
Al-Ain to host first Abu Dhabi Grappling Championship

This initiative is being held in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, and under the banner of Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro.
The championship will feature hundreds of male and female athletes from over 20 countries, including youth, amateurs, masters and professionals.
Saeed Al-Dhaheri, destination management director at the department, said: 'As Abu Dhabi grows in prominence as a hub for major global sporting events, combat sports have emerged as an increasingly important pillar of our sport and entertainment vision for the emirate.'
The event will join other top shows in the UAE including Abu Dhabi Showdown Week, UFC Fight Nights, and the Jiu-Jitsu World Championships, Al-Dhaheri added.
'We look forward to new audiences in Al-Ain Region and across Abu Dhabi being introduced to this exciting and increasingly popular sport.'
Tareq Al-Bahri, general manager of International Vision Sports Management, said: 'This event underscores the UAE's leadership in hosting elite combat sports, offering a platform for athletes worldwide to excel.
'With the support of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, we aim to deliver unparalleled competition and establish a lasting legacy for grappling in the region.'
As part of the AJP Tour, competitors of all nationalities can participate across age divisions, from under 14 to over 35 in the amateur and professional categories. Winners will earn 2,000 ranking points and substantial cash prizes.
The event's opening day will focus on professional bouts up to the semifinals, followed by youth and amateur competitions on the second day. The championship will conclude with third-place playoffs and finals.

Pakistan, Afghanistan, UAE to play T20I tri-series
KARACHI: Pakistan, Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates will participate in a tri-series of Twenty20 international matches to tune up for next month's Asia Cup followed by the World Cup next year. 'The tri-series will feature teams from Pakistan, Afghanistan and the UAE from 29 August to 7 September at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium,' the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Friday. The T20I tournament will serve as a launching pad for the teams to prepare for the Asian Cricket Council's T20 Asia Cup, scheduled to take place in the UAE from September 9 to 28, it added. India and Sri Lanka will co-host the Twenty20 World Cup in February-March next year. The opening match of the tri-series tournament will be played between Afghanistan and Pakistan on August 29. Each team will play the others twice, giving all sides at least four matches before the top two teams qualify for the final, scheduled on September 7. UAE hosts Pakistan, Afghanistan in T20I cricket tri-series in Sharjah
DUBAI: The UAE will host Pakistan and Afghanistan in a T20I tri-series at Sharjah Cricket Stadium from Friday, Aug. 29. The three teams will play each other twice in the six-match group stage. The top two teams will then compete in the final on Sunday, Sept. 7. Afghanistan will take on Pakistan in the tournament's opener (Aug. 29). The UAE will play Pakistan on Saturday, Aug. 30, followed by Afghanistan's clash against the UAE on Monday, Sept. 1, and their second group-stage match against Pakistan the following day. Pakistan and the UAE's second group-stage match will be played on Thursday, Sept. 4, followed by the Afghanistan-UAE clash the following day. The tournament will provide the three teams with an ideal preparation opportunity prior to the eight-team ACC Asia Cup 2025, which is to be played in the UAE from Sept. 9. Match tickets and broadcast details for the T20I tri-series will be announced in the next few days. DP World International League T20 player auction for 4th season to be held in September
DUBAI: The DP World International League T20 Player Auction for season four will be held on Sept. 30 in Dubai, it was announced. For the latest updates, follow us @ArabNewsSport The six tournament teams will each get the opportunity to add 13 players each (a total of 78 players) to their season four squads at the auction. The last date for registration is Sept. 10. The six franchises will have a combined purse of $4.8 million to spend at the auction. Details about the available budgets for the teams (including the remaining budgets from their direct signing allotment which can be used in the auction), the auction order and the player list will be shared in due course. DP World ILT20 CEO David White said: 'We are delighted to confirm the DP World International League Season Four Player Auction date. The auction is a big milestone for the league as we continue to grow as a world-class T20 tournament. The auction will be a great opportunity for our franchises to add local and international firepower to their season four squads. 'For the UAE players, the ACC Asia Cup 2025 — Sept. 9-28 in the UAE — is a massive opportunity for making a global impression ahead of the auction. The players will have incredible exposure in the continental championship, where they will be pitted against some of the top-ranked T20 teams. 'We are also set to play the third edition of the DP World ILT20 Development Tournament from later this month which — alongside the Asia Cup — is another platform for the local players to impress ahead of the auction.' The DP World ILT20 auction is the second phase of squad selection for season four.
