Cops detain 20 illegal immigrants in Kelantan
Southeast Brigade GOF commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said that the first two raids were conducted in Machang by the 8th Battalion on Wednesday, where they detained 11 illegal immigrants from Pakistan, including two Pakistani men believed to be the leaders.
He added that in the first raid, conducted on the Machang-Kuala Krai Bypass Highway at 9.30pm, they detained a vehicle carrying six Pakistani men.
"The driver possessed a valid passport, but the other five had expired passports and no valid entry stamp.
"About 40 minutes later, we detained five Pakistani men, including the driver with an expired passport, while the four passengers had no valid entry stamp," he said in a statement on Friday.
Nik Roshan Azhan said both drivers, aged 31 and 32, were detained under Section 26J of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act (ATIPSOM) 2007 while all 11 passengers were held under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1059/63.
In the third raid at 6.45am on Thursday, the GOF detained nine migrants in a forest near Kampung Kubang Pak Hitam, Pasir Mas.
He said the nine Myanmar nationals - seven men and two women - did not have any valid identification documents, and were taken to the Pasir Mas Police Headquarters for investigation under the same acts. - Bernama

China national fined RM25,000 for harbouring illegals

Kota Kinabalu: A 32-year-old China national was fined a total of RM25,000 by the Sessions Court here for harbouring five illegal immigrants at premises under his control. Li Hao pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain, who imposed a RM5,000 fine for each illegal immigrant involved. In default of payment, Li will face six months' imprisonment per charge. Li was found to have allowed five Filipino nationals — two women and three men, aged between 18 and 48 — who lacked valid travel documents, to remain at the Liubaba Lease premises in Taman Emas, Jalan Penampang, around 9.10pm on July 10 this year. The offence falls under Section 55E(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and is punishable under Section 55E(2) of the same Act. The law provides for a fine between RM5,000 and RM30,000, or imprisonment of up to 12 months, or both, for each illegal immigrant found on the premises. In mitigation, Li appealed for leniency. However, Prosecuting Officer Mohd Sharifuddin Salim urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence to serve as a deterrent. In a separate case in the same court, four Filipino nationals were jailed four months each after pleading guilty to entering the State without valid travel documents. Nanette Sapnay Pili, Cherry Mae Sampung Bernardino, Junaida Omar, and Kc Marwuez Sanchez were arrested during an Immigration enforcement operation at an entertainment outlet in Tanjung Aru at 1.20am on Aug 3. The four failed to produce valid identification documents during the operation. The court ordered their sentences to run from the date of their arrest. Contractor fined for failing to appear as witness

Kota Kinabalu: A 44-year-old contractor was fined RM3,000 by the Sessions Court here for failing to appear as a witness at the Immigration Department office in Kudat. Liew Ket Vui pleaded guilty before Judge Hurman Hussain to the charge of failing to comply with a summons without reasonable excuse. The court ordered that he serve six months' jail in default of payment. Liew paid the fine. According to the facts of the case, Liew failed to present himself at the Kudat Immigration office at 9am on June 3 this year, as required in a summons issued to him in connection with an investigation. The offence falls under Section 40(2) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and is punishable under Section 57 of the same Act, which provides for a fine of up to RM10,000, or imprisonment of up to one year, or both, on conviction. Liew, who was unrepresented, pleaded for leniency. However, Prosecuting Officer Mohd Sharifuddin Salim urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence to serve as a lesson not only to the accused but also to the general public, emphasising the importance of complying with lawful instructions from enforcement authorities. The court heard that Liew had been summoned to provide a statement in relation to the arrest of several of his workers at a construction site. Zaid chides PMX for 'appearing paralysed' when the Chinese come under siege by Akmal
THE latest wave of anti-Chinese sentiment from UMNO Youth over the flag and other manufactured outrages should have been the moment Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim or PMX, stood firm and drew a line. Instead, he appears paralysed, as if forgetting that Chinese votes carried him into Putrajaya. One stark trait of our PM is his reluctance to step into national controversies. He cherry-picks his sound bites on safer ground or not at all. On this, he has been an utter disappointment. Equally baffling is the response of Chinese parties in government. They endure repeated insults and provocations from UMNO Youth with stoic silence, yet spring instantly into outrage at PAS' religious rhetoric. This selective sensitivity betrays a warped sense of priorities. If unity is truly the goal, then surely the poison of racial hostility deserves equal, if not greater, urgency. UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Salleh is, clearly, a member of the untouchable elite; no different from the Sabah politicians or the celebrity preachers Zamri Vinoth and Firdaus Wong. Fortunately, we have LFL's Zaid Malek as a lone voice of reason, filling the vacuum left by our PM's silence. On Thursday (Aug 14), a row of shops in Kepala Batas was forced to close early as Akmal led a 'flag inspection' rally targeting a hardware store where its owner, Feng Jin Zhen, was filmed holding the Malaysian flag upside down. Police cordoned off the area, while lawyers for Zaid attended to defend the owner from harassment. Akmal, dismissing Feng's explanation as accidental, branded the act 'traitorous' and urged supporters to join him in 'teaching' the shop owners how to hang the flag. Police are investigating under the Emblems and Names Act and related laws. Akmal gave his statement to police at the Dang Wangi IPD over last Thursday's Kepala Batas assembly. His lawyer said Akmal cooperated fully, answering about 80 questions. He is being investigated under the Sedition Act, the Penal Code (criminal intimidation), and the Communications and Multimedia Act.
