Arizona Cardinals could re-sign 2 players if competition at their positions isn't great

Arizona Cardinals could re-sign 2 players if competition at their positions isn't great Will Hernandez and Kyzir White remain unsigned this offseason. The Arizona Cardinals appear to have completed the offseason moves they intend to make for the roster. They added many defensive players, improving the defensive front seven. They still have questions at a couple of positions currently, though. Right guard and inside linebacker appear to have wide-open competitions. But if no one stands out, the Cardinals could bring back a familiar faces. Who are the two unsigned free agents the Cardinals could bring back? OL Will Hernandez Hernandez is coming off a torn ACL so he might not be healthy yet, but if the Cardinals discover that Isaiah Adams, Royce Adams and others are not standing out enough to be the starter, you might see the Cardinals re-sign him close to training camp. And his return seems possible, as the Cardinals did not assign No. 76, his number for the last several seasons, to any other player. LB Zyzir White 'White remains unsigned. The Cardinals signed Akeem Davis-Gaither in free agency and drafted Cody Simon in the fourth round. Davis-Gaither has only started 11 games in his career and Simon is a Day 3 rookie. White's No. 7 now belongs to backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett but perhaps would be an option if neither Davis-Gaither nor Simon show enough to start. Patriots mailbag: Readers want to know more about the Tush Push, as well as players impressing at OTA practices

By any metric you want to use, the Eagles have a world-class offensive line that gets a consistent push, particularly in short-yardage situations. They also have a quarterback in Jalen Hurts who can execute it perfectly, never skips leg day (there's plenty of drive on his part), and is willing to take the punishment that comes with it. Advertisement It's worth noting, however, that while Philadelphia led the league with 22 conversions on third/fourth and 1 in 2024, the Eagles' 81 percent success rate was fourth among teams with at least 12 attempts: Jayden Daniels and the Commanders (12 for 12, 100 percent), Josh Allen and the Bills (17 of 18, 94 percent), and Bo Nix and the Broncos (12-for-14, 86 percent) all converted at a higher rate than the Eagles. Enter Email Sign Up What's the difference between a quarterback sneak, which Tom Brady was so good at, and the current conversation around the Tush Push? — Thomas Walter, Natick An important differentiation. Both take a physical offensive line, but what Brady did so well was tuck himself into the A-gap between the guard and center and lunge forward. With the Tush Push, tight ends and/or running backs line up behind the quarterback and give him a push once the ball is snapped to have a better chance at success. The Boston Globe/Globe Freelance Related : Is there an undrafted rookie that's surprised you during the OTAs? — Chuck Blend, via email We've only seen two of the OTA practices, but it's hard not to be impressed by wide receiver Efton Chism. It's early, the routes are mostly undefended, and players are in T-shirts and shorts, but he's done well with the reps he's been given. He's quick, attacks the ball, and hasn't looked overwhelmed. He also returned punts during special teams work. He needs to continue to ascend, but he's had a good start. He wasn't an undrafted free agent, but a Day 3 pick worth including in this conversation is safety Craig Woodson. The fourth-rounder out of Cal, while he's been moved around a bit, looks comfortable as a center fielder. It'll be interesting how Woodson will be deployed alongside Jaylinn Hawkins and Dell Pettus, but he's certainly made his case to be part of the rotation at training camp. Wide receiver Efton Chism has opened eyes in his early days as a Patriot. Danielle Parhizkaran/Globe Staff Christopher Price can be reached at

Could this Cowboys 7th-round rookie supplant recent 1st rounder?

The Dallas Cowboys didn't stick to the proverbial script when it came to their 2025 draft class. The team had clear needs entering the weekend, but instead of trying to find the best available player at those key positions, Dallas simply took the best available player, needs be ignored. The team didn't take a wide receiver at all, waited until the fifth round to select a running back and the seventh round to select a nose tackle. That NT was UCLA's Jay Toia, an interesting pick to say the least. The Cowboys desperately need a man in the middle to line up next to their newly re-signed star three-technique Osa Odighizuwa; someone capable of commanding a double team and still producing. The question is whether or not Toia will be that guy, at all, much less in his rookie season. Dallas didn't throw any darts at the wall in free agency, and continued their trend of not throwing resources out the spot over the last decade outside of 2023 first-round pick Mazi Smith. Toia will have a great chance to earn snaps as a rookie. Rundown Position: Defensive Tackle Age: 26 Height: 6-foot-2 Weight: 342 pounds Hometown: Inglewood, CA High School: Grace Brethren (Simi Valley, CA) College: UCLA (Highlight Video) Draft: 2025, Sixth-round pick No. 217 Acquired: 2025 Draft Contract: Four-year deal (2025), $4.35 million includes signing bonus of $153K 2025 Base Salary: $840,000 | Cap Hit $878k Profile Toia is the annual flyer on a Day 3 nose tackle the Cowboys have become accustomed to. The hope, every year, is that they discover the next Jay Ratliff. Can Toia be that guy? He certainly has some enticing traits as he does have atypical movement for someone over 340 pounds. For evidence of whether or not he's doing his job well, look at how impressive the Bruins' linebacker corps looks. They were often clean, and Toia seems to be a heavy contributing factor there. Dallas hasn't declared whether or not they'll retain Mazi Smith as their starting one-technique or try to use him in the role of backup three-technique. That will likely be the deciding factor in just how many snaps Toia could see this season, if he's able to latch onto the roster. Aside from those two, the cupboard is rather thin at NT with Justin Rogers and Denzel Daxon both being longshots of making the roster. By the time training camp ends, the Cowboys could perceivably have brought in a couple veterans to man the fort, but Toia will likely be in the team's plans in some capacity. Steelers receive bad news on potential Chris Olave trade — Saints remain stubborn

Steelers receive bad news on potential Chris Olave trade — Saints remain stubborn Sorry Steelers fans, trading for Chris Olave might be a long shot. According to a report from Steelers beat writer Nick Farabaugh of PennLive, the Saints rebuffed Pittsburgh's attempt to inquire about Olave's availability, as New Orleans views him as having a pivotal role on offense in 2025. Farabaugh also explained that the situation was merely a "due diligence call" from Pittsburgh, which happens quite frequently in the NFL. Even if New Orleans were willing to play ball, so to speak, Farabaugh and Saints beat writer Ross Jackson agreed that the trade compensation would resemble that of the DK Metcalf deal — a second-round pick and a Day 3 selection. Jackson argued that he doubts "Pittsburgh is looking to cough that up after the DK trade," while Farabaugh made an even more definitive statement on social media: "Saints ain't trading Olave." Should Steelers fans give up on the Olave pipedream — and if so, who, if any, will join the roster to help alleviate the absence of Pickens on offense?

Teams 'laughed at the idea' of meeting Steelers' trade demands for George Pickens

Teams 'laughed at the idea' of meeting Steelers' trade demands for George Pickens Did Jerry Jones and his son Stephen Jones get bamboozled in the acquisition of George Pickens? The Dallas Cowboys have added to their wide receiver corps in a major way, grabbing the fourth-year wideout from Georgia in a post-draft trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dallas gave up their 2026 third-round pick, along with a Day 3 pick swap in 2027 (their fifth for the Steelers' sixth). In return, the club now has a bonafide field stretcher to command the defense's attention away from WR1 CeeDee Lamb. Advertisement But the price was steep for a player the Steelers clearly wanted to get rid of. In grading the trade, The Athletic's Jeff Howe mentioned that Pittsburgh made it abundantly clear during the draft that Pickens was available. Teams scoffed at the idea of meeting their asking price. Word leaked during the draft that Pickens was available if anyone wanted him. Some teams polled by The Athletic at the time laughed at the idea of inviting Pickens into their locker room for any price, let alone a second-day draft pick. There wasn't a lot of interest in talking with the Steelers about a trade. What isn't said, but extremely possible is that the Cowboys were included amongst the teams that dismissed the idea of giving the Steelers what they were asking for. Clearly they weren't among the group that had major hesitations about adding the mercurial star to their locker room, but they didn't give up this year's draft capital. The return is higher than expected, but the Steelers had to wait a year to get it. Of course, the initial hope was to acquire a pick in last month's draft, but they would have had to take less compensation.
