Liverpool players also carried flowers in tribute to Jota, who died in a car crash with his brother Andre Silva.
There will be a rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone and a minute's silence on Sunday at Liverpool's friendly at Preston North End.
Dad-of-three Jota, 28, and Silva, 25, died when the Lamborghini they were in burst into flames after a suspected tyre blowout.
He had married partner Cardoso just 11 days before the crash.
Police said Jota was driving when he crashed his rental acid green Lamborghini near Zamora, Spain, on July 3.
The brothers were en route to the Spanish port city of Santander to catch a ferry to the UK after the Portugal star was urged not to travel by plane following lung surgery.
They were laid to rest after a heartbreaking funeral attended by his family, friends and Liverpool teammates last Saturday.
Tributes poured in from around the world, with , Oasis and Cristiano Ronaldo among those who mourned the loss of the brothers.
Liverpool stars Virgil Van Dijk and Andy Robertson led mourners with two touching wreaths emblazoned with Diogo's number 20 and André's number 30.
Portugal's head coach Roberto Martinez spoke after the ceremony and described how the days since their tragic deaths had been 'really, really sad' but the funeral today showed 'we are a very large, close family'.
Martinez went on to say it was 'essential' for Portugal to show 'we are together,' adding the brothers' spirits will be 'with us forever'.
He said: 'So thank you very much for your messages and for your support and everything that we receive [from] all over the world.
'Today we are all one football family.'
Liverpool manager Arne Slot was there with his players - including Reds stars Joe Gomez, Darwin Nunez and Alexis Mac Allister.
Former teammates Jordan Henderson and James Milner were also in attendance.
Some of Jota's international teammates present at the ceremony were Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, Chelsea's Joao Felix and Manchester City 's Bernardo Silva.
A huge crowd of mourners gathered outside the church and showed support for the brothers' friends, family, coaches and teammates as they walked in procession.
The service was private but a live audio feed was played outside the church.
Addressing Jota's children, who were not at the service, as well as their mother and grandparents, the Gondomar priest was heard saying in the broadcast: "There are no words, but there are feelings.
"We also suffer a lot and we are with you emotionally."

Surgeon loses £14m snowmobile crash claim because of ‘s--- happens' text

Judge Andrew Ritchie dismissed the claim at London's High Court as he said that Mr Cannestra, an American from Florida, who was dubbed an 'adrenaline junkie' by Ms Mealor, had 'wanted more speed' and had caused the crash himself when he 'accidentally hit the gas instead of the brakes'. The judge also pointed out that the surgeon had sent a post-accident text to McLaren staff, saying: 'No worries … s--- happens … I asked... if I owe you guys a snowmobile, or any other costs. Please let me know. It was my error and my responsibility.' In another, he wrote: 'Thank you both so much for your help yesterday and thru my little self-destructive snowmobile behaviour. Please let me know anything I am responsible for.... transport.... a snowmobile..... etc. we had a great time and all is good!' Mr Cannestra insisted his post-accident messages did not amount to an admission of fault. Neil Block KC, for Mr Cannestra, had told London's High Court that both riders were 'absolute novices' and argued their guides should have done more to explain the detailed layout of their route through the forest. The surgeon crashed after a pause in the journey during which his guide had changed the drive mode so that the doctor's snowmobile could hit higher speeds. Lasting problems The impact resulted in a brain haemorrhage and severe leg injuries, causing lasting problems with 'word-finding, comprehension, memory and fatigue' and worsening his previous hand tremor. Mr Cannestra, who was earning around £1.8m per year, has had to give up brain surgery, although his lawyers say he 'continues to work to a limited extent.' Dismissing his claim, the judge said: 'He was following a guide round a snowy track through trees, but he lost control, drove off the track and hit a tree. He was injured. At first, he thought it was all his own fault, apologised and offered to pay for the smashed-up snow mobile. 'At the ambulance in the car park, he told [the guide] that he accidentally pressed the throttle in the middle of turn two and blamed his glove. 'At hospital, he told a medic he accidentally hit the gas instead of the brakes. He considered that he himself was the cause of the accident. He did not blame [the guide] for rushing him or disappearing. He said the guide was not dealing with a '17-year-old new car driver ' who had just passed their driving test, adding: 'He was guiding a mature, supercar and jet-ski aficionado, who had ridden confidently and wanted more speed.'

GB win team silver at Jumping European Championship

Great Britain won a silver medal in the team competition at the 2025 Jumping European Championships in Spain. It is the first time GB has featured on the podium at the event, which happens every two years, since they finished third in 2019. The four-rider team, made up of Ben Maher, Matthew Sampson, Donald Whitaker and Scott Brash, were in first place after Thursday's first round, with Germany and Belgium occupying the other podium positions. However, both GB and Germany picked up four time faults in round two while Belgium only collected one. Gold medallists Belgium finished with a final score of 5.61, with Britain in second place with a score of 7.96 and Germany in third with 8.19. Ireland (12.39) finished in fourth place. It is the second time Belgium have been crowned European champions, having previously won the event in Rotterdam in 2019. Great Britain have appeared on the podium 15 times since the team event was introduced in 1975, winning five golds, six silvers, and four bronze medals.

Arsenal accidentally confirm new signing after blunder reveals photo from welcome interview before official announcement

Arsenal appear to have accidentally confirmed the signing of Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera. As Mail Sport reported on Sunday, talks advanced last weekend and the 21-year old agreed personal terms with Arsenal. The Spaniard underwent a medical earlier this week ahead of joining the Gunners in £13million deal with added bonus payments. While the club has yet to officially announce the deal, fans were quick to spot an image briefly published on Arsenal's website showing Mosquera in training gear. The photo, which appears to have been mistakenly uploaded in place of an image of Noni Madueke, shows the defender during what looked to be a welcome interview at London Colney. Mosquera can play at both centre-back and right-back and will fill the gap in the squad left by the departure of Takehiro Tomiyasu, who mutually agreed to terminate his contract. The Spain Under-21 international has made 90 appearances for Valencia and was a regular last season, playing the full match in 37 of the club's 38 La Liga games. Meanwhile, Arsenal are finalising details with Sporting Lisbon for the transfer of Victor Gyokeres. Arteta's side have already signed Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, Christian Norgaard from Brentford and Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his squad following another runner's-up finish in the Premier League. Arsenal also confirmed the arrival of Madueke from Chelsea on Friday in a deal worth an initial £48million, rising to £52m. The 23-year-old will wear the number 20 shirt and is set to join up with his new teammates in early August, having been involved in Chelsea's Club World Cup campaign earlier this summer. Arsenal are also keen to add another attacking option with Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace high on their list of targets.
