers to a divisional round win and he is on the field for at least half the snaps, he would earn $750,000 more. The incentives hit the millions when it comes to leading the Steelers to victory later in the playoffs, with a win in the AFC championship game in which he plays half percent of the game would trigger a $1 million contract incentive. A Super Bowl win would trigger a $1.5 million incentive. Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (8) stretches during minicamp at their South Side facility. Philip G. Tuesday marked Rodgers' first day on the field with the Steelers after he signed his new deal with the team over the weekend, ending a long offseason saga over where the QB would end up playing — if at all – in 2025. Speaking with reporters after practice on Tuesday, he described the feeling as similar to 'the first day of school.' Advertisement 'I don't know a lot of guys' names,' Rodgers told reporters. 'They don't have names on the back of their jerseys yet. They don't have names on the meeting rooms. I literally walk out of the locker room lost. I have to grab somebody and say, 'Hey, where am I going?' 'But I'll get the feel of it. I'm excited about making this home.'

Myles Garrett hopes to add Aaron Rodgers to the ‘graveyard' of QBs he's sacked
BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Myles Garrett has sacked 31 quarterbacks during his eight years in the NFL, and Aaron Rodgers is not among them. The Browns' star pass rusher is hoping to add Rodgers to the list after the four-time MVP signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. Cleveland plays at Pittsburgh on Oct. 12 and hosts the Steelers on Dec. 28. 'I think it's a good opportunity to put him in the graveyard,' Garrett said with a smile after the Browns finished their first minicamp practice on Tuesday. Garrett has 13 sacks in 15 games against the Steelers. He took down Russell Wilson four times in two games last season. Garrett has decorated his front yard for Halloween since 2021 with tombstones or other ghoulish displays symbolizing every quarterback he has sacked. Last year's display was inspired by the 'Terminator' movie franchise and featured replicas of slain cyborgs wearing the jerseys of QBs taken down by Garrett. Garrett has faced Rodgers only once — a Christmas Day game in 2021 at Green Bay. He was held without a sack and the Browns lost 24-22. After signing a record four-year contract extension worth $204.8 million , Garrett knows more is expected of him on and off the field. Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz last year said he believes Garrett is going to have the best season of his career and quoted another popular franchise, 'Spider-Man,' saying: 'With great power comes great responsibility.' When he heard what Schwartz said, Garrett asked, 'So that would make him my Uncle Ben, right?' 'I mean, I look forward to having my best season for sure, and I think it's trending that way,' Garrett said. 'I like where we are as a defensive unit. It's really firing, really rolling, and I think it's really clicking as far as the scheme and the plays, especially early on. That's big.' The four-time All-Pro edge rusher requested a trade at the end of last season before agreeing to the extension, which made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in league history for a couple of weeks until Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase got an even more lucrative deal. Garrett was in Japan for part of the Browns' voluntary team activities, but he noted he made multiple trips to the team complex before this week's mandatory minicamp began. When Garrett asked for a trade, he said he didn't think the Browns were in a position to win, especially coming off a 3-14 season in which he had 14 sacks and became the first player since sacks became an official statistic in 1982 to have four straight seasons with at least 14. The roster remains a work in progress, but Garrett is determined to be a leader. 'If they don't get it, you make them get it. Like I said, being that leader, setting that standard and showing guys how it's done instead of expecting them to know it,' he said. 'Guys come from different places, come from college, and you got to push them in the right direction. You got to guide them. I know they'll be better. I know we will be better.' ___ AP NFL:
